In the wake of a somewhat divisive first look video of Robert Pattinsonâs avatar as the Caped Crusader, new photos have surfaced - revealing not just the suit in all its glory, but a two-wheeled piece of tech the comics have routinely referred to as âThe Batcycleâ.

The pictures offer an up-front view of the combat-ready suit, as well as a presumed stuntman riding the Batcycle, cape off. If anyone was wondering, itâs finally confirmed - this version of Batsuit has ears.

Hereâs a better look at the Batcycle. Itâs still unclear as to what model the stunt team have decided to base the Batcycle on, but with a distinctive boxer engine layout, itâs possible that the crew are using a BMW Motorrad platform - perhaps the Nine-T?

As for the suit, fans were in uproar over various design choices - it was originally slammed for appearing too rough-hewn and was called a âcosplayâ suit by critics. These new images shed a bit more light on the suitâs features - such as the distinctive forearm gauntlet designs, which seem to be covered with defensive bracers as well as the iconic âshark finâ blades on the edge. One Twitter user discovered an interesting design inspiration as well:
I finally remembered what the gauntlets on the Batsuit remind me of, Samurai armor gauntlets: pic.twitter.com/fAgMUsHNEH
â MisterBatfleck (@Mister_BatfIeck) February 22, 2020Do keep in mind however, that this is a stunt-ready suit and not the exact one that Pattinson will be wearing. Stunt suits compromise looks for better mobility, and with the world of post-production at director Matt Reevesâ fingertips, itâs likely that weâd see a more polished version of this soon, along with Pattinsonâs infamous jawline behind the cowl.
Fans were quick to share reactions - several liked the gritty aesthetic of the new suit.
He looks BADASS !!!! #TheBatman pic.twitter.com/7mgzSWRmFu

â Erik (@ErikJRocha) February 21, 2020However, haters gonna hate, no doubt.
Am I the only one that thinks that he looks awful? I can't quite put my finger on it but not digging it at all.
â Matt (@Spliffzilla) February 21, 2020WTF IS THAT BATSUIT OMG PLEASE STOP @RealSkillwaves
â NexT_GeN_EXpeRT (@Next_Gen_Expert) February 21, 2020Fans also pointed out the unusual bug-eyed eye slits of the suit, and speculated that the eyes may be made to glow using CGI. The iconic cape was also suggested to have been left for animators to add in after principal photography.
Some fans have decided to label this version of the suit as a âprototypeâ - suggesting that Batman takes a beating in the film and redesigns his suit later on. With no official plot details on the table yet⦠it's anyoneâs guess.
Pattinson himself had a few things to say about taking on the suit. âIâd had Batman in my mind for a while,â the actor said, adding: âItâs such an absurd thing to say. I sort of had an idea to do it, and Iâd been prodding Matt. He didnât accept any prods. I kept asking to meet him.â
Once the audition process kicked into its final stages, Pattinson did try on the iconic costume. âI remember saying to Matt, âIt does feel quite transformative!â. He was like, âI would hope it does! Youâre literally in the Batsuit.â
