‘New Zealand Would’ve Been Champs By Now’ Michael Vaughan Triggers Fans As Rain Delays Day 5

Once again, rain has led to the delay in the starting of Day 5 of the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl cricket stadium leading to a further build-up in frustration among the fans of the two sides.

Former England cricketer and one of the more notorious members of the international cricket community, Michael Vaughan used this opportunity to trigger the followers of the Men in Blue by suggesting that Kane Williamson and Co. would have won the match by now had it been played in the northern UK.

If this #worldtestchampionshipfinal been played up north they wouldn’t have missed a minutes play … #Justsaying #INDvsNZ !! NZ would have been champions by now …

“If this #worldtestchampionshipfinal been played up north they wouldn’t have missed a minutes play … #Justsaying #INDvsNZ !! NZ would have been champions by now …” he wrote on Twitter and as expected, he started getting a lot of negative comments by Indian fans in no time at all.

England would have still been sitting in couch and watching it

No guts to chase 4rpo score on Day-5 with 10 wickets in hand
You deserved the thrashing from NZ

Yeah, I am sure you did not see India's batting on the first day where it suited best for the seamers though we scored almost 250, somewhere up north would be close to 350+ score

Give me freedom
Give me fire
Give me engagement
Or I retire without WC

Wait a minute England is not even in the final then why are you speaking

This isn’t the first time Vaughan has taken a pot-shot at the Virat Kohli-led side amid the ongoing World Test Championship final. On the very first day of the match, when the rain had already done its damage and favoured the pacers significantly, making it difficult for the batsmen to have any sort of major impact on the scoreboard.

However, instead of looking for rationale, Vaughan chose controversy once again and said that it was the weather that protected the Indians from a terrible defeat.

I see India have been saved by the weather …. #WorldTestChampionship

Regardless of the fact that it has become clear as day that Vaughan continues to make such provocative statements just to increase engagement on social media accounts, one thing where he does not miss the point is the mess-up on behalf of the International Cricket Council (ICC) who evidently underestimated the uncertainty of the English weather and chose the worst time possible to hold a match of such stature in rain-prone Southampton in June.

Thankfully, Day 5 kicked off, albeit an hour since its scheduled start while the difficulties Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson and his partner Ross Taylor have been going through, shows exactly how demanding the pitch conditions have become against the batsmen and in favour of the pacers and swingers.
