Irrfan Dies At 53: A Timeline Of His Warrior-Like Battle With Neuroendocrine Tumour

The news of the sad demise of the critically-acclaimed and award-winning actor Irrfan broke on Wednesday as he lost his ongoing battle with cancer. It was in 2018 when Irrfan Khan first revealed to the public about his neuroendocrine tumour. He looked set on his path to recovery since then and fans were relieved to see him make a comeback on the big screens with Angrezi Medium earlier this year. But as fate would have it, he was hospitalised earlier this week and unfortunately passed away within a few hours.

The official spokesperson confirmed the news and shared the statement:

"I trust, I have surrendered'; These were some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heartfelt note he wrote in 2018 opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen. Itâs saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, someone who fought till the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him. After having been struck by lightning in 2018 with the news of rare cancer, he took life soon after as it came and he fought the many battles that came with it. Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heavenly abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, 'As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it'."

Minutes before the statement, director Shoojit Sircar, who had worked with Irrfan on multiple projects, took to Twitter to confirm the big news and wrote, "My dear friend Irfaan. You fought and fought and fought. I will always be proud of you.. we shall meet again.. condolences to Sutapa and Babil.. you too fought, Sutapa you gave everything possible in this fight. Peace and Om shanti. Irfaan Khan salute."

On Tuesday, news about Irrfanâs deteriorating health did the rounds on social media before he was admitted to Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. Irrfan had lost his mother only three days earlier.

This led to panic among the fans with extreme rumours about his ill-health being circulated online.

These are the words we dimly hear: You, sent out beyond your recall, go to the limits of your longing. Embody me. Flare up like a flame and make big shadows I can move in. Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. Donât let yourself lose me. Nearby is the country they call life. You will know it by its seriousness. Just before Karwaan was about to release, the actor shared details about his treatment and revealed he had undergone his fourth round of chemotherapy. He told Hindustan Times, âI have had the fourth cycle of chemo. And I have to have six cycles and then we need to have a scan. After the third cycle, the scan was positive.
