Most men are rather simple creatures, at least when it comes to their thoughts.  

They don’t overthink an action or don’t run words in their mind before uttering them. Most men don’t even do things with an intent (good or bad) and do or say things as and when it crosses their minds. 

However, thanks to the patriarchal norms and gender stereotypes set by society, all men are seen from one lens.

The ‘he said, she heard’ concept couldn’t get any more real. Everything a man does or says even when a man is genuinely helping or being friendly to a woman, the opposite gender, sometimes, misinterprets his actions and presumes that the only reason he’s doing it is because he wants something.

Here are some of the few things that men do without are highly misunderstood by most women:  

1. Being Friendly Means Being Interested

A man being friendly is simply too hard to digest, especially, for a woman. It is always backed with a doubt that he wants something more. Why else would he be nice to you? Maybe he is just sweet and polite to everyone? 

When a man compliments a woman, it is often wrongly taken as flirting and if he goes out of his way to help her, it is viewed as a sole effort to get into her pants. Not true.   

2. Interrupting A Woman Deemed As Insulting

It happens all the time that when a man is interrupted by a woman, no one says anything about how rude it is to cut someone in when they are speaking but when the opposite happens, the man is lectured by the whole room about how insulting it is to the woman. 

Also, it is taken as an act to lower the woman’s voice which gets a bit dramatic and unnecessary at times. The guy is just trying to get his point across. 

3. Chivalry Mistaken For Closet Sexism

There is a fine line between chivalry and chauvinism and it often gets blurred. 

However, even when men genuinely want to help women carry that super heavy suitcase or offer to file their girlfriend’s taxes, they are accused of being sexists who think women can’t handle their stuff on their own just because they are ‘women’. 

Not all men help women because they are weak or any less, but simply because they want to be of assistance.

4. Simple Explaining Branded As Mansplaining

Mansplaining is telling a woman what she already probably knows in a condescending and patronising way. 

A lot of men think women don’t know shit and feel obligated to explain every single thing to them. However, it’s not necessary that every man does it to put women down. 

A lot of men like to share knowledge and enlighten people they care about and unless it is done in a demeaning manner, it shouldn’t be taken otherwise.    

5. Expression Is Often Misunderstood

Men are conditioned to keep their feelings bottled up and that’s how this stereotype about men not feeling pain or emotions started. 

When they do show emotions, they are branded oversensitive, cowards or a wuss not worthy of being with. On the other hand, when men don't show any emotions and don't express their feelings, they are called heartless and callous. It’s like men can never win.
