Shark Tank India is one of the most popular TV series in India right now. Besides the unique and interesting concept of the show, it is highly entertaining too. We didn’t learn this much about business and investing in MBA as we did watching this show.

The hype for the show is evident from memes on social media to rumours and controversies in the entertainment world. One such rumour had it that one of the sharks, Anupam Mittal who’s the CEO and founder of Shaadi.com, People Group, is also one of the producers of the show.

Mittal cleared the air and dismissed the rumours of being the producer, stating a very hilarious reason of why this is untrue. He said that if he was the producer, he wouldn’t keep himself starving for hours while shooting, which apparently happens to the sharks too often on the sets.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan he said, “Yeh maine khud suna hai and maine kaha, ‘Bhai, jo aadmi produce karega show, woh khudko khana nahi khilayega kya?’ Yeh Sony wale log mujhe khane nahi dete, sone nahi dete, shoot pe shoot karate hai, bhookha rakhte hai (I heard this rumour myself and said, ‘Brother, why would someone who produces the show keep himself hungry?’ The people from Sony don’t let me eat, they don’t let me sleep. They make me shoot all day and keep me starving).”

He also joked that he ends up investing in food companies because the food looks more interesting and appealing when one is hungry. “Aadhe contestants food ki companies leke aate hai aur aadmi ko jab bhookh lagti hai toh khana zyada interesting lagte hai, aur paise daal dete ho. Main khud ko thodi aise karunga (Half the contestants who come to the show own food companies and when one is hungry, food looks more interesting and one tends to put money on it. Why would I do that to myself?).”

We agree. He’s clearly not the producer of the show. Just a shark, and a hungry one at that most of the times.
