Can someone please fast forward life on earth by a couple of years? Hrithik Roshan ‘kind of’ admitted that there would be a ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ sequel in the future and it’s a completely understandable reason to lose your shit, in my opinion.

Because, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ is one of the best Bollywood films ever. Not even kidding. ZNMD just doesn’t stop! The film released 6 years ago and that’s almost impossible to believe because…didn’t you watch it again just last weekend?

Drama, romance, serious friendship goals and a much needed travel bucket list update – ZNMD has been the ultimate dream for this generation. And now there’s news there’s going to be a sequel for it. And while we know sequels rarely live up to the hype, WE’RE STILL FRIKKIN’ EXCITED BECAUSE IT’S ZN-FUCKING-MD.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Hrithik Roshan dropped this not-so-low-key hint. "I am aware of that, but not many film-makers can make such movies. So, I have to call Zoya once more, and say, ‘Please write something, and if you think I am good enough, please cast me in your film (smiles)’. I guess I will have to beg her. But I think it [the sequel] will happen maybe three to four years from now." YES, HE JUST CONFIRMED IT.

3-4 years is too long though. Think filing a petition to have it made sooner might help? Count me in!

Kane Williamson’s shirt in the first T20 international against Bangladesh seemed a bit odd. Instead of Williamson, it read Willamson and even though somebody definitely screwed up the name print, the New Zealand captain saw the lighter side of things in it.
    You had one job pic.twitter.com/G5fT4ZAYCe
    — BeigeHQ (@BeigeBrigade) January 3, 2017 He took to twitter to explain why it could have been misspelled. This is what he tweeted.
My shirt says 'WILLAMSON' tonight because there's no i in team. Apart from the first i because that's my name. I'm still working on it
    — Kane Williamson (@NotNossy) January 3, 2017 Williamson, who scored a quick fire 73 in the game, also had a sure shot plan to get rid of this typo ridden shirt.
If there is a Will Mason in the crowd who doesn't mind a typo in his name, he's most welcome to my shirt at the conclusion of the game
    — Kane Williamson (@NotNossy) January 3, 2017 Is it just me or does this guy have a great sense of humor?

It’s almost been 12 years since celebrities such as SRK Preity Zinta, Rani mukherjee, Saif Ali Khan, Priyanka Chopra and many others went around Europe for the ‘The Temptations Tour’ of 2004.
    © Twitter
2004 was pretty much Shah Rukh’s year as he gave us our favourites like ‘Swades’, ‘Veer Zara’ and ‘Main Hoon Na’. While our hearts were definitely set on fire by Shah Rukh and Preity’s onscreen chemistry in ‘Veer Zara’, this video is reminiscent of their cute friendship.
    © Twitter
While on tour, they not only won everyone’s hearts around the world but also shared with us many memorable pictures and videos.
Here is a video of that tour in which all the actors joined hands with Shah Rukh in playing a prank on one of their crew members over some technicality issue. The poor guy is bombarded with angry remarks from Shah Rukh, as well as the other actors but as always SRK doesn’t fail to give us a happy ending.

Here’s some news, all you Salman Khan fans, that will definitely take you by surprise! After earning the title of ‘Sultan’ of Bollywood with his last film, looks like Salman Khan has decided to experiment with his on screen image!
    © YRF
Remo D’Souza has roped in Bhai in for his next venture. Yes, you guessed it right, a dance film. Salman Khan would be playing a trained dancer in the film and while that’s as exciting as it is scary, that’s not even the big news! Salman Khan would be seen playing a father to a 13-year-old girl in the film. The film revolves around an ageing dancer and his daughter.
"In my next, I'm playing the father to a 13-year-old girl. It's a film about dancing. Like the Hollywood Step Up franchise. I'm going to be a properly trained dancer. You know how painful that is? But I've always believed that effortless hard work should be seen on-screen," Salman revealed recently.
    © BCCL
Given how predictable Salman Khan’s choice of roles is, this project does come as a surprise. The last time Salman Khan played a father was 18 years ago in ‘Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai’, just FYI.
    © YouTube
Salman Khan’s dance moves, however much eccentric they may look, have always been iconic, be it ‘O O Jaane Jana’ from ‘Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’ to ‘Hudd Hudd Dabangg’. And now with Remo D’Souza’s expertise in dancing, we’re really looking forward to watching Salman Khan get professional dancing right!
    © YouTube
“Salman listens to the choreographer, then, goes ahead and does his own steps, so it's going to be a lot of lessons for him this time," this piece of information shared by a source close to the makers of the film worries us a bit though, to be honest.
Looks like this one’s either going to be a blockbuster or a major disappointment!

No matter how wise you become, no matter how much you’ve grown up, the heart wants what it wants. And there’s little you can do to feel otherwise.
Loving comes easy, so does forgetting. It’s the thing in between, the transition from the former to the latter that wrings the heart the hardest. Moving on is the hardest. Accepting that someone you loved with all your heart, someone you chose to bare your soul to is now a stranger is the hardest. Living with the fact that it’s over is the hardest.
    © Unsplash
You know you’ll get over it one day, you’ve been through this before. People you once loved with all your heart, people you thought you couldn’t live without are now just faint memories and blurred faces. And that’s the saddest thing. For the most beautiful fragments of your life to fade into nothingness. You don’t carry much of it with you. Every time someone leaves, they take with them, a piece of you. And leave behind a hollow you, a void you learn to unsee with time, but a void nonetheless.
    © Unsplash
You know things will never be the same. You know all this pining won’t get them back. Your longing will eventually wear out. You’ll give up. And to give up would mean to accept that it wasn’t meant to be, that it couldn’t be even if it was meant to be. That moment is when you know it really is over and there’s nothing sadder than that. You come out a changed person, whether or not you like it. They tell you you’ve come out of it stronger and you mistake your numbness for strength, because it helps you sleep at night. The chapter’s closed, and a little bit of you shall always be trapped inside, a little bit of you the world will soon make you forget.
    © Unsplash
You’ll look back and belittle your own love by calling it ‘immature and stupid’. Years later, you’d still wonder what if? What if they returned only to find you gone? What if you held on for just a little longer? What if you didn’t let go? You’d never know the answer.
    © Unsplash
Moving on means to start over. Starting over takes effort and courage. It means to be alone, whether or not you want to be. It means to gather all the pieces, put them back together and still live with the uncertainty of it falling apart again. Moving on means to ready yourself to love someone new, to prepare yourself to be feel that headrush again and also the possibility of being pushed into the abyss all over again.
    © Unsplash
We don’t fear moving on because we think we cannot. We fear it because we know we can. We fear that one day none of this matter. And that’d hurt. So, we cling on to whatever of it because we’d rather hide in the ruins than build a whole city again.

If you think there isn’t anything as spectacular as the ‘Aurora Borealis’, wait till tonight to witness this year’s first meteor shower, which will change your perception forever. The universe never ceases to surprise us with its beauty and today we will get to witness this extremely rare comet passing the Earth.
    © Twitter
You can watch the Quadrantid Meteor shower, also said to be one of the best meteor showers, at its peak on the 3rd and 4th of January. It actually depends on which part of the world you are located in. For instance, people in India and Asia can witness the peak of the shower at approximately around 7:30 PM tonight (14:00 UTC).
What's Up for January? A comet, plus the moon, Venus, Mars and Quadrantid Meteor shower ring in the new year! Video: https://t.co/0WLgGO17Zn pic.twitter.com/lizVISq2AX
    — NASA (@NASA) January 1, 2017 Reportedly, it is believed that the annual meteor shower is triggered by the Earth when it passes through the tail of rubble that follows asteroid 2003 EH1. When those pieces of debris and space dust burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere, as many as 100 shooting stars appear per hour. Also, unlike other meteors, the peak viewing time for the Quadrantid Meteor shower is said to be nearly 2 to 3 hours.

Politics, especially Indian politics, sees a lot of mud-slinging, cold wars, potshots being hurled and a general air of hostility. Clearly, it is hardly a place for friendships. At a time when leaders of opposition parties don’t even see face-to-face and even a father-son relationship is not untouched by the dirty hand of politics, the two-minute jam session of these ministers from Shillong hits you like a breath of fresh air.
    © Facebook
Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Leader of Opposition Dr Donkupar Roy, and United Democratic Party’s working president Paul Lyngdoh, looked like the perfect boy band when they grooved to the Beatles’ classic ‘All My Loving’ at the wedding of Mukul Sangma’s eldest daughter. Cabinet minister Prestone Tynsong, standing towards the left, does a perfect job cheering them on with his cool dance moves.

Shillong overflows with talent when it comes to music. The ‘Rock Capital’ of India has some really talented music groups like the famous Shillong Chamber Choir that has made its mark on the music scene in India. And the politicians are not far behind either – turns out that Paul Lyndoh is a poet himself and has been part of a music band. CM Sangma too is a talented singer and was part of a music band in college.
We wonder what our politicians at the Centre think about this. Sab mile hue hain?

WhatsApp is probably the most popular and most used instant messaging platform since it launched. It has over one billion active users and has dominated the messaging app industry ever since. It was earlier reported by the company that it would end support for some older phones that are running Android 2.2 Froyo and below, iPhones that are running iOS 6 and below and Windows 7 phones.
    © WhatsApp
It was decided that the Facebook-owned company would end support for these phones on December 31st and they have stuck to their word. One must also take into account that these phones only accounted a mere 0.1 percent of the market share.
    © YouTube
WhatsApp was supposed to terminate support for some Blackberry and Nokia Symbian phones however they later decided to provide support for an additional six months i.e. till 30th June 2017. In order to make the transition smooth for everyone, WhatsApp is asking users to upgrade their phone so that they can still enjoy services.
If you are still using an older handset, we suggest you either upgrade the OS or your phone altogether if you still want to keep in touch with your loved ones.

Note: This is Kanav Puri's story, who is also the author for the same.

It finally struck me hard one day when I met my friends after 6 years for a college reunion, and my friend dared me to complete 10 pushups in one go. I accepted the offer but to my disbelief, I could not even do more than 3 pushups. This wrecked me emotionally and mentally. Over the next few weeks, I started avoiding meeting people in large masses and almost always squirmed by way out to avoid my old friends and relatives. It was a tough time. I had two options, I could either to sulk and be content with this look or to fight back for a healthier me. Being a fighter, I accepted the challenge head on.

I was around 215 pounds (97 kgs). With persistence and dedication, I dropped 50 pounds (22.5 kgs) and went from having a beer belly to a rugged 6 pack. To be honest, the first few days were not easy. It was more of a mental block than anything else. I kept my head straight and started focusing more on the positive aspects. To keep myself engrossed, I started reading articles and scientific journals on topics such as macro nutrients, the digestive tract to advanced topics such as nutrition partitioning and metabolic syndrome.

As I learned about the imperativeness of nutrition, I started applying it to my daily lifestyle. Being overweight with 27% BF (body fat), I reached 9% BF in 3.5 months with the right nutrition and a solid workout plan. Throughout this journey, I changed many diets. I started by limiting the intake of carbohydrates from my daily meals to a more moderate intake of proteins and a majority of healthy fats. As I lost a ton of weight, I started introducing carbs in my diet to get lean gains. The progression of my carbohydrate intake increased gradually with intake of fats going down. The supplements I used were-

    1) Whey – a great and handy source for protein
    2) Creatine Monohydrate – a supplement for muscle mass and strength gains
    3) BCAA- Branched Chain Amino Acids-to simulate protein synthesis.
I now feel more confident, animated and jovial. Soon, I realized that I really loved fitness and nutrition. I continued my journey and became a NESTA Certified Fitness Nutrition Coach and American Red Cross Certified Adult CPR and AED. There were days I felt like giving up or didn't want to get up, but I stayed focused with discipline and patience. That became my motto and still is. With discipline, patience, and focus, you can do anything. My message to the avid readers is if I can do it, so can you. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!

For someone who enjoyed driving in the fast lane, Michael Schumacher, statistically the best F1 driver, met with a horrible accident in a cruel twist of fate, on 29th December in 2013, while skiing. The accident left him in a vegetative state and the F1 champion has been recuperating at his home, family by his side, for a while now.
    © Reuters
A young Michael Schumacher began karting at the junior level and won his first club championship at the age of just six. His father, Rolf Schumacher, in order to support his racing took on a second job of renting and repairing karts and his mother worked at the track’s canteen. When Schumacher later won his first paycheck of 20,000 Euros in prize money, he put it all in a suite case and gave it to his father.
    © Facebook
Schumacher made his debut for the Jordan Formula One team before joining Benetton Formula One team in 1991. He, however, had to struggle for three years before winning the first Drivers’ Championship in 1994. Schumacher repeated the feat in 1995 before moving on to Ferrari in 1996.
Everybody remembers Schumacher’s most productive period at Ferrari from 2000-2004, winning five consecutive championships in process, although he came very close to winning two other titles in 1997 and 1998 and the unfortunate turn of events in 1999 where he broke his leg in British Grand Prix, ending his title dreams.
    © Reuters
One of the most authoritative voices in auto sports, author Christopher Hilton said in 2003 that "A measure of a driver's capabilities is his performance in wet races, because the most delicate car control and sensitivity are needed." And therefore, like every legendary F1 driver, Schumacher was at his best on wet tracks. He won 17 of the 30 races he raced in wet conditions. Schumacher also earned the title of Regenmeister (Rain Master) because of his heroics in such conditions.
    © Reuters
Such was his popularity all over the world that by the time he retired in 2006, three of the top ten drivers in Formula one came from Germany, which was a fringe sport just a decade back. Although he came back to the sport later in 2010, it was that golden period for almost half a decade at Ferrari that Schumacher is most remembered for.
    © Reuters
In December, 2013, Schumacher while skiing with his 14-year-old son had a horrible accident in the French Alps. His head hit a rock on the down slope and the F1 hero was put in a medically induced coma. After battling through the injury for almost six months Schumacher showed “moments of consciousness” in June 2014. He, however, remains in a wheel chair struggling with memory problems now and considering the extent of his injuries at impact in 2013, Schumacher will need a lot of time before he can make a public appearance in the near future.
Keep fighting Michael, because your story deserves a much better ending than this one!

Forget farmers of Vikarabad district, 90km from Hyderabad, who clandestinely grow ganja amid a sprawl of paddy to feed the Mumbai drug circuit, here's a peddler in the heart of the capital, who harvests the crop in his two-bedroom flat to give addicts their high. And he does it with scientific precision under controlled temperatures to allow cannabis to flower from seed with video tips from an American friend.
    @hydcitypolice arrested a 33 year old for cultivating Ganja/Cannabis/weed/marijuana in his 3BHK flat. #Hyderabad ? pic.twitter.com/XAmvmgQO6z
    — Ashish (@Ashi_IndiaToday) January 2, 2017 The ingenious weed peddler, Syed Shahed Hussain, 33, is a former bank employee and operates from a flat at Friends Colony in Manikonda. His luck ran out when Special Task Force personnel raided the apartment and seized plants, but was awe-struck with facilities, including humidifiers and LED lights to provide the right ambience. Shahed was caught in the act while selling ganja to customers at Golconda on Sunday night.
    © BCCL
Shahed has a bachelor's degree in psychology and has been staying at a rented flat at YK Residency in Friends Colony, Manikonda, for the past three months. He lives with his family in the flat. Acting on a specific tip-off, the Task Force team kept vigil at Jeeshan Cafe near Banjari Darwaza on Aljapur Road of Golconda on Sunday evening and caught 33-year-old weed peddler, Syed Shahed Hussain selling the drug.
When police raided his flat, they found 40 ganja plants neatly placed in flower pots in two rooms. "Shahed installed ACs in both rooms to maintain a moderate temperature. He also kept LED lights above the plants to maintain natural light-like situation and kept table fans in swing mode to give them sufficient air," said Task Force additional deputy commissioner of police (DCP) N Koti Reddy .
    © Reuters
Shahed, who was addicted to ganja since his teens, began peddling drug for past few years. Police found that he would purchase ganja from suppliers in Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and Tandur areas for `3,500 a kilo and sell it to customers in Hyderabad for `16,000 a kilo.
Later, Shahed hit upon the idea of growing narcotics at home to raise profit and contacted his US-based friend Garith Christopher. "Based on Garith's advice, Shahed went through videos online and learnt the art of ganja cultivation. He purchased necessary material locally and started cultivation on a trial basis," said Task Force sub-inspector G Mallesh, who participated in the raid.
    © Reuters
Shahed did not leave anything to chance and took care about healthy growth of his prized saplings. From the flat, police seized sacks of soil, which Shahed procured from Agency areas in Visakhapatnam and Karnataka, known for marijuana cultivation.
Shahed moved into the flat three months ago to grow ganja on trial basis and would not allow outsiders to visit the house. He was handed over to Golconda police for investigation.

Krishna Poonia will always be remembered for her gold medal throw of 61.51 metres in the women's discus final at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Poonia's exploits also earned her the civilian honour of Padma Shri in 2011. But, among some of her creditable laurels, Poonia's latest heroics will arguably be the one she'll be remembered for, for a long time to come.
The Indian discus thrower was in Rajasthan's Churu district waiting in her car at a railway crossing when she spotted three motorcyclists harassing two young girls on the New Year's Day.
While majority of the bystanders were mere witnesses to the shambolic act, Poonia immediately sprung into action. The 6-feet-1-inch tall athlete got out of her car to rescue the frightened girls.
    © BCCL
As Poonia walked towards the spot, the two girls narrated their ordeal and broke down in tears. The girls informed the Indian athlete that some boys were passing lewd comments and leering at them.
Apparently, when the hoodlums saw a tall muscular woman walking towards them, they attempted to flee on their bike. But, Poonia was not the one to let the perpetrators go unpunished.
The 39-year-old didn't just chase the boys but also managed to catch hold of one of the accused, while other two managed to flee.
    © BCCL
“When I saw those two girls being harassed, I thought that they could well have been my daughters. That made me go after the men,” the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist told the Hindustan Times.
Amid a lot of commotion, a large crowd gathered around as Poonia called the local police station to hand her catch.
“The police station was barely two minutes away from the spot but it took the cops some time to reach and I had to phone them twice. How will cops ensure women’s safety if they arrive late?” she wondered.
Poonia didn't just hand over one of the accused to the cops, but she also accompanied the two girls to the police station and completed the official formalities of lodging a case.
    © BCCL
“The problem with our society is that there are not many people who would raise their voice and protest when they see a girl being harassed. Instead, they choose to stay mute spectators," Poonia concluded.
The Indian athlete made a valid point there. In a country like India where heinous crimes against women are ever-increasing, the hoodlums in our society are only as strong as the will of general population to tolerate them.
Bengaluru's recent case of mass molestation on the New Year's eve is a classic example. A lot of young women were openly molested by a large mob amid the presence of various policemen. If only there was someone like Poonia in the mob to save the women, Bengaluru wouldn't have to hang its head in shame today.

Fight all you want for gender identity and equal rights, this legal system will always pull the nation back by a hundred years. A Delhi man was drugged, kidnapped and brutally raped but our country refuses to serve justice to him.
    BCCL
Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code defines rape as "sexual intercourse with a woman against her will, without her consent, by coercion, misrepresentation or fraud or at a time when she has been intoxicated or duped, or is of unsound mental health and in any case if she is under 16 years of age." The Indian Penal Code doesn’t even consider rape against men as a criminal offense.
To make things worse, Section 377 criminalizes homosexuality, deeming even consensual *** between men unnatural.  If you’re man who has been raped by another man, or worse, if you happen to be homosexual, living with the trauma all your life would be much easier than seeking real justice. Homosexuality makes you a criminal already, homosexual rape is obviously out of question.
    BCCL
Arnav started a dialogue about unfair the Indian law is towards men in general, and gay men in particular by posting these screenshots of his conversation with a homosexual friend who recently got raped on a date.
“Oh and this wasn't done by a lurker in one of those shady, isolated streets. The criminal is another student of the same prestigious university. Seems Delhi is equally unsafe for some men, but they don't even legally have a voice.” He made a valid point about how rape isn’t just confined to rural areas and dimly lit streets.
The personal account of his friend is harrowing, disturbing and just very, very saddening.

During the course of this conversation, you can almost feel the man’s trauma from revisiting that unfortunate night to being scared of even reporting the crime to blaming himself for it.
We hope putting this story out there could have helped him get the justice he deserves but given the times we’re living in, it really is a far-fetched idea. In a country where being gay isolates you from your gender, let alone the thousand stereotypes and ridicule one has to live with, it’s not hard to imagine why rape victims would rather suffer silently than report crimes.
Well done, India. You’re doing it right, absolutely right.

A teenager has invented a phone charger that utilises energy from the human body to power up mobile devices and act as a portable charger whenever you need one. The device works by simply rotating your hand, which in turn activates its gyroscope. One the gyroscope has been activated, it produces enough energy that can either be stored or used to charge a mobile phone.
    © Solent
The Kickstarter campaign hoped to achieve €50,000 in funding but has already achieved €71,333 by backers who want to get their hands on this device. The teenage inventor, Michael Vaga, hails from Minsk, Belarus and is already in the process of producing the device and should start sending the finished product to backers as soon as possible.
He said: "With each rotation of your hand, the rotor speed increases significantly and generates more power. The average speed of the rotor is 5,000 rpm.
"We translate the mechanical energy you put in into electrical energy and this means you can charge your device.”
According to Vaga, it took him over a year to develop this device and he describes it as an ideal product for people who spend a long time away from a power source. So, if you are thinking of going hiking, climbing or camping anytime soon, this is perfect for you.
    © Kickstarter
The device takes anywhere between 40 minutes to an hour to obtain full charge and the speed of the charging will be reduced if a phone is being charged at the same time. Vaga also stresses that the device is a good source of emergency energy and is also environmental friendly.
HandEnergy will be available from March 2017 with an expected retail price of €99 (INR 7063).

How many times have you internally cringed at the thought of paying a whopping service charge at a restaurant? You pick and choose the cheapest wine and skip the big meal, thinking you’d finally get a reasonable amount on the check this time, but hell no! The service charge is more than your day’s salary and the waiter was not even nice to you, what with your college boy drawl and chappals.
Fret not, the government has come to your rescue. The Ministry Of Consumer Affairs has decreed that a customer can refuse to pay the service tax if he/she is dissatisfied with the dining experience at the particular restaurant.
    © Pexels
In a press release, the government has asked the state governments to “sensitize the companies, hotels and restaurants in the states regarding aforementioned provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.” The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has also asked the respective state governments to “to advise the Hotels/Restaurants to disseminate information through display at the appropriate place in the hotels/restaurants that the ‘service charges” are discretionary/ voluntary and a consumer dissatisfied with the services can have it waived off.”
There have been a lot of complaints by consumers regarding service charges. The notification issued by the ministry reports, "A number of complaints from consumers have been received that hotels and restaurants are following the practice of charging 'service charge' in the range of 5-20%, in lieu of tips, which a consumer is forced to pay irrespective of the kind of service provided to him.”
Well, if you are happy with the food, service and ambience, you still have to pay the tax; but it is still a relief to know you wouldn't have to shell out an exorbitant tip if your experience has been far from satisfying.

It’s hard to put in words how fitness changed my life. I was always into sports. A national level basketball player and a sprinter, throughout my schooling years I was an athlete. You know how school level athletics work—basic to no guidance, bare minimum equipment and average coaches. Still, we were always taught to never give excuses. So, running away from a workout because it’s tough was nothing that I ever did. Soon though, school finished and so did my career as an athlete.
College Life Welcomed Me With A Love For Partying And Alcohol
As with every freshman, college was enticing for me too. Working out took a backseat and liquor and partying rolled on full throttle. Weekends were alcohol-filled and sooner than I thought, I had developed a huge appetite for whiskey in particular. Hell, I was guzzling down every drink thrown at me. I was 20, young and dumb. I was never fat though but yes, I was also never in shape, not even close.
Distance Running And Severe Calorie Restriction Made Me Skinny Fat
Bluntly put, I was skinny fat and drinking made it worse. Every time I would realize that I had put on some kilos, I would get alarmed and do what majority of fat dudes do—run. I strapped on my running shoes and ran endlessly. Of course, I had severely cut down on my food intake as well. Weight training wasn’t anywhere in play till now. While I thought I was losing weight all I was losing was muscle mass. I had no idea what right nutrition and weight training meant during this time. And let me tell you, this phase was long, very long. Not only did I become a skinny fat dude but my body also became slow twitch fiber dominant. I never knew that this was going to give me a hard time putting on muscle mass and the same happened.
With A Home Gym, CrossFit, Weight Training And Right Nutrition, I Became My Own Coach Everybody around me was getting buffed while I was still skinny fat. I figured that my approach was wrong and took to reading. I read a lot about weight training and high intensity training. I was hooked and since I had an athletic background I was well versed with HIIT. Shaun T’s Insanity got me really started on the right note. Though I was still not eating on point, HIIT helped me drop fat and build a decent body. Then I was introduced to CrossFit. Again I read a lot about it, fixed my nutrition and put together a basic home gym. Precisely learned the basics of CrossFit and slowly built on that.
This Is What I Am Now
All in all, it took me over a year to get to this physique, without ever having a coach guiding me. Started with over 27% body fat and weighing at least 85 kilos and with a lot of difficulty in putting on lean muscle mass, I am now at a decent 12-14% body fat, and weigh 73 kilograms.

The skinny fat stage is over and I pack on decent muscle mass. A lot of my training has also changed now—there’s more focus on isolation and compound lifting and the chasing right nutrition is fiercer than ever. Read, believe in yourself and learn from your mistakes. That’s all I did and that’s exactly what I recommend people.

True, you don’t need a book to set yourself on the path to self-development. But, sometimes, a book is all you need to give yourself a boost in the right direction.
Here are 8 of our favourites that were carrying into the New Year with us.
    1. 100 Things Successful People Do – Nigel Cumberland In a world where everyone wants to be successful, Cumberland effortlessly lists out the various different ideas and meanings of being successful; helping his readers to identify with certain areas more than others and prioritise their life goals better. With each page you turn, you’re assigned a new and simple task to set yourself on your path. Cumberland combines self-help with DIY in a way that keeps you engaged and hooked till the very end, just so you can find out how far along you’ve come in achieving your success and how much more you’re willing to do.
    © Hachette India
How We Used It: To begin with, I ticked off the ideas of success from Cumberland’s list, in the beginning of the book that applied to me most. Then, with a more streamlined thought process, I went about each day, practicing what was preached. While most of it has to do with how you tailor your thoughts, it’s also about how willful you are towards achieving your goals.
Our Verdict: It’s definitely worth a read. Even if you end up falling short of implementing each and every point in the book in your daily life, you’ll get an idea and a knack of what you want and where you’re headed.
    2. The Ten Faces OF Innovation – Tom Kelley with Jonathan Littman An international bestseller, this is a manifesto of sorts from Tom Kelley, partner at Ideo, an award-winning design firm on strategies for heightened creativity. In the book, author Kelley lists out different key roles that were developed at Ideo which have gone on to become central to success. These roles, like The Hurdler, the Anthropologist, the Cross-Pollinator and the Experience Architect can be adopted by anyone in their daily lives and tell a lot about how a person views and achieves success in their littlest endeavors. Each type is explained in detail, listing out how the individual would and should handle situations and circumstances.
    © Hachette India
How We Used It: We started by identifying which categories we fall into and read what Kelley has to say about the types. Then, we started introspecting and observing how much of Kelley’s analysis were we actually following and what we should be inculcating into our daily lives.
Our Verdict: Again, it’s not the holy grail of a lot of aspects; and yet, it’s something worth pondering over about ourselves and imbibing in our habits. Every once in a while, we could use a word like this.
    3. The Daily Stoic – Ryan Holiday and Stephen Hanselman The Daily Stoic is easily one of the best books you can keep at your bedside table, or your work desk. It’s a compilation of 366 meditations to get you through every single day, with a detailed explanation on each saying. The book is a first-hand guide to wisdom, perseverance and the art of living and contains translations from the works of thinkers, like Seneca, Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius.
    © Hachette India
How We Used It: I opened the book every day—months Jan through April talk about The Discipline of Perception; May through August, The Discipline of Action; and September through December, The Discipline of Will. For each day, there is a thought of profoundness to take into our lives and base our words, actions and thoughts on.
Our Verdict: It’s at the top our stack, even now. And for those of us who are looking for the right kind of inspiration; or maybe even just a nudge, this book is the real deal. The authors don’t rant; it’s not a bunch of situations by random strangers you have never met. It’s by old school thinkers who have shown us the way to a balanced life.
    4. TedTalks: The Official Guide To Public Speaking – Chris Anderson We’ve all been fascinated by the speakers we listen to in all attentiveness at a Ted Talk. It’s one of the best things tha could have happened to our generation in recent years. So, it would only make sense for Chris Anderson, Head of Ted, to write a book about public speaking and its effectiveness. In the book, Anderson explains the keys to public speaking—how short talks can actually unlock empathy, cause excitement, educate and envision. The book takes you through the five phases of public speaking—from listing out pointers and tools to getting on stage and delivering.
    © Hachette India
How We Used It: We used the book as a lesson plan for our own talks and how to put a point across. As Anderson draws from personal experiences; narrating stories of his own, along with others who learned and came a long way using the tools listed out. While most of us are already in a space where we’re used to active debate and discussion, the book did help us see various aspects that we wouldn’t really even notice.
Our Verdict: From being a fan to actually getting the ‘How-To’ right from the horse’s mouth; the book is definitely what we’ve all been needing in our lives; especially when it comes to public speaking being one of the most feared things for us. We prefer keeping our opinions to ourselves, even when we shouldn’t.
    5. Messy – Tim Harford   Unlike what the title suggests, the book is about being creative and resilient, at the same time, in a world where people are too rigid in thought. It is actually about how you need to be a little more messy and disorderly in life if you’re someone who wants their creativity to flow. And for a bunch of creative professionals in a corporate environment who are struggling to constrain their mess, this book is just what one needs. From the mindspace to the workplace, Harford shows how to play up with corporate environments and messy desks while delivering the most creative genius ideologies.
    © Hachette India
How We Used It: Mainly we used it to boost our creative egos. For the longest time, I, for one, have been struggling to clear the desk and the head because messiness breeds clutter and an unhealthy work-life balance. However, post reading Messy, Harford has helped me see that messy is not bad; in fact, in a rather strictly structured world, being a little out of line is beneficial.
Our Verdict: It’s a bit of a longer read than what you’d sign up for. But, the content, the points and the results prove that it’s worth every page you turn.
    6. Coaching Skills For Leaders In The Workplace – Jackie Arnold For anyone who is at the top of the ladder; is climbing the ladder, or is looking to make the climb sometime soon, Jackie Arnold’s book needs to be at the top of the reading stack on their desks. Unlike most books that teach you how to strike work-life balance, this one is the perfect book for ambitious professionals with goals to achieve.
    © Hachette India
How We Used It: With case studies and modules to read and refer to, Arnold has devised a perfect handbook for professionals to carry into the workspace and place it on their book shelves for any given point of time. We did the same. The book teaches you to look at every possibility and every angle of every problem. It teaches one to be more analytical and open-minded when dealing with crises.
Our Verdict: It’s a book-cum-work life coach that helps any individual at a higher post—or someone who strives to be at a particular position in the workplace—view things from different perspectives and make perceptive decisions.
    7. Better Than Before: What I learned About Making and Breaking Habits – Gretchen Rubin “Habits are the invisible architecture of everyday life.” And this is the statement upon which the book and the thesis by author Gretchen is centred. The book is about making better habits and breaking the lesser than good ones that are holding an individual’s potential from growing and turning into something skilful. It enlightens the reader on how the things we do everyday matter more than what we may do once in a while. Our habits make us who we are which is why it’s important to be aware of them at a conscious level.
    © Hachette India
How We Used It: I used it as a manifesto and a guide to analyse and understand my daily habits—right from waking up and wanting, almost too desperately, a cuppa Joe in bed, before doing anything else, to chewing the top off the pencil off at meetings. The book helps reveal how every habit has a deeper meaning and an underlying back story.
Our Verdict: It’s an eye-opener; especially for every carefree soul who didn’t bother minding their habits more. It definitely enlightens every reader and makes one want to watch their subconscious actions.
    8. What After Money And Fame – Sonia Golani The book is a compilation of conversations with some of  the most powerful personalities in India, like Adi Godrej, Ajay Piramal, Hafeez Contractor and Javed Akhtar to name a few. The book takes the reader on an interesting journey through the views of these twelve celebrated individuals on what keeps them motivated even after they have amassed all the success, fame and wealth.
    © Penguin Random House
How We Used It: To be honest, I’m not even half way to where I want to be in terms of success, wealth and fame; most of us aren’t. But, it’s an engrossing read and gives you a lot of perspective into how the rich and famous individuals of the country have achieve all that they have and continue to strive for the same excellence.
Our Verdict: It serves as a grounding read to anyone who wants it all; giving you just the right kind of insight you need to keep yourself grounded on your way to achieving the stuff that dreams are made of.

A dialogue on mental health has finally begun worldwide but there’s still time before people are made aware of what depression really is and most importantly, how it’s not just a synonym for sadness. Suffering from depression is a lot more complex and crippling that just being sad. It’s not a mood-swing, it can’t be described the same way as ‘feeling low’.
    Unsplash
Depression is a legitimate medical condition. Just in case you didn’t already know, the symptoms of depression aren’t just mental, it has physical implication too. A sudden loss in appetite, sleeping too much or not sleeping at all, losing interest in life in general account for the strongest and the most recognizable symptoms. People who are depressed aren’t weak. They’re just suffering from a disease. Depression also works differently for everyone. A person suffering from depression is struggling with life each and every moment, whether or not seemingly so.

Depression can be cured too, just like most other medical conditions. Using simple animation, Helen M. Farrell explains depression, its symptoms and how you could help someone going through it feel better in this short and crisp Ted-Ed video. Share this because you never know what people around you may be going through, what they may be hiding behind those smiles.
