The sudden demise of Goa's CM Manohar Parrikar shook the nation in grief and horror. The man was known for his nobility and great brains in running a state with his brilliance. Pramod Sawant has now been sworn as the 11th CM of Goa and while you might have heard the name somewhere, not many people know about him.

Pramod Sawant has never served as a cabinet minister in the state before, just like Manohar Parrikar. The 45-year-old minister holds a degree in Ayurvedic medicine from the Ganga Ayurvedic Medical College in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district. He is also a practicing Ayurvedic doctor in Goa. His political career began when he was elected to the State assembly in 2012 and 2017 from Sanquelim. He is one of the youngest leaders in the BJP and was reportedly a close ally of Manohar Parrikar and shared his vision. He owes his success and his journey to his mentor Manohar Parrikar only. “Whatever I am today is all due to Manohar Parrikar. It was he who brought me to politics. I became the Speaker and the CM today, due to him,” he said in his oath ceremony.

His wife is also in politics and his daughter is a school student. Let's hope Goa continues to thrive under the newfound leadership of Pramod Sawant and he continues to follow the legacy that Mr. Parrikar left behind.
