7 Rare Amrish Puri Roles Where He Wasn’t A Sadistic Villain, But A Good Guy

When you think of the most evil villains of Bollywood, only a few names come to mind and one of them is that of Amrish Puri. The legendary actor had the stern, desi dad look, the sadistic smile and an evil look in the eyes whenever he appeared as the 'khalnayak' on the screen.

He played the bad guy in several movies like Koyla, Nayak and Mr. India (who can forget the iconic Mogambo and his signature dialogue “Mogambo khush hua” which we still use when our mom makes rajma chawal for lunch). However, he also played the good guy; a loving dadaji and the supportive dad in a number of movies too. Yes, he wasn’t always the bad guy.

1. Pardes

Jagmohan Mehta is a wealthy man who befriends a small-town singer Tara Babu. Although he is reluctant to marry his son with Tara Babu’s daughter, he finally agrees in the end gives them his blessings.

Amrish Puri playing the role of Salman Khan’s dadaji in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke is every desi grandfather ever. He hogs on sweets despite being diabetic and uses emotional atyachar to get his grandson to agree to get married.

4. Mujhse Shaadi Karogi

The funniest yet unluckiest character in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi is Colonel Dugraj Singh who is always at the wrong place at the wrong time and gets hit by the man who’s trying to woo his daughter. Still, he approves of him in the end.

5. Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai

Every guy needs a bade papa like Balram Singh just like Tusshar had in Mujhe kuch Kehna Hai. He not only encouraged Karan to live his life on his terms and make mistakes but also covered for him and saved him from his strict dad.

6. Chachi 420

Amrish appeared as the gooey romantic guy in his late 50s who accidentally falls for his son-in-law dressed up as a woman. Him dressing up for her and trying to impress her was the most hilarious part of the movie.

7. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

No he wasn’t a villain in DDLJ. He was the typical strict desi dad who wanted his children to follow his rules and marry the person he has decided for them. However, he was loving and gave in to all of Simran’s requests.
