Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is a pretty noted politician who often pops up on the news for a string of different issues, usually on the lighter side.
After joining politics, Tharoor became a part of several controversies as Twitter is his battleground.
Recently, during the Onam celebration, a meme-fest was started on Twitter due to Tharoor's action of breaking a coconut. However, the politician took it in his stride and even retweeted some of his favourite memes.

After the cultural programme by Doordarshan Srinagar for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology, I was persuaded to sing for the Members. Unrehearsed and amateur but do enjoy! pic.twitter.com/QDT4dwC6or

He has also been in the news for his impressive vocabulary which leaves everyone scrambling for a dictionary to look up the meaning!
Recently, the MP was in the news for singing an old Hindi song, ‘Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se’. Tharoor also tweeted, saying, "After the cultural programme by Doordarshan Srinagar for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology, I was persuaded to sing for the Members. Unrehearsed and amateur but do enjoy!"
Even though Tharoor thought his performance was 'amateur', his version of the old Hindi song moved people, however, it didn't go well with lyricist Javed Akhtar.
He took a dig at Tharoor's singing skills and also made fun of his accent.
Take a look.
He wrote, "Wow ! We have almost a similar song in Hindi too !!!"

More than 4 Lakh people watched this video, and Akhtar's comment left everyone amused. Singer Srinivas Tweeted, “You just slay it every time Javed saab.” Even Raghu Ram had a good laugh at Akhtar's response.

Desi fans, however, didn't support Akhtar, rather called out his dismissive comment. Instead, they endorsed Tharoor for his confidence.
Javed sir, he must be credited for singing a hindi song being a mallu.
We can't even think of malyalam songs forget about singing.
Very bad Javed Sahab. You are ridiculing Keralites efforts to adopt the National language. After Northern Command of troll army, you are inviting Southern Command also..

But you got to give him his confidence, sporting spirit, and the sheer joie de vivre he has.. marvellous!
How would Javed Akhtar sound if he tried singing an English song sung by Michael Jackson or Elton John ! Definitely would be hilarious ! Shashi Tharoor was atleast enjoyable with his genuine effort !
— rash azi (@rashazi1) September 7, 2021Typical North Indian condescension! Javed Akhtar, I challenge you to sing one song from any South Indian language intelligibly
— CK Jaidev (@ckjaidev) September 6, 2021Not every joke, every witty retort needs to be a personal remark against you, your family, language, religion, etc. Maybe learn to take a joke and stop looking for a fight everywhere? And yes, @ShashiTharoor is a good sport, have to give him that!
— Bharat Ramakrishnan (@bharatpr87) September 6, 2021One comment read, "But you got to give him his confidence, sporting spirit, and the sheer joie de vivre he has.. marvellous!” while another one said, “He sounds sooo cute.. genuine effort real sport!!”
I also thought he was singing some English song
— @sanya (@Uroosahaidar) September 6, 2021Hahaha, that's correct!@ShashiTharoor sang in the " Duguna Lagaan dena padega" language.
— Krishnachandra Sharma (@krishnx) September 6, 2021This led to a long chain of comments.
Shabana Azmi also replied to trolls who tried to umbrage her husband. Reacting to the statement, she wrote, "And all those trolls just chill. Shashi Tharoor is a good friend and Javed’s remark was in pure jest !"

Javed Akhtar is a renowned scriptwriter and lyricist who has worked on some of Bollywood's hits, including Silsila, Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho, Gully Boy etc. Recently, he landed in trouble as he compared the Taliban and RSS. He said both share fascist idealogy, and the Taliban was "more empowered with weapons, but the view, outlook, and ideology are mirroring each other.”
