We're living in a world where social media is taking a centre stage in most people's lives. It has come to a point where most of us consume news through these digital platforms. Obviously, not everything you read or see online is fake, but unfortunately, a huge chunk of them are.
That's exactly why the Kerala govt has announced a digital media literacy programme called βSatyameva Jayateβ. The idea behind the programme is to teach kids and students in schools and colleges about social media awareness. It'll teach them how to navigate the internet and social.

In addition to that, it'll teach them how to fact-check and not fall for fake news. Announcing the programme, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan noted how smartphone and internet penetration is much higher in Kerala than any other state. That increases the chances for the spread of lies and wrong information through social media.
The programme will primarily include five points - what is wrong information; why they are spreading fast; what precautions have to be adopted while using the content of social media; how those who spread fake news make a profit; and what steps can be initiated by citizens.

We think this is a great initiative and it's the one that should be implemented across the nation and not just in Kerala. This will definitely allow people to be more confident while browsing different social media platforms or just the internet in general.
