‘Have Some Shame’ Vaughan Justifies Booing Of German Anthem, Fans Ask How Low Can He Stoop

Michael Vaughan is one of those human beings who clearly believes in the formula that ‘all publicity is good publicity’ and it doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad.

Hence, it doesn’t even surprise us anymore when his tweets stir up unnecessary controversies because those were, in most cases, sent out for that very purpose.

His pre-match predictions have earned him many haters on social media, mainly from India, and we are damn sure his latest tweet is definitely going to make him a villain in the eyes of many football lovers.

This is not British. It’s not sporting. You just don’t boo the opposing team’s national anthem. pic.twitter.com/Ojm2sz3WP1

The craze of Euro 2020 has taken over the entire continent of Europe and England, being the co-host of the tournament, is no different where people are finding different ways to root for their team.

The atmosphere was electric when England hosted Germany at the Wembley Stadium in London for their Round of 16 clash Tuesday night.

We all know how hostile the opposition fans can be and that’s one of the challenges any professional athlete has to overcome while playing away from home and the Germans perhaps came prepared.

Who boos the opposing team’s national anthem? Unsporting. Uncivil. Unbelievable. #ENGGER

But no one really expected things to get this cagey even before the kick-off.

The players were lined up for their respective national anthems and as has been the trend the visiting team sang first. A score of English supporters at the iconic venue started booing the German national anthem which created a divide on social media.

However, the former England captain doesn’t see any harm in this atrocious behaviour and defended those who disrespected the opposition’s national anthem and justified it by saying “it always happens and always should''.

I don’t understand all those on here abusing the England fans last night for booing the German anthem .. It always happens & always should .. it’s only like booing the villain at pantomime .. get over it .. #itscominghame

Fans ripped him apart using all kinds of adjectives and described his tweet as shameful.

Vaughan had once criticised English fans for booing Steve Smith and David Warner after they returned from their ball-tampering ban.

By justifying such a pathetic act, Vaughan has gone further down in the eyes of many and fans are wondering how low can he stoop now.

There is something called SHAME ......please have it

I imagine you’d be fine with the Germans booing God Save The Queen then too?

— Daniel Shack (@Daniel_Shack) June 30, 2021

oooh so now u r saying ppl should start disrespecting other countries? new low mate

— Vijay SHankar Fan (@3DPlayerFan) June 30, 2021

Totally agree - How low can we stoop to?

— Bobby (@LoboErrrol) June 30, 2021

Were Warner and Smith not the pantomime villains but yet you didn’t like them being booed? Strange logic Michael. pic.twitter.com/zKbrCmBh5l

— Neil Watson (@neilers87) June 30, 2021

Nah. Sorry, don’t agree with that.

There’s plenty of time after the national anthems to be booing, making the opposition feel uncomfortable and make use of home advantage.

It’s not hard for 2-3 mins to be silent and show a bit of class and respect for another nation.

— Stuart Hackett (@Stueyh111) June 30, 2021

Its a fan's absolute right to boo and jeer the oppositon as loud as they want during a game

But i like to hear and see a bit of respect for the anthems. 30 seconds silence not too much to ask imo

Not surprised tbh pic.twitter.com/Z9MuV3BiFY

Because it's childish and embarrassing. Because it's rarely done elsewhere. Because it's childish and embarrassing.

— Paul Hirons (@Son_Of_Ray) June 30, 2021

Sorry, it lacks class and respect. It’s pathetic.

— Iain Carter (@iaincartergolf) June 30, 2021

It’s disrespectful and there’s no need for it. You can actually have pride in your own team without having to abuse your opponent. I wonder what you would’ve said if interviewed as England cricket captain about booing the Indian or Australian anthem?

Totally agree - How low can we stoop to?
