Fans Are As Surprised As Virat Kohli After The Skipper Departs For A 5-Ball Duck

Indian skipper Virat Kohli was left befuddled when he was bowled through the gates by a stunning delivery from Moeen Ali. Kohli was bowled for a duck after facing just five deliveries.

India got off to a poor start in the first innings after captain Kohli won the toss and opted to bat first. Shubhman Gill was dismissed for a duck but Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara steadied the ship and were on track for a big partnership. However, Jack Leach was quick to strike and dismiss Pujara.

Kohli fell soon after to Moeen Aliโ€™s incredible delivery. It was followed by pin-drop silence in the Chepauk stadium as Kohli went back to the pavilion after having faced just five deliveries. The crowd was really looking forward to the skipperโ€™s batting as they were cheering on even after Pujara was dismissed by Leach.

Skipper Kohli, however, was left shell-shocked at his dismissal. Shocked by his dismissal, he was still not ready to leave the pitch even though the England players were celebrating around him. This made the on-field umpire refer the decision to the third umpire to find out if the ball had actually hit the stumps.

As it turned out, the ball had actually hit the top of the middle stump as Kohli tried to play a rather loose shot, driving away from his body, thus falling prey to Aliโ€™s delivery. But the skipperโ€™s disbelief was there to be seen at the middle of the pitch.

While it left some of the Indian fans embarrassed, some were quick to highlight captain Kohliโ€™s weakness against off-spinners. Hereโ€™s how people reacted on the internet:

It's almost like #Kohli expected the fielding side to say 'sorry sorry mazaak kar rahay thay, aap khelte rahein'... https://t.co/a2P3ZydEby

Currently, Rohit Sharma is batting at 98 and has been rather unperturbed by the pitch being rather tricky. Ajinkya Rahane is on the other end of the crease at 25. India are 145/3 after 41.2 overs and trail the series 0-1.
