The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the Coronavirus originated last year, has raised its official COVID-19 death toll by 50%, adding 1,290 fatalities and bringing up the final tally to a staggering 3,869 lives lost.
While Wuhan officials have attributed the stark increase to insufficient admission capabilities at hospitals overwhelmed during the outbreakâs peak in the city, several experts remain sceptic - as Chinese authorities have repeatedly worked to tone down the media impact of the virus by delaying action and restricting access to foreign inspectors, giving the impression that cities and towns were successfully managing the emergency.
