Nobody yet knows the cause of the fire and no casualties have been reported yet. The Manjari facility is where the fire first broke and that’s where the Covishield vaccine is made.
However, this incident would not impact the production of the Coronavirus vaccine as the fire broke out in a facility away from the place where the anti-coronavirus vaccines are made.
Also, the site where the fire first broke out is an under-construction building at SII. ANI quoted that the vaccine manufacturing plant is sorted and everything is under control.
Now visuals of the incident have flooded social media and show smoke coming out of the buildings-
Looks like a major fire at the Serum Institute of India, the manufacturer of the Covishield vaccine. Hope everyone is safe.
