BAFTA's Emotional Tribute To Rishi Kapoor & Irrfan Khan Left Everyone Teary-Eyed


The 74th British Academy of Films and Television Awards (BAFTA) took place recently and fans were left teary-eyed watching the In Memoriam segment when Indian icons Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor were paid an emotional tribute. The actors passed away in April last year.

Emotional fans took to social media and shared screenshots from the presentation ceremony expressing their grief and happiness at the actors being awarded the prestigious awards.

A Twitter user named Bhushan tweeted late at night, β€œMy heart when seeing Irrfan and Rishi Kapoor is the Memoriam segment #BAFTA,” while another one sharing a clip from The Lunchbox added, β€œAnd *so* saddened to see that wonderful actor Irrfan Khan died this year. He was terrific in The Lunchbox a few years ago. Wonderful actor.”

Many international fans even showed surprise at the passing away of the actors.

The video played at the awards night on Sunday started with a tribute which was for Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Irrfan Khan was mentioned along with a dialogue from his Hollywood film Life of Pi.

The actor passed away in Mumbai on April 29 after battling with a neuroendocrine tumour for two years. Bollywood superstar Rishi Kapoor also died a day later battling cancer at the age of 67.

BAFTA also posthumously honored a few more celebrities including George Segal, Sean Connery, Yaphet Kotto, Barbara Windsor, Olivia de Havilland, Alan Parker, Max von Sydow, Kirk Douglas, Christopher Plummer, and Chadwick Boseman.

Indian fans were also very disheartened about the passing away of actor Chadwick Boseman who was last seen in Da 5 Bloods and 21 Bridges but is more popularly known for his role as the iconic T'Challa in Black Panther.

The Hollywood actor was secretly battling colon cancer for four years and had not disclosed this to the public.
