Man Turns His Auto-Rickshaw Into An Oxygen-Equipped Ambulance To Serve People For Free


The alarming Covid-19 crisis may have brought India and its citizens down to its knees, but amidst this significant adversity, it has certainly brought out the best in people who are now working with each other and for each other to provide hospital beds, medicines, oxygen as well as emotional support to people in need.Β

One such example is 34-year-old Javed Khan, an auto-rickshaw driver in Bhopal, who has converted his vehicle into an ambulance to help commute people to the hospital for free.Β 

According to reports, Javed's make-shift ambulance has been equipped with an oxygen cylinder, sanitizers, and other medicines.Β

India on Friday (April 30) registered a record high 3,86,000 cases while also recording more than 3,000 deaths for the third day running.Β 

The statistics represent a grim picture of the Covid-19 scenario inside the country as people remain helpless in saving their loved ones affected by the virus.Β 

Javed, who has been explained how he was left traumatized by the plight of the people, who were not even able to get ambulances on their way to the hospital.Β 

Β "I saw on social media & news channels how people were being carried to hospitals due to the shortage of ambulance. So I thought of doing this," said Javed, while speaking with ANI.Β Β

He said he spoke about the scenario to his family, who advised him to convert his auto into an ambulance.

However, due to the lack of resources at hand, he had to sell his wife's jewelry to finance the additions to his auto.Β 

"I sold my wife's jewelry for this. I queue up outside a refill center & get oxygen. My contact number is available on social media. People can call me up if there's no ambulance. I've been doing this for 15-20 days now & have taken 9 serious patients to the hospital." said Javed.

Now, at a time when ambulances in the country are charging astronomical prices to take patients to hospitals in emergencies, the thought of there being selfless people like Javed Khan in the country surely helps a lot.Β
