Love Aaj Kal Releases On Valentines Day & People Are Saying We Wont Watch It Aaj Or Kal

After a long, drawn-out month of promotions, Imtiaz Aliâs Love Aaj Kal 2 hit screens rather fittingly on Valentineâs Day, as fans of leads Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan went into theatres with high hopes.

While the director has had a string of successes in the past with Rockstar, Tamasha and Highway, todayâs release has firmly divided moviegoers, with a rather sizable majority finding the film awkward - especially when it came to the script.

While you can check out our review here, we also took a look across social media to figure out the audience reaction to the movie - what we didnât expect was the sheer, endless barrage of memes that followed.

Plenty of Sacred Games memes were to be found:

A few even turned the film on itself, making memes out of Sara Ali Khanâs dialogues - a pity considering that a few fans did appreciate her performance in the film:

Meanwhile, dozens of mini-reviews flared up - with embarrassingly low opinions of the movie:

#LoveAajKal
Modern take on relationships and *** that goes brutally wrong . With its cringy and loathing screenplay that will test your patience every five mins , this #ImtiyazAli direction is utter garbage. @TheAaryanKartik shouldn't have signed this at this point of time

A coufused film about confused people with confused performances made by a confused director. Kehna Kya Chahte Ho? Arey bhai, koi yeh confusion solve karega? #LoveAajKal

Also... #LoveAajKal is easily the most wahiyat of all Imtiaz Ali films. And boss, I've seen Jab Harry Met Sejal.
So if you're voluntarily going out to watch Love Aaj Kal today, may the force, the patience, the sanity be with you.

A user even criticised the film for being misogynistic in how it wrote Khanâs character arc:

#LoveAajKal terribly fails for me coz it only pretends to like women. In fact, it makes you want to hate women more coz it's too much invested in punishing its woman protagonist to achieve perfectness in life, rather than letting her enjoy the messier parts of young womanhood

â Shrishti Negi (@shrishti_03) February 14, 2020

All this negativity must be trying for Ali, who returned to the directorâs chair following his work for Jab Harry Met Sejal - a universally panned project that led several fans to doubt Shah Rukh Khanâs ability at choosing film signings.

Imtiaz made a movie worse than Jhms to make SRK fans feel less bad. Unsung legend. #LoveAajKal

Not all was lost, however. The film does feature Randeep Hooda in the role of Raj - the actor was last seen in Baaghi 2. In a sea of negative comments, a fair number of users took a moment to appreciate his performance in the film, calling it âthe one good thing in Love Aaj Kal 2â.

Must Watch #LoveAajKal only for @RandeepHooda! He's exceptional in the movie.. Randeep Hooda pic.twitter.com/SN95s81P56

â Kush Rajput (@kushrajput111) February 14, 2020

@RandeepHooda as Raj definitely leaves a lasting impression even with lesser screen time. Up it #LoveAajKal Randeep Hooda pic.twitter.com/uKJuNiiASX

â Harsh Kumar (@harshkumar_999_) February 14, 2020

This user even suggested that Hooda should have played the filmâs lead role.

Watched #LoveAajKal! How good is Randeep Hooda in the film! His eyes and voice literally bore through you ⤠. How I wish he was the main lead of the film. pic.twitter.com/kZ0ltlctYL

Finally, thereâs the (rather lonely) camp of fans who stand by Imtiazâs film regardless of public opinion - believe it or not, a few people actually werenât bored out of their minds during the 2.5-hour spectacle.

What an amazing movie...just can't explain in wordsððð you will feel every emotion in this whole world while watching it...â¤â¤â¤ You will surely feel like loving someone trulyâ¤â¤â¤â¤ Everyone's acting is amazing⤠#LoveAajKal @TheAaryanKartik pic.twitter.com/D6WW5ECzdS

Exactly !!! For a #ImtiazAli you need to feel and not just understand â¤ï¸ #LoveAajKal @TheAaryanKartik https://t.co/3BMKI9c7UD

I donât know about you guys, but if I canât understand a film, I sure as hell wonât be feeling it.
