‘Behave Yourself,’ Virat Kohli Gets Heavily Criticised After Getting Fined For Silly Reason

Virat Kohli was recently reprimanded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for “breaching the VIVO Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct” during the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and SunRisers Hyderabad, according to a media advisory of the league.

The official statement reads that the RCB skipper had admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct and that the decision taken by the match referee would be final and binding.

And even though the statement doesn’t specifically mention exactly what did the cricketer do to have breached the Code of Conduct, it has been speculated that it had to do with a little display of aggression after he lost his wicket in the 13th over.

In a video from the match, Kohli could be seen smashing a plastic chair with his bat after stepping over the boundary line and on his way to the dressing room, as his teammates Washinton Sundar, and Yuzvendra Chahal watched silently from distance.

Within minutes of the video being uploaded, Virat Kohli critics slammed the cricketer for his behaviour while talking about how he should realise that he is a role model to millions of kids who are watching him perform his theatrics on live television:

Very poor behavior @imVkohli. @sachin_rt never did like this in his times. Poor action ,children r watching u what will u emulate 2 them....

As far as the match is concerned, RCB’ 149-run innings ended up being just enough of a challenge for David Warner and the SunRisers Hyderabad to keep up against. Running out of balls to play with one player left to spare, SRH could only score 143 in 20 overs and ended up losing the match by six runs.

A stunning effort by Glenn Maxwell in the middle order earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ recognition for his 59-off 41 deliveries while his Australian teammate Warner remained the second-highest scorer of the night.

In the bowling department, the 26-year old Shahbaz Ahmed became the star for Kohli who gave up just seven runs in two overs while removing big names like Manish Pandey, and Jonny Bairstow from the strike.

With two back to back victories, RCB has now climbed to the top of the IPL 2021 points table.
