Abe Lincoln once rightly said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” The man that comes out stronger and wiser, under the garb of power, is the only kind of man who is worth looking up to. He is the only man who matters. Fortunately, out of about a population of 7 billion people in the world, we found 50 such men who mattered in the year that has been 2016. For better, or for worse, these men have made a difference, or a dent, unlike any other this year and have, in some significant way, changed the way the world works.
    1. Barack Obama © Facebook
    Who: President of America
    Where: United States
Why: The 44th President of the USA, Obama was not only the first African-American to have been elected to the Oval office; he was a frontrunner and pioneer of healthcare reform, as well as Iranian nuclear accord. With his term at its end, what lies ahead for the American people is quite bleak, given that the successor to the seat poses a threat to most of Obama’s principles. It’s like, suddenly, people see what they’re losing.
    2. Vladimir Putin © Facebook
    Who: President of Russia
    Where: Russia
Why: Forbes named Putin the world’s most powerful man for four years in a row, primarily, for having expressed control over almost every aspect, across the world. He can very well be called, The Man Who Gets What He Wants—be it Syria, or the U.S Presidential Election. And, as time goes by, his influence and control only grows; not that he cares about any of this. He just does as he pleases.
    3. Xi Jinping   © Facebook
Who: General Secretary of the Communist Party, China
    Where: China
Why: This year, Xinping was promoted as a core leader of the Communist Party, making him one of the most influential men in China. And if you’re influential in China, you’re bloody well influential in the world, because… China. On a more serious note, though, it’s his forward thinking ideology, along with an assertive public profile that lets the media follow and talk about him on a daily basis that has gotten Xinping so much of the limelight. The good thing is, he uses this limelight and his power to reform parts of the Chinese society.
    4. Narendra Modi © Facebook
    Who: Prime Minister of India
    Where: India
Why: He took the country by storm after having been elected as Prime Minister of the country. And, aside from the fact that he’s as camera-friendly as he is publicity-hungry, Modi has never failed to have the citizens of his country sitting at the edge of their seats. Under his rule, we’ve had demonetization been implemented under a span of 4 hours, following which the nation has been under mayhem and madness—for better or for worse. And no matter what may be the outcome of this non-democratic, totally-dictatorial decision, the one thing we can agree on is the fact that no other ruling politician could ever pull off such a stunt.
    5. Donald Trump © Facebook
    Who: President Elect of America
    Where: United States
Why: The soon to be 45th President of America has literally put one big question mark over the glorious map of the United States of America. From having been a business tycoon, a womanizer and to being one of the key faces on an American reality TV show, like ‘The Apprentice’ to having the Oval Office to himself, Trump has literally got them (whoever they may be) by the p*ssy and he’s made no apologies about it. God help us all.
    6. Mark Zuckerberg © Facebook
Who: Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO, Facebook
    Where: United States
Why: Towards the latter half of this year, Zuckerberg and his wife decided to give away 99% of Facebook stock in order to increase human potential by ending all disease. After the decision was made, Facebook’s increased to 15% September and December, causing the potential payout in the world to rise. And while the decision was made towards the greater good of the people of the world, Zuckerberg’s share price has increased and earned him billions more. And you’re just sitting there wasting your life away.
    7. Tom Hiddleston © Facebook
    Who: Hollywood Actor
    Where: United Kingdom
Why: He made headlines for almost all the reasons—from speculations of Hiddleston being the next Bond to his short-lived but much-talked-about romance with a certain Hollywood singer who goes by the name of Taylor Swift—he was literally all over the internet… Not to mention that scene of his butt that got him eyeballs of all kinds. Looks like our favourite Loki knows just the mischief he needs to create.
    8. Zayn Malik  © Facebook
    Who: Hollywood Singer
    Where: United Kingdom
Why: He was in the news for splitting from his former boy band, One Direction; then, for dating top model  Gigi Hadid; later, for their steamy music video, Pillow Talk, a certain Vogue cover they did together and soon, Zayn became the sexiest man of the year. We’re not surprised, really. With a voice like that and lyrics that spur all the right feels in all the right places, he has the whole world—women, mostly—at his feet.
    9. Prince Harry © Facebook
    Who: Prince of Wales
    Where: United Kingdom
Why: From being the typical bad boy born with a silver spoon, who went around the world, dating hot women, having all the fun and being caught at all the wrong places, doing the wrong things, this was possibly the year that Prince Harry officially arrived. I honestly feel though that the man never got due credit; especially over his goodie brother who always got the nicer reviews from the people. Prince Harry has done more good and charity in the world this year than you would save for your retirement in all your life. Yes, he has the money; but, so do many others who don’t. This year he actually went around fulfilling his Princely duties—from raising money for charity at a stock exchange to opening up about his mother’s death and from being taken seriously as just an honest young lad who’s also a do-gooder to dating (and probably settling down with) Meghan Markle. Yes, the Prince has finally been realized.
    10. Kanye West © Facebook
    Who: Hollywood Rapper and Musician
    Where: United States
Why: Mr West has ruffled more than a few feathers this year. Some of them, good; others, not so good. From his first ever fashion show to his scandalous music video showing top notch personalities, including his own wife, naked—Kanye went there, did that, came back and rapped about it. And then, he went on to win awards for his music. That’s how you don’t give a damn, show people the invisible finger and get the world to look at you like you’re royalty.
    11. Brad Pitt © Facebook
    Who: Hollywood Actor
    Where: United States
Why: He did it again. No, not a shirtless stunt, or a great Benjamin Button-esque movie, no. He got yet another divorce. But, it was much more than that. This year, all anyone talked about was the infamous Brangelina split—a split no one ever thought would happen; given that theirs was a quintessential drama-filled romance that ended with kids, a family, a marriage and a white picket fence. Only, it didn’t really end like that. It got murky and real.
    12. Calvin Harris © Facebook
Who: Scottish Music Producer and DJ
    Where: United States
Why: Harris started 2016 with a bunch of Grammy Award nominations, a superstar girlfriend, named Taylor Swift. He went on to give us yet another hit with Rihanna, This Is What You Came For; a holiday with his girlfriend and then, a very sudden and heart breaking split from her. But that’s not all. He also came in the news when his recent ex started dating yet another famous Hollywood star just days after their split. Then things got ugly; but the world sided with Harris. He even wrote a song about it—My Way. And everyone went crazy.
    13. Raghuram Rajan © Facebook
Who: Governor of Reserve Bank of India
    Where: India
Why: The 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was one of the most talked about men in the country this year—for his strict, forward thinking and wise financial decision making and then, soon after, for his shocking resignation from the same post. Aside from his witty repartee and a wry sense of humour, Raghuram Rajan’s exit was one of the most talked about events in the country for the prime reason that many saw his exit from his role at the RBI as a bad sign for the Indian economy.
    14. Kit Harrington © Facebook
    Who: Hollywood Actor
    Where: England
Why: Ever since his being cast as Jon Snow on the incredibly popular English TV show, ‘Game of Thrones’, Kit Harrington has remained one of the most trending topics. But this year, Harington made headlines for the amazing turn of events in the same series and the plotlines that reveal his role to be a key character in the eventual end of the show. That, and the fact that he’s in love with his onscreen love interest—Ygritte—that is, Rose Leslie.
    15. Dwayne Johnson © Facebook
Who: Hollywood Actor and Professional Wrestler
    Where: United States
Why: Aside from having made headlines with the ‘Baywatch’ movie trailer and being cast in the same movie as our very own Priyanka Chopra, Dwayne The Rock Johnson has been talked about for becoming the Sexiest Man Alive, this year. It doesn’t really beat that, honestly. But, he’s also now set to be playing the role of Black Adam in the movie, ‘Superman Vs Black Adam’.
    16. Milind Soman © Facebook
Who: Fitness Promoter and Bollywood Actor
    Where: India
Why: He has earned the tag of being India’s own Ironman for a level of dedication to fitness like none other. He’s become a source of inspiration when it comes to health and fitness; not just for the men; but, even for women. Soman even embarked on a barefoot 570km marathon, from Amdavad to Mumbai; finished a 42.2km marathon in roughly 4 and a half hours and has spoken up regarding the importance of fitness for women. He has proved that fitness is not about looking up to supermodels, or bodybuilders; but about regular and ordinary people.
    17. Justin Trudeau   © Facebook
    Who: Prime Minister of Canada
    Where: Canada
Why: This was the year of Justin Trudeau—the Canadian Prime Minister who won the hearts of people around the world and for all the right reasons. From opening their borders for refugees, partaking in the Canadian Pride Parade to talking about decriminalizing Marijuana, the second-youngest Prime Minister has opened the minds and the horizons of the people in his country, as well as the world. He’s easily one of the youngest and most forward thinking leaders the world currently has.
    18. Larry Page © wikipedia
    Who: CEO of Alphabet
    Where: United States
Why: Last year, Page became CEO of Alphabet—a newly created parent of Google and its sister companies—after having served as CEO of Google. Then, early this year, and for the first time ever, the man went on to release information on financial details of the other sister companies, like smart-thermostat firm Nest, broadband Internet provider Google Fiber and life-sciences firm Verily. Then, after having passed on the reins of CEO to Sundar Pichai, Page announced that he would be funding two flying-car startups: Kitty Hawk and Zee.Aero.
    19. Pope Francis © Facebook
Who: Bishop of Rome, Roman Catholic Church
    Where: The Vatican City, Rome
Why: As spiritual leader to about one-sixth of the world’s total population, he is one of the first at the position who has taken it upon himself to transform the image of the church as conservatory and rigid. Just last month, he ruled that priests would now have power to forgive women who underwent abortion. He continues to push for reforms to counter climate change, works for the betterment of the refugee crisis across the world. In a world of conservationists, he’s one of the first balanced religious leaders who strive for a modern embracement of Catholicism.
    20. Warren Buffet © Facebook
    Who: CEO Berkshire Hathaway
    Where: United States
Why: He’s known as the Oracle of Omaha and, aside from having one of the best business brains in the world, he’s openly lashed out at Donald Trump this year and has been one of the most heard voices on the American Presidential election this time around. In his annual letter to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders, he affirmed, “For 240 years it's been a terrible mistake to bet against America, and now is no time to start.”
    21. Rohit Khandelwal © Facebook
    Who: Mr World 2016
    Where: India
Why: After years… no, ages, we have an Indian Mr World in the face of Rohit Khandelwal who has put our country on the map when it comes to the stigmas and assumptions that follow the persona of Indian men around the world. Rohit broke the stereotypes and proved to the world, at an international level, that Indian men should be reckoned with on an overall scale—not just for the intelligence, politics or business sense; but also for their looks.
    22. Leonardo DiCaprio © Facebook
    Who: Hollywood Actor
    Where: United States
Why: Leo finally received his first Oscar this year for the movie ‘The Revenant’. Of course, the internet broke into a riot. That wasn’t all. He won over the audience with his speech about global warming being a real crisis to be talked about and announced the documentary ‘Before The Flood’—a film about climate change—that went viral and broke world records.
    23. Cristiano Ronaldo © Facebook
    Who: International Footballer
    Where: Portugal
Why: Apart from the fact that he was named Best Player of the year, Ronaldo was, in fact, one of the best players this year. He confirmed this, himself when he said that this was by far the best year, in football, for him. He’s scored approximately 270 goals and has been recorded as one of the highest paid players this year. Plus, the fact that his country won the world cup this year just cinches the deal.
    24. LeBron James © Facebook
    Who: International Basketball Player
    Where: United States
Why: He’s been named the AP Male Athlete of the year, James gave us one of the most magnificent comebacks in the history of sports’ comebacks. Aside from the fact that he was a no-show at one of his recent games, it was his victory dance routine that had people talking about him this year.
    25. Karun Nair © Facebook
    Who: Indian Cricketer
    Where: India
Why: The young Indian cricketer shot to fame after his debut in Test Cricket in November, this year, when he scored his maiden Test century, in the final match against England. The match ended with Karun at 303, not out. It took him three innings to hit the triple century; thus, becoming the quickest batsman to hit a maiden triple century in test cricket in the history of cricket. He also became the second Indian batsman to hit a triple-hundred in Tests after Virender Sehwag and the third player – after Bob Simpson and Sir Garfield Sobers.
    26. Virat Kohli © Facebook
    Who: Indian Cricketer
    Where: India
Why: The young Indian Cricket Team Captain is on a roll this year. He’s been on one for a while now, actually; but this year, seems to be his in every way possible. He was recently even named Australia’s ODI Captain of The Year, trumping Smith to the title. He’s been one of the youngest and most successful Indian cricket team captains and the media is calling it his breakaways year. To add to that, he’s back with his former girlfriend and actress Anushka Sharma and they seem to be going as strong as ever. It is his time, indeed.
    27. Usain Bolt © Facebook

    28. Tim Cook © Facebook
    Who: CEO, Apple
    Where: United States
Why: It’s not every day that the CEO of Apple decides to do away with eth ear phone jack on one of the most sought-after phones in the world. Yes, Tim Cook is the man behind the phone that from here on shall not have an ear phone jack. You could call it the silliest decision in the history of technological decisions; or you could call it the birth of a revolution. Whichever it might be, he got people to sit up and take note that it’s not ‘just’ an iPhone; it’s an iPhone!
    29. Novak Djokovic © Facebook
    Who: International Tennis Player
    Where: Serbia
Why: Apart from the fact that Djokovic has won almost every match he’s ever played, this year, Djokovic came majorly under the news for having let go of his former coach and ex-superstar tennis player, Boris Becker. A lot of experts and media have both criticized his move; while others have foretold that this could be just the change that Djokovic requires in his career. Which will it be, we are yet to see. But, that’s enough to be talked about across the world.
    30. Anonymous (The Hacker) © Facebook
    Who: IT Hacker
    Where: God Knows
Why: The one who created havoc across the micro blogging site Twitter; the one who brought down the TRAI website, as well as the ISIS website. In a world where the internet rules, an internet spy world obviously cause all the stir you need to trend and get people and diplomats to listen to you.

Amidst launching satellites at SpaceX and working with Tesla to bring fully-electric vehicles to the masses, Musk is on a mission to make space travel a legitimate thing; not just for astronauts and spaceships; but, for people like you and me. His dream is to facilitate inter-planetary travel. One of the rockets caught fire in September this year, at launch; causing a lot of people to question the ideas and execution. But, there is no stopping Elon Musk at the rate he’s going.
    32. Karan Johar © Facebook
    Who: Indian Filmmaker and Producer
    Where: India
Why: Johar has been in the news almost throughout this year, for some reason or another. He’ s come under criticism for his sexual orientation, for his movies and for his choice of cast (remember, Fawad Khan?). 33. Tanmay Bhat © Facebook
    Who: Stand-Up Comedian
    Where: India
Why: Tanmay Bhat is one of India’s prominent faces when it comes to stand-up comedy—giving it the credibility it deserves as a profession. But, that’s not why he came under the spotlight this year. It was more about his Snapchat fiasco that brought his to the fore on the internet this year; with people across the country being divided into two sides—pro Bhat and anti-Bhat. The issue also raised an important question as to how lighthearted and accepting we as a nation are to humour.

    35. Rupert Murdoch © Facebook

    Where: United States
Why: The media mogul returned to Fox News as the Chairman in July this year and married his fourth wife—who also happens to be Mick Jagger’s ex—Jerry Hall, in March this year. Clearly, someone got to say, “I’m back” in the best possible way this year.
    36. Fawad Khan © Facebook
    Who: Pakistani Actor
    Where: Pakistan
Why: Fawad Khan can be called an era in Bollywood; however brief it might have been. He came, everyone saw, he conquered hearts and a few projects and went back to where he came from. But while he was here, women swooned over him and men tried to be him; even the Pakistani TV show ratings increased because of him. Then, came the ban on Pakistani artists working in India which saw Fawad Khan move back to his own soil, with his last stint being in Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’.

    38. Arnab Goswami   © Facebook
    Who: Indian media professional
    Where: India
Why: He’s probably one of the few Indian media professionals who manage to make their own headlines. And so, he did just that when Goswami recently announced a split from the Times Now group. He stepped down from his position as Editor-In-Chief of the Times Now Network and is set to start his own venture, based on independent journalism—a first for India. Something we’re already looking forward to.

    41. Vijender Singh © Facebook
    Who: Indian Boxing Champion
    Where: India

    Who: Defence Minister of India
    Where: India

    43. Satya Nadella © Facebook
    Who: CEO, Microsoft
    Where: United States
Why: Nadella became a favourite for the international press ever since he took over as CEO at Microsoft; not just because of the fact that he was an Indian at the head of an international brand; but also—and mostly—because with his arrival, Microsoft began to see a steady rise in its development. This year, Nadella once again stole the show when he announced Microsoft’s takeover of the professional social network, LinkedIn for $26.2 billion, thereby increasing Microsoft’s stock to a whole new level.
    44. Vijay Shekhar Sharma © Facebook
Who: Founder and Chief Executive, PayTM
    Where: India
Why: After demonetisation has struck our country, PayTM has become one of the most used financial apps on our phones, overnight. This hasn’t only increased PayTM’s networth but has also caused the app to come under scrutiny in terms of investments, stakeholders and ownership authorities. That’s why Vijay Shekhar Sharma has been at the helm of it all—shutting down rumours of a Chinese ownership, technical glitches as well as an alleged lawsuit against the brand by international brand, PayPal.

If there’s one person who ruled social media this year, it was Mrs. Funny Bones. Never the one to mince words, Twinkle Khanna was at her sassy best in 2016. It’s only fair we do a round-up of the most hilarious moments from her Twitter account this year!
    1. When she was way beyond optimism and pessimism because there were bigger struggles in life.

For more than 40 long years, we have been relentlessly told that cholesterol is bad. It causes heart attacks, slows the metabolism down, makes you fat and god knows what else. Right from medical text books to a fat man’s head, this information has been embedded everywhere. Who is to blame for this? Well, the American Health and Food Care authorities.   Ever since the 60s, the U.S. Government has been up in arms against dietary cholesterol and fat. Of course, the rest of the world followed suit and demonized fat consumption. Now in 2016, The U.S. government is finally talking some sense.
    © Thinkstock
America’s top nutrition advisory panel has now decided to drop its caution about eating cholesterol-laden food. This move will make its very own stand against cholesterol of more than 50 years, null and void. 5 years back the same committee had deemed foods rich in cholesterol unhealthy and also labeled cholesterol as a ‘nutrient of concern’. Thanks to the evolving fitness industry and more advanced research, the panel will now drop its prejudice against fat and cholesterol. The change on cholesterol comes from the influential Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, the group that provides the scientific basis for the “Dietary Guidelines.”
    © Thinkstock
The panel though, still advocates that high consumption of fatty foods might still lead to heart diseases and people with heart conditions should still stay away from cholesterol. The recommendation is being backed by some of the biggest dietary research schools across America. The dreaded picture of the fat person painted by the American Health authorities led to a massive dietary shift and people replaced fats with carbohydrates, making them sicker and fatter than ever.   There is still a wide divide amongst the authorities though.  A task force arranged by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association looked at the dietary cholesterol studies in 2013 said that there was “insufficient evidence” to make a recommendation. Still, this decision comes as the biggest move to bust a long running dietary myth!

Just few days ago we all saw a video of a Jihadi couple who sent off their precious little daughters to blow themselves up in a suicide mission in Damascus. Why? Because religion.
    © YouTube
The mother calmly said goodbye to the kids as she explained to them that ’Jihad’ is a Muslim obligation and age doesn’t matter. Both the girls, namely Fatima and Islam, are seen wearing a burkha. The father explains to them that fear is futile. He later said ‘You are not going to be afraid because you are going to the heavens, right?’ The girls died later during the mission.

The same father is now dead and a Russian journalist tweeted out a photograph of the said Jihadi guy clad in a traditional death shroud. It is being assumed that he was killed on the outskirts of Damascus after gunmen opened fire.

Shahid Kapoor is all set to make a smashing appearance on the 5th season of ‘Koffee With Karan’ this weekend, along with wife Mira Rajput who would be giving her first ever official interview! Shahid Kapoor broke the news 3 weeks ago with this adorable selfie with Mira Rajput.
On the couch with my ❤️
A photo posted by Shahid Kapoor (@shahidkapoor) on Dec 1, 2016 at 7:37pm PST
Apparently, Mira Rajput left Karan Johar stunned with her confidence and charm on the show and that’s just another reason why it is one of the most awaited episodes of the season.
The couple was at its candid best on ‘Koffee With Karan’ and Shahid Kapoor even went on to reveal that he had the biggest crush on Twinkle Khanna in his younger years. The story goes that much like Karan Johar, Shahid Kapoor was totally head over heels over Twinkle Khanna. His mother Neelima Azmi was a part of Twinkle Khanna’s film ‘Itihaas’ also featuring Raj Babbar and Ajay Devgn. During the filming of the movie, Shahid Kapoor and his friend would wait for hours at the swimming pool just to see Twinkle Khanna!

The CISF or the Central Industrial Security Forces has recently revealed that according to the full year data which was updated up to the middle of December, a total of 479 pickpockets, out of which an overwhelming 438 were women i.e. approximately more than 91% of the total figure were women.
    © BCCL
The CISF, who are responsible for providing security to the Delhi Metro operations has undertaken a little over 100 operations this year, to check pick-pocketing in Delhi and its adjoining areas such as Noida and Gurugram. These special operations include, officials dressed as commoners to keep an eye for trouble makers and thieves.
    © BCCL
What’s more interesting? The overwhelming figure of women that are involved in these crimes is not something new and in fact has been a constant trend for a few years now. Funnily enough, the figure has actually dropped down a bit from last year and 91% is actually an improvement. Last year, the yearly data revealed 93% of pickpockets to be women and in 2014 it was 95%.
    © BCCL
The CISF, after detaining these women, hand them over to the Delhi Police for legal action. Recently, the CISF exposed a gang of women who robbed jewels and valuables from an American lady travelling in the metro with her husband.
    © Facebook
A senior official said that “The figures state that women constitute over 91 per cent (of the total pickpockets) in pick pocketing crimes in the Delhi Metro. It has been found that the modus operandi of these women is to either carry a child or travel in a group to con and pick a purse or other valuables of a traveler, be it a man or a woman,”.

So the next time you’re in the Delhi metro, keep a close watch on your belongings.

Aamir Khan’s fat to fit transformation will go down in the history of Bollywood as one of the most impressive transformations ever. Apart from his physical transformation, Aamir also worked his ass off training for his wrestling scenes in the movie. If you have seen the movie, you will agree that he looks every bit the professionally trained wrestler. All this didn’t come easy. Aamir trained with Kripa Shankar Bishnoi, Coach for the Indian wrestling team and precisely learnt every technique and developed the skill-set that he needed to perform like a wrestler. His training actually took more time than his physical transformation. He was training right throughout his weight gain phase, right up till the time he dropped to 9.3% body fat. It surely wasn’t easy and here is the video that proves it.

If you don’t really know what Sports Medicine is or are curious to find out, we here at Mensxp have got the lowdown for you.
The Confusion And The Real Meaning Of Sports Medicine  © Thinkstock
Sports Medicine is a misconstrued specialty and confused to be the domain of Orthopedic and Arthroscopy based surgeons. Sports Medicine is a multi disciplinary science which primarily comprises of three broad specialties- Exercise Physiology, Orthopedic Medicine (conservative / non operative orthopedics) and Allied Medicine.
It Helps You Perform Better And Exploit Your Limits  © Thinkstock
The primary tenet of Sports Medicine is helping a person perform to his or her maximum, based on the physiological parameters, injury management or by working on modifiable factors influencing performance. To elaborate further, a Sports Medicine specialist should be able to test and evaluate a Physiological parameter specific to a sports discipline and suggest methods of further improvement. In terms of injuries the most important factor to determine is the cause of the injury which might be due to external factors such as inappropriate training methods, incorrect footwear, a racquet size or grip or a training surface which might be a factor besides looking for internal factors such as limb length misalignments or reduced strength or flexibility. Merely treating an injury might not be the correct approach as most sports injuries are due to repeated activities. In fact most sports injuries are Grade 1 or 2 injuries which can be managed conservatively. The most important aspect of injury management is to return to sport in the shortest possible time with adequate rehabilitation of the injury.
Olympians & Sports Medicine: The Relationship   © YouTube
If we go through the sociology of sports and sports performance by nations performing well in Olympic and International events, it will be noticed that they all have an excellent sports medicine and sports sciences program incorporated. All nations excelling in sports such as US, UK, Australia, China, Japan , Korea, erstwhile USSR, old Eastern bloc countries and even tiny nations such as Cuba have such a sports medicine and sports sciences program. Sports Medicine, classically, is for the overall performance of an athlete with a holistic approach. Ideally, sports medicine is to ‘identify, nurture, perform and retire’ in the context of the sportsperson.
It Helps Bifurcate Athletes Based On Certain Parameters  Sports medicine begins right from the stage of talent identification or identifying the best sports for a given athlete based on various physiological parameters. These athletes now need to be nurtured in terms of correct training methods, adequate nutrition, prevention and treatment of injuries, regular physical and clinical assessments. Now the stage is set  for  the  sportsperson  to  perform,  with  all  physiological  systems  adequately firing,  injuries  well  taken  care  of  and  rehabilitated,  all  nutritional  parameters adequate  for  performance  and  psychologically  tuned  to  hit  the  podium.  Finally, when  the  athlete  plans  to  call  it  a  day  he  should  be  gradually  weaned  of  high load  training  and  put  on  adequate  exercises  with  all  injuries  rehabilitated  and long term action plan for chronic injuries.

    14. Phillauri © Instagram

In cricket, solid technique is everything. Be it Dravid or Laxman or Ponting, if you have the right technique to play the ball on its merit then there’s not much else that you need as a prerequisite to achieve great things in the game. All these stalwarts, in fact, persevered just because their approach to the game was right and thereby schooled up and coming cricketers at the Ranji level to believe in their technique too.
Samit Gohel is called a ‘stroke less wonder’ in the Ranji trophy circles. One of his great strengths, however, is defending and batting through tough periods of play when many around him falter. On the other hand, that reputation has left a negative impact on his batting. At a time when Dravid is still remembered by millions of fans around the world as ‘The Wall’, a similar trait of Samit was a curse for the player in Ranji matches where a first innings lead is still valuable.
    © Twitter
On Tuesday though, Gohel broke a 117-year old world record for the highest score by an opener in first class cricket, using the same technique for which he was criticized. Gohel scored 359 runs overtaking Surrey’s Bobby Abel who scored 357 at the Oval in 1899. Gohel, in doing so, became the fourth triple centurion in first class cricket to carry his bat.
Gujarat coach Vijay Patel while talking to the Indian Express observed why Samit’s form remains a mystery despite the talent. “He used to defend even half-volleys during the early part of his innings. He could play all the shots but hardly used his full repertoire. He had a kind of mental block. I’m happy that he has managed to get over it,” Patel said.
Samit also agreed that his defensive mindset was one of the major roadblocks in performing up to his potential. “I had to change the mindset. Earlier, I used to be iffy about playing my shots unless I got a 200 per cent boundary ball. Parthiv Bhai (Patel) played a huge role in changing things. He was always by my side, trying to nail in positivity. He always gave me the confidence and told me about the benefits of being positive. Confidence was the biggest factor in this change. The biggest positive is that I can rotate strike more freely,” Samit quipped.

The strike rate was not a problem for Samit in this innings. During his 723-ball rout, Gohel scored 359 runs at a strike rate of almost 50. He became the second batsman from Gujarat to score a triple century, which explains why the team has performed so well to reach the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy. His innings also caps a pretty successful year for Indian batsmen in domestic and international seasons.
So, the next time you are filled with any doubts as to why success still eludes you despite all the hard work, just put your head down and work harder because a breakthrough might just be around the corner.

2016 was full of sports events and Indian athletes made sure that the fans had something to cheer for this year. While PV Sindhu's historic silver at the Rio Olympics made us forget the struggles at the Games, Virat Kohli's class and impeccable leadership skills propelled India to the pinnacle of Test cricket.
There were some memorable moments in Indian sports that made the nation proud. And then there were some fairytale stories in sports that won adulation of a zillion fans across the country.
With the New Year looming, we take a look at 10 inspirational stories in Indian sports that stood out this year:

After lurking in the shadows of the popular badminton figure Saina Nehwal, the 21-year-old PV Sindhu found her stardom with a series of some impeccable performances at the Rio Olympics this year. The teen sensation bagged the coveted silver medal at the Games to carve out her own niche.
At a time when India's medal hopes for badminton were dashed after the defeat of Nehwal, Sindhu elevated her game and clinched the lone silver medal for India at the Rio Games. She was defeated by Spain's Carolina Marin 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 in a pulsating final. In the process, she became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal.

The Virat Kohli-led Indian team climbed to the no. 1 spot in Test rankings following their 2-0 series win against the West Indies in August. However, the joy of Indian fans was short-lived with arch-rivals Pakistan pipping them to the top after their 2-2 draw against England in the same month.
But, the Kohli brigade came back strong in the Test series against New Zealand to reclaim the ICC Test Championship mace in October. After taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, India were guaranteed the no. 1 spot but since the rankings are updated only at the end of a series, Kohli was presented the Test mace after the conclusion of the third Test - also won by the home side to complete a 3-0 rout of the Kiwis.
Kohli became only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni and 10th overall to receive the mace.
    Karmakar shines bright © Reuters
The battle in the face of adversity is a romantic metaphor for the struggles women go through in every sphere of life in India. And, Dipa Karmakar's story is no different.
The 23-year-old from Agartala, who was the first woman gymnast from India to qualify for the Olympics, didn't win a medal, but ranked an impressive fourth position in the women's vault finals at Rio Olympics in August this year.
She received a final score of 15.066 for executing the Produnova vault - one of the most dangerous feats in gymnastics. Karmakar missed out on the bronze medal by a mere 0.15 points. The girl from Tripura might have missed out on an Olympic medal, but she won millions of hearts not just back home, but also across the globe.
    Karun's triple ton © BCCL
Playing only in his third Test, young Karun Nair stole the limelight from India's popular and proven cricketers after he slammed a blistering 303 runs during the Chennai Test against England. The right-hander became only the second Indian cricketer to notch up a triple hundred in Test cricket.
He was also the third batsman in Test history to convert his maiden hundred into a triple ton. Gary Sobers (1957-58) and Bob Simpson (1964) are the other two batsmen to have achieved the feat.
Thanks to Nair, India amassed a first innings' total of 759/7 - their highest and the seventh highest (overall) Test tally of all time. For England, it was the highest total they have ever conceded in their Test history.
    Sakshi Malik bronze © Reuters
No one would have picked Sakshi Malik as a probable to land a medal, let alone win India's first, at the Rio Olympics. But, her grit and poise was at full display when she pulled off a sensational 8-5 victory over Kyrgyzstan's Aisuluu Tynybekova in the playoff bout, ending India's painful wait for a medal at the Games.
The 23-year-old earned a dramatic win after falling behind 0-5 in the knockout bout and clinched a bronze medal, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. Weightlifter Karnam Malleshwari (2000, Sydney), boxer MC Mary Kom (2012, London) and shuttler Saina Nehwal (2012, London) were the only other women athletes from India to have won a medal in the Olympics.
Coming from a conservative community where girls are restricted to household chores, Malik fought against all odds to achieve the impossible. And, her performance became the inspiration for the other budding talents across the country.

Riding on her sublime form, PV Sindhu dismantled home favourite Sun Yu to win her maiden Superseries title this year. The Indian shuttler defeated her Chinese counterpart 21-11, 17-21, 21-11 in the summit clash to clinch the China Open Superseries.
In the process, Sindhu became the third non-Chinese athlete to win the tournament in the last 30 years. She also became only the second Indian woman to win the China Open. Saina Nehwal had clinched the China Open in 2014 before finishing runners-up last year.
Her exploits also saw her ascend to the seventh spot in the world rankings on the 1st December.
Women's hockey team qualifying for Rio © BCCL
India's ever-improving women's hockey team made the country proud by making it to the Olympics after a long-hiatus of 36 years. Under the guidance of Coach Neil Hawgood, the Indian team locked horns with some of the best in the business. For a team that was crippled by the lack of international exposure, the Indian women's team didn't even win a single game in Rio.
But, the women came back a more confident side, while their growth and evolution eventually lead them to their maiden Asian Champions Trophy title in November. The Indian team stunned the Chinese side 2-1 in the final with a last-gasp goal coming from Deepika Thakur via a penalty corner.
Harmanpreet playing in BBL © Twitter
Just like other sports in the country, Indian women's cricket team is also struggling to break away from the shadows of the men's cricket side. But, one female cricketer has carved her own niche to steal the spotlight this year.
Harmanpreet Kaur, India's T20 captain has been sensational this year. But, becoming the first Indian women's cricketer to be signed by an overseas T20 franchise was arguably the biggest moment for Indian women's cricket in 2016. She smashed a blistering 28-ball 47 for Sydney Thunder on her WBBL debut and then followed it up with an all-round performance of 4-27 and 21-ball 30 to help Sydney seal an eight-wicket win over Melbourne Stars.
Seriously impressed with @ImHarmanpreet in last nights #WBBL02 Classy, skillful. A wonderful addition to the tournament.
    — Adam Gilchrist (@gilly381) December 10, 2016 The right-hander also led India to the Asian T20 Cup title earlier this month. She marshalled her troops to a 17-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in a gruelling final.
Bengaluru FC reaching AFC Cup final © BCCL
Sunil Chhetri-led Bengaluru FC reaching the historic AFC Cup final was undoubtedly the biggest moment for Indian football this year. The Indian football captain inspired his side to a 3-1 win over defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim with his stunning double strike.
By reaching the finals, Bengaluru FC became the first club in Indian football history to make it to the summit clash of the prestigious second-tier continental tournament. Before Bengaluru FC, the farthest an Indian club had advanced in a continental tournament was the two AFC Cup semi-final appearances by Dempo in 2008 and East Bengal in 2013.
Though the Bangalore club failed and missed out on becoming the first Indian club to win a continental title after a 0-1 loss to Air Force Club of Iraq in the final, Chhetri's men returned home with their heads held high as they set a benchmark for Indian clubs in the future.
Aditi turns up the heat in golf © BCCL
Aditi Ashok rewrote history books in her rookie year. It was a massively successful year for the 18-year-old golfer. The teen golfer turned professional on 1 January and by August, she had made it to the Rio Olympics as India's lone female golfer.
She was tied 7th after the second round of the women's individual event, but eventually finished 41st. Despite losing the plot in the later stages, Aditi's gritty performance helped draw a lot of eyeballs to Indian golf.
The Bengaluru golfer won her maiden title after clinching the Indian Open in November. In the process, Aditi scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a Ladies European Tour title. In December, she ended the season tied third in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters and secured the Rookie of the Year honours on the Ladies European Tour.

    1. The All-White Look To The Rescue Pinterest
The head-to-toe white look with a hint of gray is going to be a big thing in 2017. Make sure you add some details to your look with studded shoes or a denim. Also, avoid wearing the same shade of white, it can kill your entire look. Instead, opt for different shades and textures to create a clear separation between each piece. You will surely turn a few heads, all for the right reasons!
    2. Invest In Copper This Year Pinterest
Men generally don’t think beyond black, blue or grey but now is the time to experiment with copper - one fun colour that is a runway hit. However, don't overdo it and remember to keep your entire look subtle. Copper in itself is enough to make you stand out. So opt for a pair of plain black or blue denims to compliment your look.
    3. Sophisticated Platinum Jewellery Pieces Are In  PGI
The best way to compliment an outfit or a look is by adorning a piece of platinum jewellery. For example, avoid lapel pin, if you are already wearing tie bar and cufflinks. You can add a hint of sophistication to your entire look with a simple platinum bracelet, a ring or a chain to make the perfect statement. Visit Malabar Gold & Diamonds down South to pick one that suits your personality or visit www.preciousplatinum.in to find a retailer near you.
    4. Opt For Embellished Bomber Jackets Pinterest
Bomber jackets have taken the fashion world by storm and we aren’t complaining. Opt for one with detailed work but make sure it looks subtle. Also, don't let the jacket overpower your look. Carry the style with class and let the jacket do the talking while you sport it with elan.
    5. Wear Monochrome Prints In Style Pinterest
Get your bold look on with some graphical and unusual designs that will compliment your personality. Just make sure you keep away from mismatched patterns since they can ruin the entire look. The pattern is what enhances the attire, so try to keep it simple with little variations here and there. You can add black and white stripes or any traditional pattern to keep it stylish.
    6. Enhance Your Look With Belts Pinterest
Statement belts are a favourite this year. Whether it is a simple leather belt or a statement belt cinching up the jacket, it doesn't really matter. However, avoid wearing belts with large buckles. If you want to do total justice to your look, you should definitely know where to wear your belts and how. The ultimate accessory to every look, make sure you own a lot of belts this year!
