Millennials Can’t Believe Bata Is Not An Indian Brand & We’re Like ‘Keh Do Ki Yeh Jhoot Hai’

Has it ever happened to you that you believed something to be true so wholeheartedly, that you never bothered to check the facts?

And then one fine day, all it takes is a single social media post and a quick google search to change it all and make you rethink every decision you’ve taken in your life, so far.

Well, it seems like thousands of Indians are currently dealing with a similar predicament after it was recently announced that Bata, yes the famous shoe company every Indian loves and trusts, has chosen an Indian Global CEO for the first time in history.

Sure enough, the news of Bata India CEO Sandeep Kataria bagging the coveted global role in the company’s 126-year history was a pleasant surprise, but what seems to have shocked many  others (including myself) is the realisation that Bata is, in fact, not an Indian company!

Yes, you read that right. I really feel like that Instagram meme which trended recently and began with something like ‘I was today years old when I found out...Bata is not an Indian, but Swiss company’.

No wonder so many other millennials, who may have grown up witnessing their swadeshi-loving elders speak highly of this brand, assumed that Bata might just be another Tata product.

But alas, how mistaken were we and just like that all our growing up years seem like a farce because we’re really questioning our belief system and sense of judgement.

But if it’s some consolation, check out all the others who are currently having a hard time dealing with this disillusionment.

Congrats to the CEO tho from r/india

I always thought Bata is an Indian brand!!!

For most of my youth, I thought #bata was an Indian company. Now Sandeep Kataria appointment made the company join Indian CEO wagon. Most Indians thought Philips was Indian too, so @FonsStoelinga used to say TCS is a Dutch company. https://t.co/KpNE7obiXZ

Bata feels so Indian but it's a Switzerland based Brand ( Lausanne based ) and finally getting an Indian CEO #sandeepkataria to be Global Head of #bata

It's a good thing that Bata appointed an India CEO for the first time. Most Indians think Bata is an Indian brand anyway
