In another episode of this ‘happens only in India’, a couple decided to adopt a calf as their son after they were unable to conceive a child even after 15 years of their marriage. 

The couple named the calf as ‘Laltu baba’. Not only this, Vijaypal and Rajeshwari Devi also invited over 500 guests to the ‘mundan’ or head-shaving ritual for their son ‘Laltu Baba’.

The couple took the calf to Laaltu Ghat which is situated on the banks of Gomti river and performed the ceremony. After the pooja, the priest also gave blessings to the calf and its parents. Not only this, but a feast was also held where people from across the village arrived with gifts.

Vijaypal told TOI, “I always treated Laltu as my son. The calf has been attached to us since its birth. Laltu's love for us is true and unconditional.”

“We were surprised to see the 'mundan' invitation. A lot of people attended. We were all excited and happy for the couple and the calf,” said a local villager, Ratnesh Mishra.

Vijaypal lost his parents and felt very lonely in his home in Shahjahanpur. All his sisters who were younger than him also got married. He said that he was very close to the cow (Laltu’s mother) who was brought to the home by his father. So, when the cow passed away they decided to adopt the calf as his child.

Vijaypal also said, "When we can accept a cow as our mother then why not its calf as a son.”
