Court Finds Man Guilty Of Hurting Woman’s Feelings On WhatsApp, Orders Him To Pay Her Rs. 3.9 Lakh

People often find social media platforms more convenient to troll, bully and insult someone because it's the easiest way to say what you want without any confrontation.

However, have you ever wondered what’s the worst thing that could happen to you if you are being rude or insulting someone on a messaging app?

This UAE man found the answer to this question the hard (and quite an expensive) way.

He hurt a woman’s feelings by accusing her of befriending and seducing other men over Whatsapp text.

He had also accused her of sending inappropriate pictures to other men and allegedly said in one of the texts, “Shame on you and your upbringing.”

The woman went to court and demanded a compensation of 100000 dirhams (INR 19 lakh) for all the humiliation and mental trauma she suffered because of him.

She said she received text messages from him accusing her of having relationships with multiple men.

The Al Ain Court of First Instance found the man guilty of hurting her feelings and reputation via texts and ordered him to pay a compensation of 20,000 dirhams which equates to approx. 3.95 lakh INR.

He was also asked to cover her legal charges incurred in the case along with the compensation amount.

The defendant had requested the court to reject her plea claiming that she owed him 39000 dirhams and this lawsuit was a stint to negotiate the amount.

However, seeing the evidence, the court convicted him in the criminal case of causing moral damage and insulting the woman, which is an unlawful act.

However bizarre it sounds, this isn’t strange for UAE courts and this is certainly not the first case where a person has been ordered to compensate someone for insult. Prior to this, people have been charged with a hefty amount of money for insulting someone via audio clips and texts in the past.
