People are driving for miles to the gym only to ‘walk’ on a treadmill. Dudes want to lose weight to fit in a pair of skinny jeans. Carbohydrates are being avoided as if they will bring about a zombie apocalypse. Fat people are running marathons and avoiding egg yolks. All of this is sad. Our generation’s outlook towards fitness is sad.
Your Parents Never Went On A Diet, & Nor Did Your Grandparents. They Are Fitter Than You Are And Chances Are That They Will Outlive You. Look at your parents and even your grandparents for that matter. They are decades elder to you but still more to immune seasonal diseases than you are. They are just generally, unlike adults of our generation, fit. They eat everything from sweets to rotis, yes the dreaded gluten. They have been doing it for decades and they hardly have issues with weight gain and general illnesses. The reason for this is that their level of physical activity in the younger days was way more than our sedentary lifestyles today. You get the drift? Move more and sit less. Falling in for fad diets is a happening thing, just like wearing a fitband and not even taking ten steps.
Trading In Lifting Weights For Running Distances. Exactly Where Our Generation Went Wrong! © Thinkstock
The human body is built to sprint, walk and carry heavy weights. Our ancestors did it. It’s in our genes and you just can’t manipulate your genetic make-up. We weren’t supposed to run. We either sprinted to catch prey or ‘walked’, not ran unending distances, to settle colonies, except for a few tribes who were known for distance running.  But then again, they ran for a purpose and not for weight loss. Marathons and running in general has always been a sport since ages, not a weight loss tool. Our generation has made it one. Misguided fat people are running endlessly, only to become a skinny fatter, not fitter version of themselves. Lifting weights is being neglected and it’s being replaced with running. It’s dangerous and an army of weak, skinny fat individuals will soon assemble.
Assuming Self Responsibility Has Gone For A Toss © Thinkstock
The first step towards ‘not being fat’ is to acknowledge that you have made mistakes- dietary and lifestyle. Thanks to the internet, this has gone for a toss. Accepting your body is good but if you are heading in to diabetes, that’s not body love. People who want to help fat people out are being shamed instead.  If you are fat and sick of it, do something. You have to start from somewhere and sharing ‘body love memes’ doesn’t count as a start.
A Severe Disregard For Nutrition And Worsening Dietary Choices © Thinkstock
Corporation will continue making junk food but what the hell, they are not shoving it down your throat; you are. The slaves to junk food have made themselves that. Home cooked food is neglect for preservative added packaged food and selling stupid detox water is a multi-million dollar business now.  It’s simple, there’s intentional disregard for nutrition which reflects in the younger populace of our generation. Aren’t we wise enough to make sensible dietary choices? Ask yourself this question.

We all prayed and waited for a decent action movie this decade. With a glut of cookie cutter films like the latest Die Hard movies (which were absolute crap, BTW), audiences around the world were waiting with baited breath for a balls to the wall, all ass-kicking action fest. That prayer was answered in the form of John Wick in 2014. It was a true return to form for Keanu Reeves as he shot, battered, sliced and quartered his way through the Russian mafia in an action film that truly redefined the genre.

Seeing that the first film was an incredible success, the studio executives decided to bring back the hit-man with a grudge in John Wick 2 and we can’t thank them enough. The new trailer for the film is out and it looks freaking glorious! There’s tons of shooting, driving and general mayhem causing antics that John Wick 2 looks like the sleeper hit of 2017.

So, strap yourselves in and check out the excellent trailer below! All hail the return of Wick.

Year 2016 has been quiet challenging for the Indian army. The enemies on the eastern and western borders have taken to asymmetrical and hybrid warfare, resulting in one of the bloodiest years for the Indian armed forces. This change in strategy from those looking to bleed India by a thousand cuts has demanded an offensive defense policy being spearheaded by NSA Ajit Doval. And so, the selection of the next Indian army chief is a reflection of the continuation of the same strategy.
    © Twitter
Bipin Singh Rawat, who was chosen as the next Indian army chief superseding two senior officers, is one of the most accomplished commanders; battle-hardened to tackle the twin threat of cross border terrorism and LoC skirmishes. That he has been the operational brains behind some of the most recent Indian strikes on enemy territory shows that he was indeed the correct choice for India’s army chief.
Rawat comes from a background of on-field operations. Back in June 2015, he was given the task of avenging the death of 18 Indian soldiers who were ambushed by the Naga Rebels in Manipur. The rebels, who crossed over to Myanmar, didn’t know what hit them when an immediate hot pursuit was carried out by the Indian army inside the rebels’ territory across the border. One of the things which stood out in those strikes was the intelligence preparedness and Rawat was credited for a clean operation by the Para Commandos.
    © Pibmumbai
General Rawat is from a military background and his father was a lieutenant general in the Indian army too. He joined the Indian army in December 1978 and was awarded the sword of honor after graduating from the Indian Military Academy the same year. Like his predecessor Dalbir Singh, Rawat too belongs to Gorkha Rifles. He was recently appointed as the vice-chief of army.
What tipped the scales in favor of Gen. Rawat was his familiarity within the government of the day and operational closeness with the Defence Ministry. Just three weeks after he took over as the Vice-Chief, the Indian army carried out the surgical strikes against Pakistan sponsored terrorist havens across the LoC. The Director General Of Military Operations reports to the vice-chief and in that sense it made Gen. Rawat a key figure in decision-making during that time.
    © Twitter
Like many top commanders in the Indian army, Bipin Rawat has had international experience of heading the Indian banner in a UN Peacekeeping operation in Congo in 2008. During his time in Congo, the Indian brigade changed its approach from that of a velvet glove to an iron fist. The same can be expected during his tenure as the Indian Army Chief because whatever assignments he has taken over the past few decades of his service, the General has had a no-nonsense approach to unprovoked aggression.

‘Ok Jaanu’, Shaad Ali’s remake of the South Indian film ‘OK Kanmani’ that had every critic raving about it, is about two young lovers who decide to live in, knowing that they will soon part ways and never meet again. The remake stars Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur in the main lead.
‘Ok Jaanu’ has left people hating on Badshah for revisiting the 90s classic ‘Humma Humma’ and adding his nonsensical rap to it.
But, the makers just released the video of the title track and it is definitely compensating for all the ‘Humma Humma’ damage. Composed by A.R. Rahman and penned by Gulzar, the song is a Hindi version of Mental Manadhil from ‘Ok Kanmani’. Now of course, if you love the original, this one might disappoint but objectively speaking, the ‘Ok Jaanu’ title track does deserve a big thumbs up. Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Kapoor might have lacked chemistry in ‘Humma Humma’ but here, the two seem to be having the best time of their lives on a bike ride across the city. If nothing else, this song will give you dating goals!
Just in case you haven’t heard the original one, here it is!

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when something goes wrong or any mishap happens? Rectify the problem and ensure that it never happens again, right? But, in a rather bizarre incident, Pakistan’s national carrier PIA sacrificed a black goat at the runway before the takeoff of an ATR-42 aircraft. This move comes days after a plane crash that killed over 45 people. The French-built Turboprop aircrafts were grounded after the incident.
    © Flickr/ILRI
“The officials sacrificed a goat yesterday as a gesture of gratitude as the ATR aircraft resumed flight operations,” a PIA official said. Yes, you heard that right! Seriously, what era are we living in? Just when we thought that those days when people worshiped rain gods to shower blessings on us were gone, such incidents only make us question logic. The official further clarified that this was not a management-level decision.
    © Wikimedia
On December 7, one of the ATR-42 flights crashed near Havelian and killed all 47 people on board. Post the incident, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) grounded the fleet until all the aircrafts were subjected to shakedown tests and cleared for flight operations. Ever since the fleet was grounded, the PIA’s planes were very badly affected. Having said that, it’s really weird that officials believe in such superstitions, and we hope they have double-checked the aircraft and not just depending on the poor goat’s soul for the safety of their passengers.

Aleppo is burning and so are humanity’s hopes for a better future for Syria. In a terrifying incident, a 22-year-old assassin shot dead Andrei Karlov, Russia’s ambassador to Turkey, in an art gallery in Ankara. The ambassador was in the midst of a speech in the art gallery when the assassin, identified as Mevlut Mert Altintas, opened fire on him, telling him “We die in Aleppo, you die here.”

The assassin, who worked as a riot squad police officer in Ankara for 2 years, shouted ‘Revenge for Syria and Aleppo’, standing over the dead body of the ambassador. He didn’t claim any sides – whether it was the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant or the rebels. He was killed by the police on the spot.

In the ongoing clash in Syria, Russia has taken a stand in support of President Bashar al-Assad and talks are on about what roles Russia, Iran and Turkey would play in the future of Syria. In 2015, a Russian jet had been shot down by Turkish air force straining the relation between the two countries, who found themselves supporting opposing sides in the Syrian civil war. But diplomatic talks have been going on between the two nations, and efforts to end the violence in Syria are in progress.

Cricket is one of the most popular sports in the sub-continent. The sport has no boundaries and the fan-following of cricket stars has transcended over national borders.
Sachin Tendulkar's artistry with the willow earned him zillions of fans, not only in India, but all over the world. A fan is not bogged down by the nationality of the cricketer before worshipping them. After all, it's just a sport. Isn’t it?
So, the news of Shahid Afridi's Indian fan getting arrested in Assam is just appalling. A youth named Ripon Chowdhury was apprehended by the local police for donning a Pakistani cricket team jersey with Afridi's name on the back during a cricket match in Hailakandi.
Assam youth, a Shahid Afridi fan arrested for wearing Pakistan Jersey after a complaint by youth wing of BJP. FIR registrd u/s120(B),294 IPC pic.twitter.com/Vgf8ZhPT3U
    — Aman Wadud (@AmanWadud) December 18, 2016 A complaint was filed by the youth wing of the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). According to media reports, the local Bhartiya Yuva Morcha committee had lodged an FIR against the youth, deeming his act as anti-national. The FIR was filed against Chowdhury under section 120 (B), 294 of the Indian Penal Code.
Now, that's the perfect example of blowing things out of proportion.
If wearing a jersey of a sportsperson who plays for a different country is a crime, then all those who proudly wear Lionel Messi's Argentinian tee should also be arrested for being anti-national. Yes, we are bound by our nationalities to support the country's cause, but that shouldn't overshadow our fundamental rights.
Earlier this year in February, a similar incident came to light after a Virat Kohli's Pakistani fan was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment. On 25 January, Umer Daraz had hoisted the Indian tri-colour on the rooftop of his house, about 200 kilometres from Lahore.
    © Twitter
"I am a big fan of Virat Kohli. I support the Indian team because of Kohli. Hoisting of the Indian flag on the rooftop of my house only shows my love for the Indian cricketer," Daraz, who was later released on bail, had said.
Amid political tensions between India and Pakistan, the citizens of the two countries don't shy away from taking a dig at each other. So after the Umer Daraz case surfaced, the Indian cricket fans rallied behind him while ridiculing Pakistan. But, the recent arrest of a youth in Assam only shows that we are probably no different than our neighbour.
Playing the political cards in the name of nationalism is the last thing India needs, especially at the helm of PM Narendra Modi who strongly advocates the philosophy of bringing back 'Achhe Din' in the country.

A coach plays a pivotal role in the development of your physique. The path he pushes you on can get you in the best shape and health of your life or in a complete mess. That’s why training under a good coach is just as mandatory as is consuming protein post workout. Here are 8 signs that bring forth a bad coach.
    1. Never Teaching Any Compound Lifts Because compound lifts are difficult to teach and requires plenty of technical details, a lot of novice trainers look over them. Trainers, who don’t know shit about techniques, will always try to make you do all the machine work. Compound movements are the foundation bodybuilding and strength gains.
    © YouTube
    2. Always Trying To Sell Supplements I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen trainers recommending some XYZ supplement to a rookie who hasn’t even spent a week or a month in the gym. If not directly, they will recommend you a shop, from where they’ll probably get a cut. Come on now, REPEAT WITH ME, “right training protocol and diet makes up for 90% of your Results”.
    3. Tells You To Eat Whatever You See Diets are always designed keeping in mind a person’s lifestyle, routine and habits. Most of the times there’s absolutely no need to increase the frequency of food to more than 3-5 times a day. Splitting these meals in 8, 10, 12 will only make you live in the kitchen the entire Day. Total calories consumed in 3-4 meals matter more than splitting it into 6-8 and making the process more complex.
    4. Not Paying Attention To Your Injuries And Health Conditions Telling you to bench press without knowing if you have/had a shoulder injury, making you squat or deadlift with an already injured back, or making you do circuit training type workouts if you have a heart condition are the brightest signs of a dumb trainer.
    © YouTube
    5. Believes In Spot Reduction Spot reduction is the attempt to remove subcutaneous body fat stores from specific areas of the body by performing exercises that target those areas. Hence, making you do 100s of crunches, sit-ups in order to lose belly fat. Remember guys, it’s a myth. No wonder why we see tons of people in gyms wasting time, doing all this.
    6. Never Answers Your Queries Or Says He Will Get Back To You But Never Does If you have hired a personal trainer, you are entitled to ask any query about your training program or diet. If he avoids the question, you better avoid paying him from next time onwards.
    © YouTube
    7.  Your Trainer Tries To “Hang Out With You” Outside the Gym There are tons of great trainers. Unfortunately, there are also loads of pervert trainers who use try finding excuses to date/sleep with the women they train. I’m explicitly calling out men here. Beware, they do exist!
    8. Not In Shape Although they are not expected to look like a bodybuilder or physique model but a basic level of fitness and shape must be there so that he can inspire you as well. How will you, as a client, be motivated to work out if your trainer is having a paunch?

The second trailer of ‘Kaabil’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam is out and thank God, it’s so much better than the first one, which was largely just a cringefest.
The second trailer has Hrithik Roshan getting pretty damn serious about taking revenge. The dialogues are power-packed and this one has a lot more action. TV superstars Rohit Roy and Ronit Roy play antagonists and it will be amazing to see them getting their ass kicked by Hrithik Roshan. Directed by Sanjay Gupta, ‘Kaabil’ is slated to release on January 25th, 2017. Yes, the same day as Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s break up might have been an unpleasant experience for the both of them but their latest film together ‘Jagga Jasoos’ is the most talked about film in Bollywood right now, for obvious reasons, of course. The makers had strategically kept the film under wraps and that’s why nobody seems to really understand what’s happening in the trailer of ‘Jagga Jasoos’. The cinematography seems to be top notch and the music is of course, praise worthy.
    © Hotstar
Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif look straight out of a dream and the visuals are breathtaking, It’s being said that ‘Jagga Jasoos’ is an adventure film and there are theories that suggest Ranbir and Katrina are aliens in the film. The bizarre visuals in the film, like the one where they ride ostriches in a huge field, kinda support the claims. The film also reminds one of Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi’ and that definitely is a great sign.

OnePlus has been releasing some hard to ignore phones in 2016 and they have decided to manufacture the OnePlus 3T in India to meet the high demand. OnePlus India general, Vikas Agarwal, told Reuters that the manufacturing for the phone will commence next quarter as they consider the Indian market as one of the most important ones when planning their marketing and sales strategies.
    © BCCL
India contributes to at least one-third of OnePlus’s global sales and since the OnePlus 3T went on sale, they got over 2 lakh registrations for the phone.  OnePlus currently import their products to India, however, they believe the recent decision to manufacture products locally will be able to attenuate supply and demand constraints.
    © BCCL
Agarwal believes that OnePlus has lost over 30 Percent of sales thanks to the lack of availability of the phone. Although OnePlus has not elaborated on their manufacturing partners and suppliers yet, it looks like Foxconn will be a firm favourite. OnePlus will be looking to establish an experience centre in Bangalore as soon as early 2017. This experience centre will let potential buyers go hands-on with OnePlus products.

Napoleon Hill once said “Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it!” and 26-year-old Ram Chandra goes on to prove exactly that. Chandra is a software engineer working at Google and is based in Seattle, while his father, Tejaram Sankhla works as a labourer in Rajasthan’s Sojat town.
50-year-old Tejaram loads henna onto trucks and earns somewhere between Rs. 100 to Rs. 400 a day. Ram’s mother worked as a labourer at construction sites as well but after he got a job, she looks after the 1.5-acre farmland they bought with Ram’s salary. “He was bright since childhood. We knew that he will improve the family’s fortunes some day,” said the proud mother of Ram Chandra.
    © Facebook
Just like other kids who want their parents to relax once they start working, Ram too wants his father to take life easy; however, his father wants to continue working since he has worked his entire life and feels useless without anything to do. Speaking to the Hindustan Times from the US, Ram said “I keep telling him not to work but he doesn’t listen to me.” To help the students preparing for the IIT entrance exams, Ram even took a Facebook Live session with the students of a Kota coaching institute. Ram is an alumnus of IIT-Roorkee (2009 batch).
    © Pixabay
Recalling his college days, Ram added how there were people who helped him pay his first semester fees and counseling fees. He even mentioned how they bought a suitcase and clothes for him to wear in college, and there were some who raised nearly Rs. 30,000 to buy a laptop for him. To help his family lead a better lifestyle, he even built a kitchen for his parents with the Rs. 70,000 scholarship amount he received from college. Earlier, he used to cook dinner on an earthen stove.
Talking about his interaction with the students he said, “Interacting with students at this time when they are halfway through the preparation is important because they need motivation for next three months before they take India’s toughest competitive exam.” We totally agree with him, in a tense environment where everyone is racing ahead to get a seat in such coveted institutes, words of success boosts their morale. In October last year, he taught at an orphanage in Kota for a month. Ram wants to help the students; maybe it’s his way of doing his bit for the society. In fact, he used his scholarship to send his younger sister to Jodhpur to prepare for the engineering entrance exams. Talking about his siblings, his brother dropped out of school after he failed class 8 thrice and now works at a shoe shop in Pune, whereas his sister failed her B.Sc exams and now stays at home.

If you think things were rosy for him, let ustell you this – he picked up English language by watching English movies and repeating the dialogues using the subtitles. If that doesn’t count for hard work and dedication, we wonder what does? What’s more, Ram wants to become a social worker and says that he will work until his family becomes financially secure. After that he will start living with his family in Sojat. His journey from a village in India to the Google campus is the reward for a life of hard work and a lesson to everyone that there is nothing that can’t be achieved if you believe hard enough.

The daughter of DLF Chairman KP Singh, Renuka Talwar, has purchased a bungalow on Prithviraj Road for Rs 435 crore in one of the biggest property deals in Lutyens' Delhi, according to sources.
    © BCCL
The house belonged to Kamal Taneja who is in fact the managing director of real estate developer TDI Infracorp. It is located on a 4,925 sq metre plot, and has a built up area of around 1,189 square metres. Taneja sold it for Rs 8.8 lakh per sq m. Based on current circle rates, its value is around Rs 383 crore.
Renuka Talwar is married to GS Talwar, non-executive Director at DLF. Her father, the billionaire, Mr. Singh, already owns two bungalows on Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road in Lutyens' Delhi. Taneja has decided not to comment on this piece of news and there was no response to the questions sent to Singh and Talwar.
    © BCCL
The last big transaction on Prithviraj Road was the purchase by Shahi Exports' Harish Ahuja of a 2,650 sq/m plot with about 836 sq/m of built-up area for Rs 173 crore in September 2015 at Rs 6.53 lakh per sq m.
"This year has been a little dull for Lutyens' Delhi area. There is a price mismatch happening between sellers and buyers," said Santhosh Kumar, CEO, operations, JLL India. Last year's deals include Dabur Group Chairman emeritus VC Burman's purchase of a bungalow in Golf Links for Rs 160 crore in December, while Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman of the Essel Group bought a 2.8 acre property on Bhagwan Das Road for Rs 304 crore. Rajiv Rattan, co-founder of the Indiabulls Group, purchased a 2,920 sq yard bungalow on Amrita Shergill Marg for Rs 220 crore in September last year, while Kabul Chawla of real estate firm BPTP sold a 575 sq yard bungalow in Golf Links for Rs 65 crore.
So while you’re busting your ass waiting for cash in a massive line, always remember that the demonetization scheme does not affect these people. They were smart enough to make a ton of money and they’re smart enough to know how to keep the government away!

If somebody asks you how much moolah you have in your bank account after all the slogging you've done this year, what will be your answer? Do you spend like crazy and end up broke every last week of the month or do you save every penny by cutting down on your entertainment (of course with regrets)? Managing your wallet without compromising on fun can be a bit challenging but it's certainly not a tough deal. Here are some smart ways to save money and ensure that your wallet grows with every move you make.
    1. Follow The 50/20/30 Rule © Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images
This is a mantra that will help you control your wallet like a boss. Spend 50% of your monthly income on essential expenses like rent, loans and transportation, 30% on lifestyle choices like eating out and shopping, and the remaining 20% on savings. Stick to this rule and start prioritizing your spends.
    2. Open Up Separate Accounts Which You Can Use For Bills, Casual Spendings And Savings © Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images
So once you get your salary, you can follow the above 50/20/30 rule by actually depositing money to three different accounts. While one account can be for your bills and essential expenses, the other two can be for your casual splurges and savings respectively.
    3. Transfer A Fixed Amount Of Money Every Month To An Account For Which The ATM Card Isn’t Activated © Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images
This is a great way to trick yourself! Don’t activate the ATM card for the accounts in which you keep your savings. Avoid online money transactions too and simply pretend that it doesn’t exist.
    4. Hunt For Coupon Deals Whenever You Need To Hangout © Pexels
Since we tend to spend a major chunk of our money on food and entertainment, doing it wisely will  really help. Hunt for coupon deals and promo codes online. If you are lucky, you might end up getting huge discounts.
    5. Use Cash-Back Services On E-Wallets  © Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images
This is a major money-saving top where you feel instantly rich when your cash is credited back to your account. You can use the same amount for something essential. How cool is that?
    6. Use Budgeting Apps To Help You Keep A Track Of Your Expenses   © Pexels
Keeping a mental note of money matters can be a tad difficult, so that’s where technology comes in. Download some budget tracking apps, and efficiently manage your expenses.
    7. Invest It In A Sustainable Financial Plan © Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images
When it comes to money, ‘investing’ is certainly a better thing to do than ‘saving’ which is why you need to find a sustainable financial plan. One of the best places to invest is in SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans). Check out this Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund tool which helps you plan and customizes SIPs as per your needs; be it for wealth, retirement or your child’s education. Start planning now, because good things come to those who plan.

After England amassed a mammoth total of 477 runs in the first innings, none of the cricket pundits or even the fans could have imagined India to respond  the way they did to strengthen their position in the inconsequential fifth Test in Chennai.
Scoring over 750 runs, the Virat Kohli-led side came out strong to counter their opposition. Opening batsmen KL Rahul (199) and Parthiv Patel (71) gave the home side a solid start but it was the middle-order batsman and Test newbie, Karun Nair, who stole the show.
The right-hander, playing only his third Test, notched up a blistering triple hundred to grab the spotlight from India's proven and more popular stars. The 25-year-old became only the second Indian batsman after Virender Sehwag to slam a triple ton in Test matches.
    © BCCL
The Karnataka batsman achieved the feat in the 191st over after cutting the ball past point for a boundary. In the process, Nair also became the third player in Test history, and the first Indian, to turn his maiden hundred into a triple century.
With Nair achieving his triple hundred, captain Kohli quickly declared India's first innings at a whopping 759/7 - their highest and the seventh highest (overall) Test tally of all time. They were only seven runs away from breaking into the top five.
For England, it was the highest total they have ever conceded in their Test history.

Whether it was the T20 World Cup in cricket or the pulsating Euro Cup in football, the year 2016 bore witness to some of the biggest events in the world of sports.
Marked with some sensational team and individual performances, the year was filled with a dose excitement and entertainment for the sports fanatics across the globe.
But, while the fans were cheering and celebrating for their favourite sportspersons, some legends of their trade have sadly passed away over the last 12 months.
With the New Year looming, we take a look back at some of the notable names the world of sports has lost in 2016:
    Muhammad Ali © BCCL
One of the most iconic sporting heroes of the 20th century, Muhammad Ali lost his long-battle against Parkinson's disease and passed away on 3 June this year. The boxing legend was celebrated as much for his three world heavyweight titles as for his battles outside the ring.
Vilified for his refusal to serve in Vietnam and his conversion to Islam, Ali later earned accolades as a civil rights activist. In a career spanning from 1960 to 1981, Ali left his time on boxing with a mighty record of 56-5.
Married four times, Ali is survived by seven daughters and two sons. Thousands of his fans turned up in his hometown of Louisville to bid farewell where he was eulogised by former US president Bill Clinton as "a universal soldier for our common humanity".
    Johan Cruyff © BCCL
The football fraternity witnessed heartbreak this year after one of its master practitioners, Johan Cruyff, lost his battle against cancer earlier in March. The Dutch legend, who epitomised the all-out attack Total Football system, revealed in October last year that he had lung cancer.
Cruyff won three European Cups as a player with Ajax and three Ballon d'Or titles in 1971 (Ajax), 1973 (Barcelona) and 1974 (Barcelona), where he starred from 1973 to 1978. As a coach, he also led Barcelona to their maiden European Cup title in 1992.
He was one of the all-time greats alongside Diego Maradona, Pele, Michel Platini, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Branded as a heavy smoker, Cruyff underwent a heart bypass surgery in 1991 and started sucking lollipops on the touchline during Barcelona matches.
    Martin Crowe © BCCL
New Zealand cricket great Martin Crowe passed away in March this year. The former Kiwi cricketer was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma in October 2012 and underwent treatment for the cancer which returned in September 2014. His condition was identified as double-hit lymphoma, a rare and aggressive blood disease.
Crowe chose not to continue with chemotherapy, opting to stay at home as he managed his illness with natural remedies. He said that his diagnosis had helped him realise what was important in life. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Downes,  daughter Emma and step-children Hilton and Jasmine.
The former Black Caps captain scored 17 hundreds in 77 Tests and was considered one of the greatest batsmen of his generation, leading his country between 1990 and 1993. In 1991, Crowe was named New Zealand sportsman of the year and was also awarded an MBE for services to cricket.
    Carlos Alberto © BCCL
Brazil's 1970 World Cup-winning captain, Carlos Alberto, died after suffering a heart-attack on 26 September. The right-back starred alongside Pele, Tostao, Jairzinho and Rivelino in the legendary Brazil side that hammered Italy 4-1 in the World Cup final.

Running onto a Pele pass and smashing in a thunderous right-footed shot, Alberto scored one of the best World Cup goals in the Mexico City final. Lauded as one of the best defenders of all time, he won 53 caps for his national team, scoring eight goals in the process. When he hung up his boots in 1982, Alberto was considered one of the greatest Brazilians to ever play the game.
Inducted by FIFA in a list of the 100 greatest living players in 2004, Alberto leaves one of the most decorated careers, both on and off the pitch, the game has ever seen.
    Arnold Palmer © Reuters
One of golf's greatest players of all time, Arnold Palmer passed away in September this year. The seven-time major winner who brought golf to the masses, died in Pittsburgh from heart complications.
Palmer led the PGA Tour money list four times, and was the first player to win more than $100,000 in a single season. He played on six Ryder Cup teams, and was the winning captain twice. He is also credited with conceiving the modern Grand Slam of the Masters, US Open, British Open and PGA Championship.
He won the Masters four times, the British Open twice and the US Open once. In 2012, Palmer was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, becoming only the sixth athlete to receive the honour. Coupled with the Presidential Medal of Freedom that he was awarded in 2004, Palmer held both the highest honours that the US can give to a civilian.
    Chapecoense FC team © Reuters
In what was meant to be a monumental moment in the Chapecoense football club's history, quickly turned into a disaster after the chartered plane carrying members of the Brazilian team crashed on 28 November.
The Lamia 2933 flight, carrying 77 people on board, crashed near the Colombian city of Medellin. The tragic crash led to the demise of 71 players, technical staff, sports journalists and crew members. Only six individuals managed to survive the horrific crash.
The team was on its way to compete in the first-leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional. Regardless of the result, reaching the final of South America's second-most prestigious continental competition was an immeasurable achievement for a club like Chapecoense - a side which, just seven years ago, played its football in Brazil's fourth division.

Karun Nair became only the second Indian test batsman to score a triple hundred after Virender Sehwag who has two triple hundreds to his name. Nair reached his triple century in just 381 balls scoring at a strike rate of 79.5.
    © BCCL
Nair was unlucky in his first few innings as he was run-out in an unfortunate fashion and then was the victim of a DRS review. He has become the sixth youngest to score a triple century and also only the third batsman in the history of the game to convert his maiden hundred into a triple hundred.
Coming in to bat on the fourth day Nair, who was on 71 at the start of play, played fluently and made the bowlers toil with his sweep and reverse sweeps as it became clear by lunch that the Indian team was headed for a big lead. Nair was let off on one occasion on day four but was quick to gather his thoughts and built beautifully on his double hundred.
    © BCCL
Nair was interestingly dropped on 34 by Cook in the slips on day three and that, in hindsight, proved fatal for the England team. The English team will have to play out a tremendous blockathon on day five in Chennai to earn a draw. At this moment though, India are taking the Englishmen to the cleaners.

Even though it might seem that smartphones are enjoying a boom in the Indian smartphone market, one of the few Chinese mobile companies is calling it quits. Acer, have inevitably decided that they will no longer sell mobile phones in India.
    © BCCL
The Taiwan-based company wants to focus on its growing laptop and other hardware business in India and want to put a hold on sales of Acer phones in India for the time being.
India is the fastest growing market when it comes to mobile phones as we see new entrants in the market every day.  Chinese companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi and other Indian brands have enjoyed high volume sales in India especially when they participate in flash sales on e-commerce websites. However, Acer never really took part in the flash sale model, which resulted in them selling only 30,000 phones this year. If compared to Xiaomi, they have managed to sell over 3 million units between July and September alone.
    © BCCL
Acer India didn’t even bother to introduce a new flagship phone in India that might have helped their sales and footing in the smartphone industry. They lacked the proper distribution to penetrate the market, which also resulted in poor sales. Even though Acer might have launched a range of Android and Windows phones with ancient specs, they still remained dubious about their marketing strategies.
I hope you know what you’re doing Acer India?

If you’ve ever played secret Santa in office, you’d know the joy of having a generous gifter as your secret santa. Popular website Reddit organizes a worldwide ‘Secret Santa’ program, where people are randomly matched with each other as their secret Santas. Amazing, isn’t it? Imagine receiving a gift from a stranger across the borders. A pretty good opportunity for a love story to start, eh?
But what actually happened is something even more interesting than a love story. A Reddit user by the name Aerrix got the biggest surprise of her life when she found out that her secret Santa was Bill Gates. Bill Microsoft Gates. How incredibly lucky is that?!
    © Reddit
And she had no clue till the time she opened the huge gift box that arrived at her doorstep. The first thing she saw after opening the box was a picture of Bill Gates smiling at her.
    © Reddit
Now participants in the Reddit gift exchange gift according to the hobbies and likes mentioned on the user’s profiles. Aerrix had talked about her love for Nintendo, the Legend of Zelda series, Harry Potter and video games:  “I absolutely love the Legend of Zelda series and everything Mario, I just love Nintendo in general. I also LOVE The Little Mermaid, Harry Potter, League of Legends…video games!!” And Mr Bill Gates was paying real close attention when selecting her gifts.

From a Minecraft edition XBOX ONE with wireless controllers (with a handwritten note from Mr Gates himself!),

To the cutest customized Zelda mittens for her and her dog

There were the raddest Harry Potter slippers for lucky woman Aerrix

That’s not all – there was a Nintendo NES Classic edition game console, lots of movies like ‘The Martian’ and ‘The End Of The Tour’, Tomb Raider video games; all waiting for her inside the box!

The list of gifts was long and there was a cookbook, a Zelda blanket among others. Santa Gates did the cutest thing when he also sent her a photoshopped and framed picture of himself with the couple.

She thanked her secret Santa on Reddit and clearly, was still over the moon.

Mr Gates sure knows how to make people feel special. Gotta learn it from the master!

Sanju Baba has always been in the headlines for something or the other and the controversies revolving around him have been endless. After being released from jail this year, he is all set to bounce back in Bollywood.
    © Facebook
He was recently in Delhi for an event, where he opened up about his drug addiction and made some claims that shocked everyone. He said- "I was already on drugs when my mother was being treated for cancer.’Rocky' (his debut film) was being made and I remember that I was so addicted that once I travelled with 1kg heroin hidden in my shoes. My two sisters were also with me on the same flight. At that time, checking at airports was not so strict. Today, when I think about the incident, I get scared. Main pakda jaata toh theek tha, but what about my sisters? Drugs do this to you. You don't care about family or anything else."
    © Facebook
He said that his shy nature was what led him to drugs. "I started taking drugs because main ladkiyon se baat nahi kar pata tha. Somebody told me that if you try this, you will be able to talk to women, so I tried it and it worked. What I want to tell youngsters today is that I have gone through a lot because of substance abuse. It is better to be high on life than on any substance. Do good work and get appreciated, there is no better high than that in life."
    © Facebook
He even said that, before dying, his father said that he was not proud of him. “I have learnt a lot in these years. It has taught me not to be brash. I have learnt to respect the law in our country and also have learnt about it. I think every citizen should know about the law of the country.”
He has also been very vocal about his time in jail. This is what he had to say- “They imprison you mentally more than physically. They tell you what to do and what not do in prison. I did not get any VIP treatment. In fact I was treated worse than normal inmates as everyone thought I was getting special treatment. The worse thing about jail was the food; it was terrible and not edible at all."
    © Facebook
It was revealed earlier this year that Rajkumar Hirani was all armed to make a biopic on Baba’s life and Ranbir Kapoor was going to be portraying Sanjay. "Meri life kaafi interesting hogi ki Raju Hirani saab jaise director ko pasand aayi. Ranbir is playing me, aur unki haalat kafi kaharab hai. Unka mujhe roz phone aata hai. He wants to spend days and weeks with me, but I can't spend more than half an hour with anybody. I have been trying to avoid him; it is a difficult role for him to play. He is a fine actor though."
Whatever his flaws may be, at least he has the guts to admit his mistakes and open up to the world about his story.

A few months ago, we shed light on what the ‘Dark Web’ actually is and what are the types of items that are being sold on the elusive and mysterious platform. In 2013, more than a billion Yahoo accounts were hacked and personal information like passwords, phone numbers, backup email addresses, and security questions were stolen.
It turns out that all this data is now available to buy on the Dark Web according to an Internet security firm called InfoArmor. They discovered that the data that was compromised on sale and claims that three parties have already bought huge chunks of the data for $300,000 each.
However, since the information is now public and the price for the stolen data will fall, all of the info is now up for grabs. Since the Dark Web is an encrypted network, many random buyers can easily buy the data and tracing them will be really difficult due to the nature of the ecosystem of the Dark Web, which encourages anonymity.
Since the August 2013 hack, Yahoo learned that there was a separate breach of their data, which compromised at least 500 million accounts, and Yahoo called it a “state-sponsored attack”.
InfoArmor identified the hackers who were responsible for the breach as cyber criminals based in Easter Europe. The hacker group who dub themselves ‘Group E’, were also responsible for hacking Dropbox, VK.com and Tumblr. However, InfoArmor believes that the hacker group did not hack Yahoo for a foreign government.
Group E as an organisation earns money primarily by selling stolen data to spammers and they have proof that some of the data was sold to two spammers and one potentially a state-sponsored party or foreign intelligence agency."
These two major breaches might cause the Verizon-Yahoo deal to fall apart as Verizon is ready to pay $4.8 billion dollars for the acquisition.
Yahoo users are expected to change passwords, security questions as soon as possible as some of these hackers can phish your account for contacts and other personal information. Hackers can use this data to pose as a friend or a business to get clicks on a malicious link that would end up sharing, even more, corrupt data.

Real Madrid romped to their second Club World Cup title after getting the better of Japan's Kashima Antlers in the summit clash in Yokohama. Riding on the heroics of their star-player Cristiano Ronaldo, the Spanish giants secured a 4-2 win after being dragged into extra-time by the spirited Asian side.
Ronaldo, who has scored 16 goals in 22 appearances for Real Madrid this season, notched up a pivotal hat-trick to guide Zinedine Zidane's side to an emphatic victory. After scoring his side's second goal from the penalty spot, the Portugal captain settled the matter with a brace of fine finishes in the additional half-hour.
