Vicky Kaushal Shines In Bhoot Which Is Spooky But Fails To Send Shivers Down The Spine

I have always been reluctant when it comes to watching horror movies because I am convinced that eventually, the eerie and spooky characters I see on the screen will soon greet me in my dreams. Some find it a thrilling experience though, while some, like me, find it completely daunting to see horror movies. Even while driving down to the theatre to watch Vicky Kaushalâs Bhoot Part 1 The Haunted Ship, I couldnât stop wondering if it would be scary enough or not.

And after watching the film, I can certainly say that it wonât send chills down your spine but would definitely spook you at times. For Bollywood, the ingredients of a horror movie are pretty simple - horrifying makeup for the âbhootâ and jump scares.

Inspired by a true story, the film starts with Sea-Bird, a huge ship docked at Mumbaiâs Juhu beach. I am really impressed with the fact that the director used a real event that happened a few years back and infused it with his imagination.

Vickyâs character Prithvi is struggling with the guilt that he couldnât save his wife portrayed by Bhumi Pednekar and his daughter who he lost in an accident after their raft lost its balance. In fact, Prithvi has frequent hallucinations of both his wife and daughter after they are dead.

Prithvi works as an officer in a shipping company and he has been assigned a task to offload Sea-Bird from the Juhu beach as thereâs no one to claim it and moreover, there are haunted tales associated with the ship.

When Prithvi is investigating the ship, he does come across paranormal activities. Even after realizing things are wrong with the ship, he decides to investigate it further. The more he gets to unfolding the mystery of the ship, the more he gets haunted by the spirit.

Well, I cannot tell you what happens next as itâs for you to find out. But, the very twist of the movie is interesting and unlike other Bollywood horror movies.

Vicky Kaushal has done a terrific job and it feels like the entire burden of the movieâs success has actually been left on his shoulders in which he doesnât disappoint. Kaushal has been constantly saying in his interviews that he is not a big fan of horror stories but hats off to him for pulling this off so well. He has also mentioned that he is hydrophobic, heâs also seen doing some underwater scenes and that reaffirms how much he is willing to experiment for his roles.

We also get to see Ashutosh Rana but itâs disheartening to see his talent getting wasted completely in the movie and only being reduced to someone who will chant mantras to stop the spirit from attaining what he or she wanted.

The story behind the haunted ship isnât really convincing but then again, Dharma Productions is trying the horror genre for the first time. I also liked the cinematography and CGI of the movie which was far better than most of our movies for that matter.

The movie does try to spook you on numerous occasions but doesnât really send chills down the spine. In a nutshell, Vicky Kaushal wonât disappoint you but donât expect the movie is going to haunt you for the whole night.
