Two 22-year-olds took inspiration from a web series and staged a kidnapping for some extra money. 

The accused, Nadeem and Aftab who reside in Zakir Nagar had also stolen a mobile phone from a woman on the same day. Later, they demanded a ransom of Rs. 2 lakh from their family after staging a kidnapping.

The Police explained that Nadeem worked in his father's furniture shop. His father is a strict man and didn't let him consume any alcohol, and he never gave him money to get alcohol either. 

Taking inspiration from Abhishek Bachchan's Breathe: Into the Shadows, they decided to stage a fake kidnapping to get money for alcohol.

Aftab's father approached the police and told them that his nephew, Nadeem, had been kidnapped. They also informed the police of the ransom demand of Rs 2 lakh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) RP Meena said, "Our police team initiated a search and checked CCTVs in the area. We also checked call detail records of Nadeem's phone and found that he was in constant touch with a female friend. When contacted, his friend told police that Nadeem was with his cousin Aftab."

The father also said that his son, Aftab was also missing. On inspecting the CCTVs, the police found that no kidnapping had taken place, he added.

Later that day, another complaint was received where a woman was robbed of her phone at Jamia Nagar, on examining the CCTVs, they linked two complaints and found the two men involved.

Clearly, a web series and the alcohol craving was enough motivation for the two men to scare their families.
