Sunidhi Chauhan Shares Why She Quit 'Indian Idol' & How It Can Harm The Contestants

Singing reality show, Indian Idol, has been trending for all the wrong reasons for a while now. If you follow the show, you'd remember that Sunidhi Chauhan was one of the judges on the show and ever since she quit the show, she's never been seen judging any reality show. She has finally revealed why she walked out of it.Β

The reason remains the same as mentioned by Kishore Kumar's son Amit Kumar who recently expressed his disappointment at one of the episodes wherein the judges and contestants paid tributes to the legendary singer. He was asked to praise all the contestants and overlook how they actually performed.

And this is exactly why Sunidhi left the show. In an interview with The Times of India, singer Sunidhi Chauhan said, β€œIt wasn't exactly that we were asked to praise everyone but yes, we all were told. That was the basic thing. And so, I couldn't go on. I couldn't do what they wanted and thus parted ways. This is one of the reasons why I am not judging any reality show.”

She went on to add that how this could harm the contestants in the long run as all the fame they have been getting can destroy their careers.

β€œThis, in turn, harms the artiste only. One gets recognition and praise overnight because of one's stories, and then the urge to perform better diminishes. Some of them still work hard, but instant fame affects most of them. I wouldn't say it's the contestants' fault, it's the TRPs that put them in such a position,” added the singer.

We completely agree with her viewpoint as Indian reality shows have become more like daily soaps where the focus is primarily on tragic backgrounds the contestants have rather than their talent.

Some time back, the winner of the first season of Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant, had also attacked the show. In one of the interviews, he had said, β€œIf you look at the regional reality shows, then the audience will hardly know about the background of the contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, the tragic and sad stories of contestants are the main focus.”
