10 Iconic & Evergreen Dance Moves That Saroj Khan Gifted Bollywood
The year 2020 isnât really bringing much good news especially for Bollywood as the glitz town has lost another legendary celebrity. Bollywood choreographer-dancer Saroj Khan passed away on July 3 leaving fans and industry colleagues shocked and saddened.
âMaster Jiâ, as she was fondly called, breathed her last at the Guru Nanak Hospital in Mumbai following a cardiac arrest, as per the reports. In her lifetime, the 71-year-old legendary dancer had choreographed many songs pictured on iconic heroines like Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan among many others. In fact, Saroj Khan had a huge role to play in making Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi the stars of the industry. The veteran that she was, teaching Bollywoodâs iconic heroines dance to the likes of many, her legacy continues with the body of work she has left to follow. Not to forget, she was also one of the pioneers in the choreography business and has laid the path for her contemporaries today.
Master Ji has given us innumerable hits for roughly every occasion and evergreen signature steps that continue to be favourite of many till date. Sure, there is a hoard of talented choreographers in todayâs time but none nuanced like our very own Saroj Khan.

The peppy number featuring Madhuri Dixit has iconic dance steps and was a real chartbuster. This song made Madhuri a household name and the choreography was spot on. The song was a part of the 1988 film Tezaab, a love story starring Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Anupam Kher, Chunky Pandey among others.
2. Dola Re (Devdas)
Saroj Khan received the National Award for best choreography of this iconic song from Devdas. The popular track features Madhuri and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a grand haveli. The signature step of this song created a lot of buzz and garnered heaps of praise.
This track was Saroj Khanâs one of the most popular ones. Clad in a blue lehenga choli, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan aced the moves of this song from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Apart from her moves, Aishwaryaâs facial expressions too were so apt that the track continues to be many peopleâs favorite even today.
Starring Sridevi, this evergreen song is still popular. Both Sridevi and Saroj Khan were at the peak of their career during that time. Hawa Hawai was part of the science fiction film Mr. India, directed by Shekhar Kapur, and starred Anil Kapoor in a lead role.
5. Ye Ishq Haaye (Jab We Met)
Saroj Khan received a National Award for this evergreen song Ye Ishq Haaye too, featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor, from the film Jab We Met. The film was directed by Imtiaz Ali.
Even actor Kajol Devgn did a lot of films under Khanâs choreography. From Ishq to Baazigar, the actress learnt it all from the noted choreographer. In fact, our all time favourite is Mehandi Laga Ke Rakhna from the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ).
This iconic song choreographed by Khan is from the 1995 film Yaraana starring Madhuri Dixit, Rishi Kapoor, Raj Babbar, Kader Khan, and Shakti Kapoor.
8. Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai (Khalnaayak)
Saroj Khan made sure Madhuri and Neena Gupta looked elegant and graceful in Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai. Madhuri stunned everyone in this number from the 1993 blockbuster Khalnayak.
This signature dance step from Channe Ke Khet Mein is enough to lead one to the filmâs name, Anjaam. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. Even though the film wasn't a big hit, Saroj Khanâs choreography continues to remain a highpoint.
The multi-starrer Kalank was Saroj Khanâs last film as a choreographer. She has choreographed the song Tabah HoâGaye, picturised on Madhuri Dixit. This popular track takes us back to the olden days and Madhuri aces the Kathak moves with utmost elegance and perfection.
