Foldable smartphones are a new thing as Samsung and Huawei have both developed smartphones for the near future. We even got to play with the Huawei Mate X and you can check out our hands-on experience here. Xiaomi, on the other hand, has a unique take on a foldable smartphone which is quite different from the other two companies.
We now get a closer look at the smartphone thanks to a 10-second video posted on Weibo. The video shows off the smartphone folding twice to turn a tablet into a smartphone that fits perfectly in the hand. The device folds both sides of the screen to turn it into a smartphone. We also get to see how navigation gestures work on the device as one can simply swipe-to-left to go back. The video also shows that the device currently does not have portrait mode when in tablet mode. It's probably because the software is still in the testing phase and may be ironed out for the final launch device.
The teaser suggests that Xiaomi is gearing up to launch the smartphone sometime in Q2 and is expected to be considerably cheaper than the Galaxy Fold and the Mate X. Reports suggest that the smartphone will cost somewhere around $1,000 which is significantly cheaper than Samsung and Huawei's price tag.
