‘Sacrifice’ is one concept that I am often reminded of by my boss, who thinks nothing great in life is ever achieved without giving something up. 

And while for me, that means extra sleep and a perfect 6/6 vision (considering I am always reading on the screen), for a certain athlete, it meant sacrificing the well-being of his *****!

Cross-country skier Remi Lindholm went through something extremely rare and painful while racing in the 50-km mass start event at the Beijing Games. 

The race that had already been shortened to 30Kms owing to the extreme weather conditions, ended up giving Skier Remi Lindholm a lot more to remember than just skiing. 

"You can guess which body part was a little bit frozen when I finished (the men's Olympic 50km race) ... it was one of the worst competitions I've been in. It was just about battling through," Lindholm said.

And we can only imagine the pain he must’ve endured to finish the race in such a situation. And this happened after the race had already been shortened by 20 Kms and also delayed by the organizers. 

And no matter how many protective gears and layers like thin suits, underlayers, as well as plasters to cover their faces and ears that the players had donned, nothing could prevent the icy accident. 

Remi Lindholm also shared how the real pain kicked in after the heat pack had started un-freezing his *****. He shared, “When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable.”

And what is equally bizarre is that an incident of this nature wasn’t the first of its kind to happen. 

Reports suggest that a similar incident took place last year in the 2021 competition in Ruka, Finland. Guess, a frozen ***** is not that uncommon, after all!

As far as the race is considered, Remi finished 28th out of 61 participants, but safe to say, his name will go down in history. If not for winning, then for almost losing something extremely valuable!
