IPL 2022 auctioneer Hugh Edmeades suddenly collapsed and fell on the ground along with the podium during the live broadcast of the mega auction in Bengaluru on February 12, 2022. Everyone present at the venue was caught by surprise followed by expressions of horror and fear clouding their faces.

It happened during the third set of the auction when a bidding war was going on between multiple franchises for Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Edmedeas, as usual, was creating a sense of excitement in the air, asking the teams to continuously raise their hands and continue to add their value to the bidding war. Suddenly there was a loud thud and people at the venue started shouting in panic.

Even the cameraman was puzzled as to what had just happened. People who were watching the event live on television or online on HotStar were able to see the shocked face of Suhana Khan, the daughter of Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, who was sitting at the Kolkata Knight Riders’ table

The decision-makers sitting at the table of the Royal Challengers Bangalore were the first to see Edmedeas fall off the stage and covering their eyes and bowing their heads down in trepidation. 

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, who had suffered a mild heart attack and had undergone a primary angioplasty last year in January, was also seen with his jaw half-open and in absolute terror as he stood on the stage staring at the auctioneer.

After about 10-20 seconds of complete panic, the live broadcast from Bengaluru was finally taken off the air and was replaced with the highlight footage of the IPL 2021 Final between the Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

Unfortunately, before stopping the broadcast, the cameraman did pan to the place where Edmedeas was lying motionless as people rushed to him, unsure of how to help him. As a result, a lot of people were able to take screenshots and videos that are now all over the internet. For the sake of Edmedeas’ privacy, we request everyone to stop sharing the pictures of the incident and urge those who have already shared them, to kindly remove them.
