Watch: Fans Invade Pitch To 'Click Selfie' With Kohli & It Shows His Craze Is Still High

Virat Kohli is one of the most popular cricketers in the world among active players.Β

The former India captain has not scored a century in his last 72 innings in international cricket that saw his batting average in Tests dip below 50 for the first time in nearly five years but his popularity still hasn't dipped one bit.Β

In the ongoing second Test between India and Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli failed to get a big score but more than the bowling, it was the pitch in Bengaluru that played its tricks and the 33-year-old could only manage to score just 36 runs across two innings.Β

On both occasions, Kohli got out to a ball that kept low and turned sharply.Β

On Day 2 of the Test match, a few fans breached security and invaded the pitch to take a selfie with Kohli. Soon, security personnel chased them out of the ground but not before they managed to click a picture with the former India captain.Β

It is not the first time fans have shown their adulation towards Kohli. In an IPL match in 2018, a fan touched Kohli's feet before asking for a picture with the former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain.Β

Why don't cameras show us when a Kohli fan enters the stadium? Happened last year too, didn't come on TV.
When it happens with Dhoni, they make it a cute & fanboy moment by showing on TV time & again This Proves That @IPL is a Dhoni paid league pic.twitter.com/Z6Pn14J8Hm

Virat Kohli's fans took to Twitter to boast about the craze of the 33-year-old batter and hailed his generous attitude as he obliged to fans' requests on Sunday (March 13).

And he made sure nothing serious happens to them, asking the police officers and match officials to let the guys get away...
Don't know what's right and wrong here but it felt good that he gave selfies, after all fans are the MVP of this game#INDvSL#CricketTwitter #KingKohli https://t.co/Jlm5GtYPiM

Kohli, playing his 101st Test match, was supposed to play his landmark 100th match in the longest format of the game behind closed doors in Mohali. However, fans on Twitter demanded the BCCI to allow spectators inside the stadium and the Indian board obliged by allowing 50 per cent crowd.Β

For the Bengaluru Test, only 50 per cent capacity was allowed but days before the match, it was decided that 100 per cent crowd would be allowed.Β

On the opening day of the Bengaluru Test, Kohli was greeted by loud cheers from fans at a ground that is home to his IPL franchise RCB.Β Β

While it was heartening to see fans going overboard to show their adulation for a cricketer but in the current situation, it was not a wise thing to do as players are in a bio-secure bubble and it was not only a security breach but also a bubble breach.
