It has been two and a half years, since the Honorable Supreme Court Of India passed a judgement, saying that certain sections of the draconian Article 377, were unconstitutional.
For a lot of people in the country, especially the LGBTQI+ community, this was a historic moment.
    © BCCL
This judgement ignited hope in the hearts of millions of Indians, that finally, the oppression that they had been subjected to because of their non-conformity to certain skewed perceptions, would finally stop.

That finally, they will have a modicum of respect in society, both as human beings, and more importantly, as individuals.
But has that really happened? Has life for the people from the LGBQTI+ community changed at all since that fateful day back in 2018?
    © BCCL
We asked 5 people to share their lived experiences and their realities to see, whether, that judgement really became that harbinger of change that it was supposed to be:

    1. Troubles With Police - Harsh Sahay, 28 Harsh Sahay says, “I identity as a woman, and this is a concept that perhaps people still don’t completely understand, not because of a lack of trying. I sometimes feel that people just don’t want to think of changing their mindsets, they want to stick to the echo chambers that they have made for themselves.”
    © BCCL
She adds, “I particularly have had several issues with the police. Because of my work in an NGO, I have to deal with the local police on a number of occasions. The looks that I get and the way that I am spoken about is really infuriating. Plus, I need to jump through hoops in order to get a complaint registered with the police.”

    2. Issues With Housing - Shivam Raj, 29Shivam Says “Housing is always a challenge especially if you’re looking for a place as a couple. First of all, not a lot of people are willing to rent out their properties to homosexual couples, whether you speak of gay men or lesbian women. This is especially true in cities in North India, although Kolkata is no better.
    © BCCL
By some miracle, even if you find a landlord that is willing to rent their flats to us, we still have to deal with the RWAs. Most of the time, they will hide their prejudices under the garb of their policy of not allowing bachelors or live-in relationships, but it actually is homophobia.”

    3. Self Validation & Retaliating Back - Angkesh Sarma Bordoloi, 29 © BCCL
"The mindset of the people hasn't changed a lot. Being a queer myself, I have experienced many young guys passing homophobic slurs at me because they think it's unnatural. The word "Hijra" being used as an abuse really pains me.

    © BCCL
The scrapping of Article 377 gave me a voice to retaliate back at those slurs and have made me accept the way I was born. I can now try to educate people with valid points, without feeling myself as a criminal. But like I have always believed, an article can only make a difference if society is educated enough to accept the truth."

    4. Acceptance and Inclusivity - Palash Borah, 27Palash Borah is the CSR Manager for Blued India, a social networking app, that is dedicated to the people of the LGBTQI+ community.
He says, “While the scrapping of section 377 was a great move, the issue of accepting people irrespective of their sexual orientation, caste or religion is still a larger concern. While we have legally taken a step forward - a mindset change is mandatory for all of us.”
    © BCCL
He adds, “ When it comes to acceptance and inclusivity, we have a long way to go. However, it is good to see how brands, social communities and organizations have come forward and have been a strong voice for the community.”

    5. A Stark Difference Between The Law & How Society Sees Us - Parineeta S, 37 © BCCL
Says Parineeta, “Let’s not take away from the fact that there have been some positive changes. We have been able to carve out a legitimate space for ourselves, where we cannot be ignored, and opening up about several issues has become easier. Take the conversation around preferred pronouns as an example. A few years back that was a completely alien concept. So we cannot say that things are still the same.”

She adds, “Moreover, there are several brilliant young minds working as lawyers and key policymakers who will bring about the change that is needed, in due time.”
    © BCCL
She continues, saying, “There is a difference between how the law sees us and how society sees us. We have won on the legal front, and we are winning on the societal front. Sure, things are moving slowly, but things will improve for sure.”

When you think of the most evil villains of Bollywood, only a few names come to mind and one of them is that of Amrish Puri. The legendary actor had the stern, desi dad look, the sadistic smile and an evil look in the eyes whenever he appeared as the 'khalnayak' on the screen.

    © Narsimha Enterprises
He played the bad guy in several movies like Koyla, Nayak and Mr. India (who can forget the iconic Mogambo and his signature dialogue “Mogambo khush hua” which we still use when our mom makes rajma chawal for lunch). However, he also played the good guy; a loving dadaji and the supportive dad in a number of movies too. Yes, he wasn’t always the bad guy.

    © Mukta Arts
Here are 7 of the positive roles done by late actor Amrish Puri which remain as memorable as his iconic negative roles.

    1. Pardes © Mukta Arts
He played Kishorilal in the 1997 romance drama Pardes. An NRI who finds a bride for his son in his friend’s daughter Ganga and supports her when she confesses she is in love with his foster son, Arjun.

    2. Taal  © Mukta Arts
Jagmohan Mehta is a wealthy man who befriends a small-town singer Tara Babu. Although he is reluctant to marry his son with Tara Babu’s daughter, he finally agrees in the end gives them his blessings.

    3. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke © Eros International
Amrish Puri playing the role of Salman Khan’s dadaji in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke is every desi grandfather ever. He hogs on sweets despite being diabetic and uses emotional atyachar to get his grandson to agree to get married.

    4. Mujhse Shaadi Karogi © Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment
The funniest yet unluckiest character in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi is Colonel Dugraj Singh who is always at the wrong place at the wrong time and gets hit by the man who’s trying to woo his daughter. Still, he approves of him in the end.

    5. Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai © Pooja Entertainment
Every guy needs a bade papa like Balram Singh just like Tusshar had in Mujhe kuch Kehna Hai. He not only encouraged Karan to live his life on his terms and make mistakes but also covered for him and saved him from his strict dad.

    6. Chachi 420 © Raaj Kamal Films International
Amrish appeared as the gooey romantic guy in his late 50s who accidentally falls for his son-in-law dressed up as a woman. Him dressing up for her and trying to impress her was the most hilarious part of the movie.

    7. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge © Raaj Kamal Films International
No he wasn’t a villain in DDLJ. He was the typical strict desi dad who wanted his children to follow his rules and marry the person he has decided for them. However, he was loving and gave in to all of Simran’s requests.

Once again, rain has led to the delay in the starting of Day 5 of the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl cricket stadium leading to a further build-up in frustration among the fans of the two sides.
Former England cricketer and one of the more notorious members of the international cricket community, Michael Vaughan used this opportunity to trigger the followers of the Men in Blue by suggesting that Kane Williamson and Co. would have won the match by now had it been played in the northern UK.
If this #worldtestchampionshipfinal been played up north they wouldn’t have missed a minutes play … #Justsaying #INDvsNZ !! NZ would have been champions by now …
    — Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) June 22, 2021
“If this #worldtestchampionshipfinal been played up north they wouldn’t have missed a minutes play … #Justsaying #INDvsNZ !! NZ would have been champions by now …” he wrote on Twitter and as expected, he started getting a lot of negative comments by Indian fans in no time at all.
England would have still been sitting in couch and watching it

No guts to chase 4rpo score on Day-5 with 10 wickets in hand
You deserved the thrashing from NZ
    — ♛¢яι¢кєт𝔏๏ver☂ (@mohan_sachin007) June 22, 2021Yeah, I am sure you did not see India's batting on the first day where it suited best for the seamers though we scored almost 250, somewhere up north would be close to 350+ score
    — Rajen Joshi (@joshirajen) June 22, 2021Give me freedom
    Give me fire
    Give me engagement
    Or I retire without WC

    ~ Michael Vuaghan via dm
    — Bruh ~ The Coconut Seller in California (@imbruhhhh) June 22, 2021Wait a minute England is not even in the final then why are you speaking
Root and Co is still watching the match from the home on the TV #OnOn 🤥🤥
    — Yash 🥵 (@CSKkafan) June 22, 2021This isn’t the first time Vaughan has taken a pot-shot at the Virat Kohli-led side amid the ongoing World Test Championship final. On the very first day of the match, when the rain had already done its damage and favoured the pacers significantly, making it difficult for the batsmen to have any sort of major impact on the scoreboard.
However, instead of looking for rationale, Vaughan chose controversy once again and said that it was the weather that protected the Indians from a terrible defeat.
I see India have been saved by the weather …. #WorldTestChampionship
    — Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) June 18, 2021
Regardless of the fact that it has become clear as day that Vaughan continues to make such provocative statements just to increase engagement on social media accounts, one thing where he does not miss the point is the mess-up on behalf of the International Cricket Council (ICC) who evidently underestimated the uncertainty of the English weather and chose the worst time possible to hold a match of such stature in rain-prone Southampton in June.
Thankfully, Day 5 kicked off, albeit an hour since its scheduled start while the difficulties Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson and his partner Ross Taylor have been going through, shows exactly how demanding the pitch conditions have become against the batsmen and in favour of the pacers and swingers.

In another bizarre story, a man was left heartbroken when he found out that his son was actually his uncle after finding out that his girlfriend was having an affair with his own grandfather.

Recently, TikTok user @stacks1400 had shared in his Tik Tok video that his girlfriend was having an affair with his grandfather while he was living with him.
He said in the video, "Found out my son was really my uncle. My granddad was f***ing my girl the whole time we were staying with him.”
    © Unsplash
The man shared the video along with a caption saying, "Can’t believe I expected more from a man that had a whole other family around the corner from my granny house.”
He was suggesting that his grandfather has a long history of infidelity in the family.
The video has now gone viral on the internet and people are showering their support for him.
A user said, "I'm so sorry for you, I know it seems dark now. Get some time away for yourself. You didn't deserve this, but there is someone else out there for you." Another wrote, "Don't stop loving that young man, it's your time to stand tall in all this. Break the cycle and love that boy, regardless of what title he has."
    © Unsplash
Also, a lot of people asked him how he found out that his girlfriend was cheating on him. So, he posted another video explaining the same. He said he picked up his girlfriend’s phone while she was in the shower and his son was playing. He discovered years worth of messages and pictures including explicit stuff.

He also said, "My dad never liked his dad."
    © Unsplash
Later, he also posted a video saying that he will treat his son as his son and his relationship with his girlfriend wouldn’t change just because they found out about his girlfriend’s affair.

Well, this is one strange and confusing situation. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below!

A transgender activist from Delhi, Rudrani Chettri has opened up about her love story and as we are celebrating Pride Month, her story can instil faith in many people who are struggling to find a place in society.

If you have watched Vikas Khanna’s debut film The Last Color, you must be familiar with Rudrani.
Recently, she shared her love story with Official Humans Of Bombay.
Recalling her first date with Shadab, she said, “On our first date at a coffee shop, Shadab pulled out the chair for me & said, ‘Please baithiye’; I was stunned. I was 38 & had dated a few men before. But no one had done this for me! He asked, ‘Chai or coffee?’ It was a big deal; being a transwoman, I wasn’t used to being treated respectfully.”
Rudrani said Shadab wasn’t like the men she had dated before as he was treating her with the utmost respect. He didn’t come to her with any pre-conceived notions and he genuinely wanted to pursue the relationship without any prejudices.
“Shadab & I met online in 2017. Within a week, he asked me out; I’d agreed reluctantly. In the past, men had only used me for ***; my ex had cheated on me & said, ‘How can one get serious with a woman like you?’ I’d given up on finding a partner. Shadab had recently broken up with his ex too; we connected. I remember bluntly telling him–‘I’m a transwoman’; I knew Shadab was straight. He retorted, ‘For me, you’re a woman,’ I had goosebumps.
But just then, he told me, ‘I’m 21’; we had a 17 year age gap! To top it all, he was a Muslim & I, a Hindu, but Shadab didn’t care,” she said.
    View this post on Instagram
She went to add, “Before parting, he said, ‘It was so nice to meet you!’ After, we met for dates & movies. 2 months later, he said, ‘Would you like to meet my mom?’ I’d expected drama, but Ammi said, ‘Shadab pareshan kare toh mujhe batana.’ That day, I thought, ‘There’s hope after all.’ Even my mom addressed him as ‘Jamai babu’! Over time, he met all my trans friends. After work, he’d help me buy groceries & we’d cook dinner. After a few months, it felt right to move in together.”
They had already moved in together and everything was just perfect for the two. Shadab made it even more special by proposing to her on his knees.
“Once, while we were having dinner, he confessed, ‘I love you.’ I playfully said, ‘You’ll get a reply only if you confess in front of everybody.’ So, on my birthday, in front of all our friends, he went down on one knee & said, ‘Rudrani, I love you!’,” she said.
    View this post on Instagram
She takes pride in the fact that he doesn’t care about societal notions and he always holds her hands whenever they are out in public.
“The best part is that Shadab follows his heart, he doesn’t care what people think. Whenever we go out, he always holds my hand. I ask him, ‘Don’t you care what people might think of you?’ & he says, ‘Hum kisi ke baap ka thodi khate hai? Sabse kyun darna?’,” added Rudrani.
She said that their bond is pure and she doesn’t want to label it with any tag.
“What Shadab & I share is a bond deeper than romance, so, we don’t want to label it with marriage–we’ve been together for 4 years! Today, I’m 42 & he’s 25. Sometimes, I fear things might not be the same 10 years from now. When I tell Shadab, ‘If you fall in love with somebody better, choose her,’ he simply shrugs it off & says, ‘This is for life’,” she concluded.

People are celebrating their love story and calling it a beautiful bond.
They feel their story should reach all those who are finding it hard to come out of their closets because of societal pressures.

The Mi Watch Revolve Active may just be the best smartwatch made for Android smartphones this year and it doesn’t even hurt your bank balance as it only costs Rs 9,999. The latest smartwatch by Mi India comes a few months after the Mi Watch Revolve’s launch focusing more on fitness features and adding new features. The Revolve Active fixes many of the minor problems the previous iteration faced and this time around the company may have found the perfect balance. Here’s what I think about the Mi Watch Revolve Active:
    Design  © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
The Mi Watch Revolve Active doesn’t look much different from the previous iteration as it comes with a round AMOLED touchscreen display and has a sportier look than its predecessor. While I do prefer the more premium design of the Mi Watch Revolve, I’ve grown fond of the Revolve Active’s practical design influences. The Revolve Active has a more matte-type finish as opposed to stainless steel but it doesn’t take away the quality look and feel away from the overall design.

The smartwatch also comes with two buttons that users can use for navigation, launching apps and workout modes. In fact, the second button is dedicated to launching fitness modes on the fly without having to look for it in the menus. Long pressing the home button also launches Alexa which is a great addition to have if you want to get quick information on the fly.
    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
Being a fitness-oriented smartwatch, the Mi Watch Revolve Active is lightweight and comfortable to wear which is not the case with most smartwatches I’ve tested so far. For people who are into customisations, the watch uses a universal lug which means you can swap out the strap with any other compatible strap of your liking.

    Features  © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
The Mi Watch Revolve Active is packed with features you expect a smartwatch to have. It has a heart rate sensor, step counter and other features such as sleep tracking as well. The smartwatch also tracks energy and stress levels, a relevant feature for people who are currently stuck working at home. Speaking of relevant features, the Revolve Active can also do SpO2 readings which I found to be quite accurate. While I still recommend using an oximeter for SpO2 readings, the Revolve Active is a great device to have to get a good idea about your oxygen levels. There was still a difference of 1-2% when compared to results from an Oximeter however it’s still more accurate than many smartwatches and fitness bands.

    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
The Mi Watch Revolve Active also has support for Alexa which you connect via the Xiaomi Wear app. In my testing, the Alexa feature worked quite well. However, it wasn’t as fast as I wanted it to be. The smartwatch still takes a bit of time to process requests, especially if you want to manage your smart home devices. However, it does handle basic commands quite well such as setting alarms, giving weather updates and perform an online search.

    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
The Revolve Active syncs with the Xiaomi wear app and in my opinion, is currently the most reliable health app for a smartwatch on Android right now. All of the data tracked by the smartwatch can also be synced with Google fitness and other third-party apps. The app is fairly easy to operate and offers quite a few customisation options as well. For starters, changing watch faces from the app is very easy and fast. The app also offers quite a few watch faces to choose from. Hopefully, Xiaomi adds more options over time but as of now the variety if quite satisfactory. Having said that, the app does not allow users to create their own watch faces at the moment nor let users combine different complications together. We could see an update in the future that might allow users to customise watch faces however as of now you are stuck with what the app has on offers.

    © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla
Finally, the Revolve Active can last up to 14 days on a single charge as it has a 420 mAh battery. It’s been about 8 days since I’ve been using the smartwatch moderately and I’ve only managed to bring the battery charge down to 46%. Having said that, since I’ve been stuck at home, I have not been able to use the GPS tracking feature which usually drains a lot of battery. If you want to conserve even more battery life, I recommend turning off the always-on mode if you don’t need it while working out or sitting at home.

Fitness Tracking Modes The Revolve Active offers a plethora of fitness tracking modes including classic modes such as outdoor running,  walking, indoor running, treadmill, trekking, outdoor and indoor cycling, pool swimming and freestyle workouts. Xiaomi claims the smartwatch can do more than 117 fitness modes with 17 professional sports modes. Obviously, I didn’t get to try all of them however in my experience it did a great job at tracking indoor cycling and elliptical training.
What I Don’t Like The Mi Watch Revolve Active is still not a complete smartwatch as it lacks many essential features such as calling, texting and other features you would find on a premium smartwatch. The watch doesn’t even have a speaker which means you cannot use it for calls. You can only manage calls i.e. accept or reject them which doesn’t really serve the purpose. Similarly, you can’t even reply to texts which makes it a bit inconvenient to use especially when working out. At the moment, you can’t even use third-party apps apart from controlling music playback on Spotify or any other music app.
The Final Say The Mi Watch Revolve Active may just be one of the best fitness smartwatches to get for Android especially since it only costs Rs 9,999 (Rs 8,499 with offers). It has a plethora of choices for workout modes and has incredible battery life that can last up to 14 days. With relevant tracking features such as SpO2, stress and sleep; the Revolve Active is one step away from becoming a full feature smartwatch. If you’ve been looking for a budget-friendly smartwatch for your smartphone, the Revolve Active is a great option to consider right now.

In the very limited amount of cricket we got to see so far in the World Test Championship Final, pacer and the leader of the Indian bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah’s struggles have been evident.
Not only did he get out on a golden duck when his team needed to put a few runs on the board, but Bumrah also remained wicketless and the most expensive bowler for Virat Kohli ahead of Day 5 of the one-off Test, sparking a great deal of criticism by the followers of the Indian cricket team, who have called him “unfit” to playing in the longest format of the game who is effective only in white-ball cricket.
“I realised what works for me. I am smiling, but the fire inside is burning all the time.”

The evolution of @BCCI star Jasprit Bumrah.#WTC21 pic.twitter.com/1rrathR7Qt
    — ICC (@ICC) June 22, 2021
In a video recently released by the official Twitter handle of the International Cricket Council, Bumrah talked about how he is known to always keep smiling, even when he fails to put up good numbers for the team. He talks about how he used to stay angry when things didn’t go his way when he was younger but has learned to channel all that aggression towards his bowling.
“So basically, what I try to do is, I channelise my anger. When I started as a youngster, I used to get angry left, right and center and I used to do all types of gimmicks which didn't really help my game a lot,” Bumrah says in the video.
    View this post on Instagram
“Over the years I played a lot of international cricket, realised what works for me. So, I am smiling but the fire inside is burning all the time. I don't try to show it all the time but this is the way that helps me to succeed and with that controlled aggression, I try to take my game forward,” he added.
His comments have divided cricket viewers into two very different sections. There are those who feel the “controlled aggression” is nothing more than something he’d wish his fans to believe when in fact, he has run out of tricks on the pitch.
