Britney Spears became an iconic pop singer post her smash debut single 'Baby One More Time' in 1998. However, things were not as rosy for the star as a lot of people thought. 

The singer has recently urged the court to end the conservatorship of her father. Jamie Spears was put in charge as Britney's conservator in 2008, after which he got control over most of the aspects of her life. 

While he was a temporary measure earlier, he was made permanent by the US courts and has been 'controlling' Britney's life for the last 12 years.

Britney was hospitalised, following a psychiatric treatment, which was widely reported. 

In a recent video link, Britney went on to say that she wants her life back and isn't happy about it. She also pleaded to the judge saying, "I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I want changes, I deserve changes."

Here are ways in which Spears claimed her father controls her life:

1. Control Over Intimate Details

Britney mentioned that she wants to live a normal life, get married and have kids. She told the court, "I want to be able to get married and have a baby." 

The singer has two children from her previous marriage and wished to get her IUD removed, but the conservatorship didn't allow her to do so, due to medical care control. 

She is also banned from seeing her friends.

2. Involvement In Personal Life

Back in 2009, there were leaked voicemails unveiled by her lawyer. 

In this, her father used the visitation rights with her two children against her, so she could stop fighting the conservatorship in the court.

3. Forced To Perform Against Her Will

She also spoke about how the management threatened her in 2018 if she didn't do her concerts. They also reported to her therapists, that Britney wasn't taking medications. 

Britney added to this that it was threatening and scary. She also said, "The people who did this to me should not be able to walk away so easily … I’m not here to be anyone’s slave. I can say no to a dance move.”

4. Control Over Most Matters

Under the conservatorship of James Spears, Britney has no control over any personal decision. That power has been given to Jamie and her attorney, Andrew Wallet. 

Jamie was given the rights to control Britney's estate and health, which means discussing business opportunities and control of her personal life. Whereas the attorney controlled the financial assets.

5. Not Being Able To Make Basic Life Decisions

Spears also told the court, that the conservatorship was supposed to help her, but she is unable to make even the most basic life decision and can't spend her own money. 

She mentioned that the laws need to change, so she can live a full life. She also added that the people who control need to know that they actually work for her.

Even her fans started a movement called #FreeBritney that made a resurgence again after they realised how her father is running the singer's life.

The FreeBritney.net site said she is not allowed to enter into contracts without seeking legal permission. In fact, she needs to seek permission even to leave her house. The movement also went out on the streets, to end the control over her life.

6. Unable To Speak With The Media

She is also barred from speaking with the media. She added, I can’t say one thing … I have a right to use my voice.” 

As per reports, Spears wants the conservatorship to end soon, as she doesn't want to be taken advantage of anymore.

7. Lack Of Empathy

Spears also said that the doctors put her on medications that made her feel drunk and she wasn't even allowed to change in private or drive in her own or her boyfriend's car. 

As per the news, she was also forced into rehab and had to pay $60,000. Her father showed no concern and every little thing had to be approved by her dad.
