Taapsee Pannu. Sigh. This woman had me in her grip since Pink and then with Mulk, then Badlaâ¦the list just goes on. Basically, I now know what to expect when I see her on-screen: Badassery.

Her latest movie Thappad started making waves ever since its powerful trailer was dropped online.
People were already convinced that Taapsee was on the way to add another âhitâ in her kitty, as a glimpse into her powerful performance, left people wanting more.

The Anubhav Sinha-directed movie, basically, holds a giant mirror to the society showing them the underlying patriarchy in our society, which is internalised to such an extent that one just ends up overlooking the evil that it is. Something that is bound to make most people squirm in their seats.

Thappad has finally hit the screens today and as expected, people are raving about the movie, its plot, the concept, the hard underlying message, but most importantly, Taapsee.
This person is impressed, indeed.
Just completed #Thappad and it was just wowwwww! What a moral behind the movie. You have done a great job @taapsee as usual. Thank you for giving this type of movie. Every man and woman must watch this movie.
â Dhameliya Dhruvil (@DDhruvil7) February 25, 2020Taapseeâs best work ever? He thinks so.
#Thappad is a film for everyone. Even though it fights patriarchy, itâs informed, sensitive, and creates an environment that doesnât glorify any of the two sides. @anubhavsinha Hats off ð¼. @taapsee delivers easily one of her best performances ï¸ð¼
â Jash (@jashtchill) February 28, 2020A must-watch.
Just watched #Thappad & I highly recommend it. Beautiful scenes, brilliant dialogues, and an extremely delicate and important subject dealt with immense sensitivity. @taapsee ï¸ take a bow.
A must watch movie. #ThappadReview #Taapsee #DomesticViolence
Kudos, Mr Director.

Fair warning.
#Thappad is Powerful & Technically sound with @taapsee delivering performance of a lifetime while @anubhavsinha is technically sound and leaves an impact.
Masses will find hard to connect. #ThappadReview - âââ (3/5) pic.twitter.com/lfMLQKNiKI
And just like everything else, this too has its flipside as the hashtag #BoycottThappad splashed across Twitter.
Oh, boy.
Thappad se divorce
Ghar todne wali movie#BoycottThappad
Wait. What?
We boycott @taapsee movie thappad. As see is the part of #UrbanNaxals and #TukdeTukdeGang. We don't want to see Naxals movie. #boycottthappad
â Manwender Singh (@singh_manwender) February 26, 2020The dedication is real.
#boycottthappad Not just boycott, we wonât watch this movie even in its pirated form.
â SR India 1 (@sanjayrais) February 26, 2020Ok. That escalated quickly.
If you're a #Hindu please #boycottthappad ...
Even if u do not support #KapilMishra or d government atleast you should be a patriot.
Boycotting #Thappad is a patriotic move because @taapsee supports those who are doing riots in nation's capital. They killed #AnkitSharma
Well, did people think Taapsee was just going to let trolls go around and do their thing? The star, while speaking to ETimes reacted to #BoycottThappad trending on Twitter and unsurprisingly, seemed rather unperturbed.
âI think personal opinions of actors should not affect their profession and I donât really think it does to an extent. It takes about 1000-2000 tweets to trend a certain hashtag. Does that really affect a film? I donât think so.

I might have different social and political views from a lot of people but that does not mean people will not go and watch the film. An actor is never bigger than a film. A film has hundreds of people involved in it. It is stupid to decide whether or not you will watch a movie based on an actorâs socio-political views.â Taapsee said.

In the end, the choice is yours, people- watch it or donât watch it. However, going out of your way to ensure no one watches it is a bit, hmmâ¦whatâs the word I am looking for hereâ¦oh, âjuvenileâ, donât you think? Itâs a free country and letâs keep it that way, please.
