Washing your face seems like the most basic chore of the day. However, if you're doing it wrong, it could be the very reason behind your skincare woes.

Here are a few things that you should keep in mind while cleaning your face every day.

Do:

∎ Use lukewarm water to wash your face. This temperature is great for weeding out dirt and gunk from the skin.

However, be mindful of the temperature, water that is too hot can also dehydrate the skin quickly by stripping its naturally formed protective oil barrier.

∎ Make sure you're rinsing out all the foam and soap residue. If the residue is left behind, it can block your pores.

∎ Lastly, find a good face wash that suits your skin type. You need a face wash that is gentle to your skin and also checks all the boxes when it comes to tackling your skin woes.

Don’t:

∎ Keep using the same towel to wipe your face for weeks at end.

Reusing the same towel over and over can spread bacteria, leading to skin breakouts and defeating the purpose of washing your face every day.

∎ Use the same towel that you use to clean up the rest of the body.

We have germs all over our bodies that shouldn't come in contact with our face especially after washing it.

It is advisable to have separate towels for both the face and the rest of the body.

∎ Wash your face harshly or more than twice a day defeats the purpose of all the TLC you give your skin during a skincare routine.

The pulling of the skin leads to the loss of its natural elasticity and will lead to baggy skin or ageing of the skin quickly.
