Being the better half of a celebrity might have a lot of perks and incentives, but, from what we've seen in the past, it's definitely not easy. Association with a popular figure attracts constant media scrutiny and it's needless to say that the privacy goes out of the window. Similarly, dating a sportsperson or being married to one has its own disadvantages.
The prime example is Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli. The duo might be regarded as the 'power couple' of India, but every time Kohli fails on the field or Anushka's movie flops, the couple becomes the obvious target for social media trolls. And, it doesn't end there. Placed under the scanner, their every move is watched, judged and, thereon, scrutinised heavily.
Something similar came to the fore recently when a cricket fan targeted Mayanti Langer while using her hubby Stuart's on-field performance. Arguably one of the most prominent sports presenters in the country, Mayanti, apart from being married to Indian cricketer Stuart, has carved a niche of her own.
But, every time her husband does something (whether good or bad), she becomes the obvious target for the social media trolls. The Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) saw Stuart, who was batting for the first time this season, smashing three towering sixes and two fours during his unbeaten knock of 33 runs.April 16, 2019
While his blazing innings probably bolstered his chances of getting more games, it eventually wasn't enough from averting a 12-run defeat for Rajasthan at the PCA stadium in Mohali. Following Punjab's win, a cricket fan tried to troll Mayanti despite her husband's fairly decent performance by pointing out: "After today's inning of #stuartBinny @MayantiLanger_B first time change her DP from solo to with hubby".
Really Navneet? Considering you don't have my number you don't know what the picture actually is ð¤ but thanks a ton for digging out this one, it's a super pic ðð¼ https://t.co/kgmgm6qBhT— Mayanti Langer Binny (@MayantiLanger_B) April 16, 2019
Though many try to ignore such trolls in a bid to garner unwanted attention, Mayanti took this cricket fan to the task before giving a befitting reply. "Really Navneet? Considering you don't have my number you don't know what the picture actually is but thanks a ton for digging out this one, it's a super pic," she tweeted.April 16, 2019
Another fan tried to pull off something similar before asking: "@MayantiLanger_B where is Stuart? Not on the horizon anyway?". And, once again, Mayanti prevailed like a total boss, "Sorry that you seemed to have missed #KXIPvRR on @StarSportsIndia you can join us on #MarutiSuzukiCricketLive on SS 1/2/Hindi/HD and of course @hotstartweets Cheers," she tweeted.
On the other hand, a narrow win for Punjab has now propelled them to the fourth spot with 10 points to their name, while Rajasthan, owing to their sixth defeat this season, find themselves languishing at the seventh spot with just four points for their showing.
