âLove is blindâ is a very common saying that we hear every other day from someone or the other. But, lately, weâve also realized that the world is a strange place and every new day is a competition to the birth of an even stranger incident.
Now, coming to the point, we recently found out that at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust people were surprised when a zebra gave birth to a zonkey. Yes! A zonkey is a hybrid baby of zebra and a donkey.

A little confusing but true! The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust took to social media and wrote, âLast May, the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Veterinary Unit received a call from the KWS Community Warden at Mutomo Station. A stray zebra ventured out of the Tsavo East National Park, and into a community bordering the park. She made herself right at home there, becoming an honorary member of a local womanâs cattle herd. This situation continued for many weeks until the story was aired on local media, and then our team was asked to help translocate the zebra back to a protected area.â

She was later translocated to Kenze Anti-poaching teamâs base in Chulu National Park. However, this year the team found the zebra with a tiny foal.
After a few weeks, they recognized the pair properly and figured out the real scenario. Now, as we earlier mentioned, âlove is blindâ and the zebra might have fallen in love with a donkey.

Sounds unusual but if you look back at the life choices you have made when it comes to falling in love, you wouldnât find zebraâs choice that strange! Zonkey is a rare hybrid between a zebra and a donkey which means its opposite of âRab Ne Bana Di Jodiâ. Later on, the workers connected the dots and figured out how a zonkey was born.

Turns out, according to the trust,âDuring her time living within the community last year, she had obviously become acquainted with an amorous donkey. The zonkey combines the sturdy body of its donkey sire and the striped legs of its zebra mother, which makes for a striking creature. While it should otherwise lead a normal life, zonkeys are mules, meaning that it will be unable to successfully breed once it reaches maturity.â However, the mother and the baby are healthy and living a good life. Also, the wonders of nature donât always give us what we want and will surprise you every day!
