    Football is serious sport with emotions soaring high, both on and off the pitch. The year 2016 witnessed some of the fierce battles and intense duels between the teams across the globe.
    But, amid all the serious business, the beautiful game also provided us some of the most weirdest, daftest and hilarious moments in 2016.
    So, here's a look at some of the funniest football moments of 2016:
    Injuring the injured
    During the game between Maccabi Herzliya and Maccabi Ahi Nazareth on Saturday, the visiting player Moamen Saleh was the victim of an unfortunate incident after injuring his leg. After being loaded onto a foldout stretcher, the player was then dropped on the ground after one of the medical assistants lost his grip on the handle. The player was then carried off by his captain.
    The linesman who signalled for everything During a League 1 clash between Peterborough and Southend, linesman Matthew Buonassisi appeared to get a little overwhelmed as he signalled for pretty much everything.

    While Cristiano Ronaldo touching Lionel Messi on the leg was last year's iconic photo, this year's Ballon d'Or ceremony witnessed something similar. Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar were snapped at the ceremony earlier this year where the Portuguese captain was seen shaking the hands of Leo's partner Antonella.
    But, it was Neymar's reaction to the handshake that made the photo go viral. As Messi's biggest fan, Neymar is now evidently acting as his surrogate bigger brother.

    Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal might have drawn flak for his unsuccessful tenure at Old Trafford, but the Dutch clearly made us laugh after his epic touchline fall. The incident went viral on social media, instigating a flurry of hilarious memes.

    Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is one of the highly respected figures at Old Trafford. However, the England international made a complete fool of himself in a bizarre teaser for the X-Men: Apocalypse movie in May.
    What starts off as a serious-looking trailer, suddenly gets weird when the actors involved start reeling off Manchester United players as mutants. But the video gets more bizarre when Charles Xavier introduces Rooney as someone with 'intensity' and 'incredible focus'. What?
    Harry Redknapp gets a taste of Jordan
    In 2012, Harry Redknapp seemed certain to land the England coaching job only to be shunned in favour of Roy Hodgson. Four years later and he's finally landed a job in international football. The 69-year-old was appointed the manager of Jordan (the country, not the person) for their next two qualifying matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
    Redknapp's first game as Jordan manager saw his side decimating Bangladesh 8-0. But, it was his post-match interview that got the social media buzzing.

    Arsenal trio of Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Petr Cech featured in one of the most weird advertisements for Europcar. The video shows the three stars missing the matchday team bus - forcing Walcott to rent a car (from Europcar) to get them up to Goodison Park.

    England legends Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard locked horns with 25 children on the football field. The duo showed no mercy and completely destroyed the 25-player team in the LA Galaxy Ridiculous Soccer Challenge.
    What's wrong with Joachim Low
    German fans surely suffered a heartbreak at the Euro 2016 after their team was sent packing by Italy in the semifinals. But, they were in for some serious humiliation after their coach Joachim Low became an unwitting star of the tournament for all the wrong reasons.
    Low was made headlines because of his rather disturbing "personal" habits which became all too public in France. During Germany's 2-0 win against Ukraine, the 56-year-old was not only caught with his hands down his trousers - he was caught having a rummage and then sniffing his fingers. Yuck!

His time at the Anfield came to an end and the 36-year-old joined LA Galaxy to see out his playing days. But, during a game against San Jose Earthquakes in June, the American football club made a funny mistake by misspelling Gerrard's name. Looks like LA Galaxy were too overwhelmed by Gerrard's arrival.

Other than the sheer excitement horror movies bring, they are an excellent way to get that cute girl you’ve brought with you to the movies to cozy up a bit closer! So, the next time you think of planning out a date night and wonder what flick to switch on, try these terrifying tales from 2016.
    1. 31 If you’re up for a gore galore, 31 is exactly what you need! Rob Zombie delivers an excellent horror film with an exciting storyline of 5 carnival workers surviving a madhouse of 31 murderers known as “The Heads” all dressed as clowns (yikes!).  We say the clown factor is enough to stir up our childhood fears, and for some of us, adult fears too! Brace yourself for enough blood and gore to last a few nightmares too!

    2. The Conjuring 2 If you’ve seen the first one then you don’t need us to tell you that this one is one spine-chilling scare after the other! Ed and Lorraine Warren are back to their do-gooder ways of saving poor souls from the malicious and hungry evil spirits that haunt this world. They try and help a single mother raising 4 children on her own in a house filled with creepy spirits and demonic nuns (like we needed another reason not to go to church)! This is one of the best movies of the year, a must watch; only if you’ve got an iron heart though!

    3. Don’t Breathe If you weren’t afraid of the dark before, you’ll surely be now! This flick is about a group of 3 friends that get trapped in a blind mans’ house while trying to break into it. Little did they know that this retired army veteran has a few secrets of his own… the kind that can’t get out. A gripping and twisty storyline gives you such a thrill that you’ll find yourself holding your own breath along with the main characters! Add it to your Christmas list!

    4. Hush Silence is golden, but not in this heart pounding thriller! Maddie Young has lost her hearing in her teen years and is now living in the woods, absolutely secluded from society. Unfortunately, her peaceful world turns terrifyingly twisted when a masked psychopath decides to make her his new plaything. This movie is petrifying in a special way, and with an unexpected twist of the hunter underestimating his prey.

    5. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies We all know the classic tale being re-told here, but wait, did we say zombies? Women in beautiful 19th century dresses, corsets, high riding stockings and don’t forget the samurai swords! The lovely ladies on screen are entangled in a love story between social classes while simultaneously being completely bad-ass while kicking some zombie butt! We say any original idea when it comes to zombie movies is a welcome thought, so check this one out!

    6. Lights Out After watching this supernatural horror flick, you’ll be thinking twice the next time you decide to turn the lights off. It follows the story of a young woman who discovers that her half brother is having trouble at home, so she pays him a visit. He lives with her mother, who seems to be extremely troubled by what at first seems to be a mental condition, but to your and our horror (and pleasure) we find out there is a lot more to the situation than meets the eye. Check this flick out, but make sure you’re sitting in a dark room, with enough shadows to tickle your mind.

    7. The Purge: Election Year This movie is the 3rd part of a series that has definitely got something to say, politically. It shows us exactly how terrifying human beings and our minds can really be. It definitely had some satire due to the political angle of it since we all know how certain entities have emerged recently, willing to do whatever it takes to “Make America Great Again”. If you wondered what it would be like to give in to the absolute human desire to kill our enemies, then you must, must, must watch this film.

    8. Ouija: Origin Of Evil If you weren’t completely sold with the first one, we believe you should give the second one a chance. They completely turned the game around with a genuinely scary and dramatic sequel in which an innocent game of Ouija turns horribly wrong. We’ve all played it, some of us might indulge in a little talking to the dead after a few drinks, so check this flick out and we’re sure you’re hands will be shaking the next time you venture to do so.

    The wedding season for Indian cricketers doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. After Yuvraj Singh and Ishant Sharma, the rumours of Virat Kohli's engagement to Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma surfaced on the 30th of December.
    But, while Kohli snubbed the reports labelling them as false rumours, his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate Sachin Baby announced his marriage plans in a unique manner.
    The Kerala cricketer will get married to his girlfriend, Anna Chandy, at the St. Sebastian's Church in Thodupuzha on 5 January, 2017. But, it was the way he proposed to Anna that clearly stands out.
    Sachin proposed to Anna on a cricket field after she rattled his leg-stump on a loopy delivery. The duo, who were seen donning RCB jerseys, shot a beautiful video to announce their wedding.

    The video begins with Sachin putting on his cricket gear before going out to bat. On the green field, Anna is seen waiting for Sachin with a ball in her hand. As Sachin takes guard, Anna starts her run-up and then bowls a loopy delivery to bowl Sachin out.
    After Sachin's dismissal, Anna celebrates the wicket as they head towards each other for a loving embrace.
    Anna is a BDS graduate and currently preparing for Civil Service Examination. The duo began dating in 2014.
    Sachin has been prolific in the Ranji Throphy this season. While playing for Kerala, the left-hander has scored 624 runs including a hundred and five fifties.

    The Boxing Day Test between Australia and Pakistan witnessed a similar incident where a fan's love for India's limited-overs skipper, MS Dhoni, prevailed in unfamiliar territory.

    Dhoni surely enjoys solid support anywhere India plays but it was heartening to see Dhoni's fan professing his admiration for the Indian captain during Pakistan's clash with Australia.
    The incident also highlighted the fact the even rivals can have mutual respect for each other despite everything.

    If you fear standing in a never ending line to get a passport, or you lost your birth certificate and you always thought applying for one would be a hassle, then this is a wave of surprise for all Indians. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a revamped rule list for applying for a passport, and guess what? They are pretty sorted and looks incredibly efficient. Here is what you need to know:
    1. Proof of date of birth - Earlier every applicant who was born after 26th January 1989, had to submit a legal birth certificate. The change in the rules will allow eight different documents which can be submitted as proof of birth. These will include:
    a. Birth certificates issued by the Municipal Corporation that is responsible for registering the births and deaths of everyone in the country.
    b. PAN card issued by the IT department which has the DOB mentioned.
    c. Aadhar card
    d. School leaving certificate/ mariculation certificate/ transfer certificate issued by any registered educational institute which mentions the DOB of the applicant.
    e. Driving licence issued by the transport Department.
    f. Policy bonds issued by the LIC/ any recognised insurance company.
    g. Election ID 
    h. Pay Pension Order of retired govt. servants and a copy of service record for govt servants which are duly attested by the Administration in charge.

    2. A decrease in the number of annexes - The Passport Rule of 1980 had 15 annexes which have now been trimmed down to 9. You can now provide annexes which are self-attested and not attested by any Notary/Magistrate. 
    a. Married applicants will not be required to provide any marriage certificate.
    b. Orphaned children, who have no registered proof of birth, can now submit a declaration signed by the head of the Orphanage on the official head, which will act as a confirmation of DOB.
    c. For in-country adopted children, parents will no longer be required to submit the adoption deed, and can submit a self attested declaration.
    d. In the cases of children who are born out of wedlock, applicants need to submit Annexure G.
    e. Sadhus/Sanyasis can mention the name of their ‘Guru’ in lieu of their biological parents along with a registered ID where the name of the guru has been mentioned.
    f. Govt employees who do not have a NOC from their employers and need to get the passport on urgent basis can submit a self declaration explaining that they have submitted a prior intimation letter to his employer.

    3. Name of only one parent/guardian is required - Earlier, it was imperative to mention the names of both parents but now the online passport application form has the provision of mentioning just one name as well. This is a great step for single parents. The passport form does not require you to mention the name of your spouse in case of a separation or a divorce. You do not even have to provide the divorce decree.

    Bollywood has had a good year. Besides brilliant films, it gave us some great music to listen to, and on loop. While movies like ‘Airlift’ and ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ gave us beautiful romantic numbers to add to our playlists, ‘Dangal’ gave us that perfect inspirational number to get us going through those painful workout sessions. We compiled a list of the best songs Bollywood saw this year that will be on our playlists for a long time. 
    1. Kala Chashma – Baar Baar Dekho The song that became the wedding anthem of 2016, ‘Kala Chashma’ was an instant hit. The original version of the song has been popular since forever, and Badshah’s version, coupled with Katrina’s super toned abs, just made it go ‘higher’! 
    2. Ikk Kudi – Udta Punjab Amit Trivedi’s ‘Ikk Kudi’ was a moving number that wove magic in the film and added heart to Alia’s powerful performance. Originally sung by Shahid Mallya, the song had two other equally beautiful versions, sung by Diljit Dosanjh and Ali Bhatt. 
    3. Channa Mereya – Ae Dil Hai Mushkil One of the most soulful songs of the year, ‘Channa Mereya’ acquired a permanent place on our list of favourite songs. With music by Pritam, lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and vocals by Arijit Singh, the song that appeared at an emotional point in the movie, left many misty-eyed. 
    4. Soch Na Sake – Airlift An incredibly soul-stirring composition, ‘Soch Na Sake’ remained one of the most requested songs on radio this year. With Amaal Mallik, Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar providing the vocals, and Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur playing out a mellow mature love story, the song could melt the coldest of hearts. The original version, sung by Hardy Sandhu and with lyrics by Jaani, was equally moving. 
    5. Chitta Ve – Udta Punjab You can’t help but experience an adrenaline rush listening to this absolutely trippy number from ‘Udta Punjab’. Amit Trivedi really created a heady tune with this one. 
    6. Jag Ghoomeya – Sultan Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s melodious voice lent magic to this number that had Salman create a trademark dance step that, by the way, is not as easy as it looks. 
    7. Teri Khair Mangdi – Baar Baar Dekho Love is back and how! The pain of heartbreak and the beauty of true love is so well brought out in this song, you’d listen to it on loop. Hat-tip to Bilal Saeed for the music and vocals. 
    8. Dariya – Baar Baar Dekho The kind of song that makes you well up with emotions. Going back to the beautiful Punjabi folk songs that talked of lovers separated, this one folds in itself the warmth and comfort of real love. Arko, the singer-lyricist-composer of the song, has done a great job.
    9. Tere Sang Yaara – Rustom One of those songs for which you love Bollywood. Atif Aslam’s voice and Arko’s music work beautifully together to create this romantic number that remained among the most loved songs this year. 
    10. Kar Gayi Chull – Kapoor & Sons   It became the ultimate party song this year, as Badshah, Fazilpuria, Sukriti Kakar and Neha Kakkar went wild with this one.  Alia and Sidharth’s sparkling chemistry made sure the song raised temperatures at every party. 
    11. Bolna – Kapoor & Sons So many beautiful love songs this year, we can’t decide which is the best! ‘Bolna’ from ‘Kapoor & Sons’ is sheer love. Arijit Singh and Asees Kaur render the song magical with their melodious voices. 
    12. Nashe Si Chadh Gayi – Befikre We couldn’t have a headier tune this year! Vishal-Shekhar’s music, Arijit’s vocals and Jaideep Sahni’s lyrics, coupled with Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor’s ‘befikre’ antics, make this song totally addictive. Gotta stop listening to it on loop now. 
    13. Kaun Tujhe – M.S. Dhoni -The Untold Story Sung beautifully by singers Palak and Amaal Mallik, this one is a tear-jerker. Try not to fall in love with Disha Patani after listening to it. 
    14. Humma Humma – OK Jaanu We love AR Rahman’s legendary ‘Humma Humma’ so much that we love the remix version too. Though we’d prefer the original over the remix any day, Badshah’s reinvention is not bad. Old wine in new bottle, we’d say. 
    15. Dhaakad – Dangal After ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, this is our song for all the fitness inspiration we need. Terrific lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and sung by Raftaar, this one is a breath of fresh air that will leave you with a lump in the throat. 
    16. Itni Si Baat Hain – Azhar Yet another beautiful love song on our list, Pritam and Arijit Singh manage to create magic again. 
    Special mention: 
    Afreen Afreen Although not Bollywood, Coke Studio’s version of ‘Afreen’ was just too good to be left out. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan created magic with the song two decades ago and immortalized it as one of the best songs ever. Coke Studio reinvented it with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Momina Mustehsan, and the result was as beautiful. Gotta play it on repeat. Happy new year to you all!

There’s also a festive carnival at the Victoria Falls that is not one to be missed as it includes a carnival-themed train and live music that is every bit worth your time. New Year’s Day is all about the local beaches and the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival. Never a day that’s dull!

    Samsung has taken a huge leap forward as they introduced their latest offering from their wearable portfolio - The Samsung Gear Fit2. The band falls somewhere between a full-fledged fitness band and a smartwatch.

    DESIGN AND STYLE The Gear Fit2 certainly seems like an upgrade from its predecessor and the addition of a new textured strap has given it the extra edge it needed. It's stylish and sporty at the same time and does the job better than any other wrap around activity band.
    The band has a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display, which is slightly curved and is similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge's Super AMOLED screen design philosophy. The new iteration also has a colour touchscreen and the display is brighter, crispier and can display 322 pixels per inch, which is very impressive if you compare it to other fitness bands. 

    Just like Samsung's Fitness Band, the band's Super AMOLED is scratchproof since it was manufactured using Corning Gorilla Glass 3. I use the band very rigorously in the gym and keep bumping into weights and machines, which reaffirmed this claim since it is still, scratch and crack proof 20 days later. It is also water resistant which means you can wash your hands and spill drinks without any worry, but it is not advisable to take it for a swim. Its curved design and rectangular form makes it easier to sit on my wrist, and is much sleeker than a round smartwatch.
    The Gear Fit2 also comes with more colour options i.e. you can choose from black, blue or pink. You can even choose the different types of watch faces according to your preference, which makes it very customisable. We liked the new colours and the fact that it's really comfortable to wear, thanks to the curved design. Performance is very snappy too, thanks to a fast processor and 512MB RAM. 
    STEP COUNTING AND HEART RATE TRACKER Most bands these days have the tendency to track your activity automatically. The Gear Fit2 has the capability to track your steps, heart rate, sleep and calories burnt, which is already the norm in most bands. But what stands out is that the Gear Fit2 can automatically detect various exercises such as running, walking, cycling, rowing machine and the elliptical machine. There are countless options to pick from which makes the Gear Fit2 the most comprehensive activity band by Samsung yet. 

    The Fit2 effectively tracks your inactivity as well, for example, it tracks data when you are sitting on your office desk or just moving about in your room. If you are inactive for  about 15 to 20 minutes , the band will vibrate and give you a nudge to get yourself moving. This is a neat feature by the the Gear Fit2 which helps in motivating lazy people like me.  
    The Gear Fit2 shows a linear progression of your activity for the past day. For example, it will show you when you were inactive, exercising, sleeping and even when you did not have the Fit 2 on at all. 
    You also have the option to feed in your water and caffeine intake with the Samsung Fit2. While you need to manually feed in your data into the app that is already present on the Fitness Band this is a very handy feature if you are trying to keep a watch on your water and caffeine intake. 
    The heart rate sensor kicks in every 10 minutes but if you are already tracking an exercise, for example running, the heart rate sensor will continuously track your heart rate. The heart rate tracking is steady and gives you very accurate results as you can expect from a premium fitness band.
    CAPABILITIES The Fit2 has a GPS sensor inbuilt and can detect you on the go. Unlike other bands, you won't need your phone to track your coordinates and distance. It even shows you a map, which is clearly visible and can show up in detail thanks to the 1.5-inch Super AMOLED Screen. 

    If you are tracking a particular activity, you can pick a goal for that specific workout. These goals can differ as per your preference. You can set goals such as duration, your pace, distance travelled or calories burnt. You also have the option of not having any goals if you are an intermediate fitness freak. 

    These goals can vary from asking you to warm up to slow down or pick up the pace during your run. You will have to pick a pre-determined coaching module based on your goal. 
    If you are tracking activities like abs exercises, burpees or lunges, it will give you a total count of your repetitions and also give you directions/instructions on the screen to assist you if you are doing the exercise incorrectly. There are 15 other exercise modes that can be tracked once selected and it can all be managed via the S health app. 

    The Gear Fit2 is packed with many coaching modules for running that can coach you as you as go along with your exercise. 
    The Gear Fit2 also acts as an effective fitness tracker as well where you can use the touchscreen to access and control the music player on your phone. You can load up music on the Gear Fit2 and curate playlists to coincide with your exercise. The Gear Fit2 acts like a full blown mp3 player where you can browse tracks, albums and artists. 

    The notifications from your phone will display promptly on the Fit2. Swiping right on the home screen will let you access all the notifications that you have received. The notification screen also has various shortcuts to other apps. If you feel you are being bombarded by too many notifications, you can always cover the screen with your palm, which will turn off the Super AMOLED screen until you wake it next. The Gear Fit2 has a set of horizontal-scrolling "home screens" of sorts, with each one corresponding to a built-in function.
    Every smartphone notification can be viewed and managed on the Gear Fit2 and have all necessary options such as accepting and rejecting calls. You can access and reply to emails and messages from any of the popular instant messaging apps, with pre-installed emojis if you like to get more expressive.
    Additionally, if you are like me who likes to see limited notifications like emails and WhatsApp messages, you can even pick and choose which apps are allowed to send you notifications and which ones you would like to blacklist; this makes the Fitness Band less intrusive than others. In Gear Manager you can hit all of the big tasks you wouldn't want to manage just on the Fit2, and a few others that you can do on the Fit2 but are easier on a big screen. You can manage which apps can send notifications to the Fit2, change your quick message replies, switch and customize watch faces, change the layout of apps, and install more apps when they become available.
    The Gear Fit2 has been part of my life for weeks and it has had a positive impact on my activity schedule. In the past 2-3 weeks, the band stored my data of the number of steps I took; exercise data, the number of floors I climbed and I could access it all on the fitness band itself without ever having to reach for my phone. 
    The Gear Fit2 has a new exceptional feature that is not present on most fitness bands. It can connect over WiFi to any android phone and still function as a band even if you are at different locations. For example, you can leave your phone at home (while connected to the home WiFi) and go to your local gym and still get notifications on your band while you are at the gym. The Gear Fit2 needs to be connected to a WiFi network in order for this to work. Once connected to a WiFi network, it uses your Samsung account to receive notifications, which means that the two devices don't need to be connected to the same network or even be in the same building. The Gear Fit2 will even receive notifications if your phone is using mobile data, as long as the Gear Fit2 is connected to a Wi-Fi network. 
    If you are the type who sweats a lot and don't really want to use the touchscreen, for ease of access, the Gear Fit2 also has two buttons i.e. a back button and a home button. You can access all the apps via the home button and choose by swiping up or down to select an option.

    THE FINAL SAY The Gear Fit2 is probably the most accurate and functional fitness band by Samsung with various capabilities that are perfect for an avid fitness nut as well a regular health conscious person. The band will get as serious as you want it to be. The Smartwatch-Fitness Band hybrid is stylish and is meant for people who want an additional accessory for their Android phone. The S Health Ecosystem works cohesively with the band and gives a detailed analysis of your progress. Currently, the Gear Fit2 is only compatible with Android Phones, which is the only drawback that bothered us. However, the Gear Fit2 works best with a Samsung phone. Priced at INR 13,990, it really does blow the Fitbit Surge out of the water and this is the fitness band every consumer should want.
