Fire Breaks Out At SII Building Where Covishield Vaccine Produced & People Are Like ‘Ab Kya Hoga’

Recently a major fire broke out at the Pune-based vaccine manufacturing company, Serum Institute of India on Thursday.

The company is involved in producing the COVID-19 vaccine Covishield which was developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca which has been given emergency authorization in India and will be used in the country’s mega vaccination drive.

According to PTI, Deputy Commissioner of Police Namrata Patil said that the fire broke out around 2:45 pm and on the fifth floor of the SEZ 3 building in the Serum Institute.

She said, "As per the primary information, three people have been evacuated. 10 fire tenders have reached the site of the mishap. One team of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) moved to the site as well.”

Nobody yet knows the cause of the fire and no casualties have been reported yet. The Manjari facility is where the fire first broke and that’s where the Covishield vaccine is made.

However, this incident would not impact the production of the Coronavirus vaccine as the fire broke out in a facility away from the place where the anti-coronavirus vaccines are made.

Also, the site where the fire first broke out is an under-construction building at SII. ANI quoted that the vaccine manufacturing plant is sorted and everything is under control.

Now visuals of the incident have flooded social media and show smoke coming out of the buildings-
