The film Shershaah directed by Vishnu Varadhan released on Amazon Prime on 12th August. 

The movie stars Siddharth Malhotra who is playing the role of real-life Kargil War hero, Captain Vikram Batra. The movie also stars Kiara Advani as his love interest. 

Captain Vikram Batra died fighting in the 1999 Kargil war against Pakistan. Batra was posthumously awarded India’s highest military honor for wartime valour, the Param Vir Chakra.

The film also showcased highlights of Batra’s personal life and his love story with Dimple Cheema. And many reports in media also suggested that Dimple and Vikram Batra were engaged to be married after the soldier returns from war. However, in a recent interview, Vishal Batra, brother of Captain Vikram Batra clarified it. 

He said, “Dimple and Vikram were not engaged. It hurts to read wrong reports in the media and I just hope that everyone who matters is reading this and does not do goof-ups in their write-ups hereafter. People who have written that she was his mangetar (fiancée) have just been silly.”

He also said, ahead of the release of the film a picture of Captain Batra and others had surfaced in the public domain. He said that the reports claimed that the woman with Captain Batra is Dimple Cheema and the picture is from their college days. 

Vishal Batra clarified saying, “I must clarify here that the picture of Dimple too that has been floating in the media, where it is claimed in a group picture that she's standing beside my brother- is not the correct one. That girl is Sidharth's classmate and not Dimple.”

Vishal Batra was also asked if at any point after Captain Vikram Batra’s demise told Dimple Cheema that she should get married. To which Vishal responded saying, “Yes, I did. Even my parents told her.” 

Vishal Batra also spoke about how he arranged a meeting between reel-life Dimple Cheema (Kiara Advani) and real-life Dimple Cheema. He said, “Kiara met Dimple one-on-one at her hotel. I think they chatted for 3-4 hours at least.”
