Over the last few years, India has been making a lot of progress when it comes to its indigenous technological productions and successes. Apart from the Indian Space Research Organization which has been in the headlines lately, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has also been making great advances in defense technologies that is making India proud all around the globe.

DRDO is currently making news for having successfully flight tested the indigenously-developed hypersonic technology demonstrator vehicle (HSTDV) in Balasore, Odisha. With this latest achievement by DRDO, India has become the fourth country in the world to have developed and successfully tested hypersonic technology. The other three nations to have succeeded in this endeavour previously include the United States, Russia and China.

This technology shall make way for the development of missiles which can travel at six times the speed of sound, moving at more than two kilometres per second. In other words, the HSTDV will help in powering long-range, hypersonic missiles and aerial platforms which shall be produced by DRDO in partnership with domestic defense industry over the next five years.

This achievement had Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulating the DRDO for having successfully developed an indigenously built scramjet engine. He also added that it was a landmark achievement towards the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
