Shahid Kapoor Just Showed Every Indian Man The Perfect Shoe To Wear With A Bandhgala Suit
Scroll through galleries of any Indian wedding, and you'd spot the Bandhgala in almost every frame. One, because it's ethnic wear in Mood: Formal and two, it's Indian wear done absolutely right. Come turtlenecks with single-breasted suits or a blazer with track pants, the truth remains, the Bandhgala is irreplaceable. It's a vertical of menswear, which every groom, male wedding invitee and A-list showstoppers at prolific runway shows, would be always sporting through the course of years. Take for example, Shahid Kapoor at Anita Dongre's Summer/Resort showcase at Lakme Fashion Week last evening:

Closing the show for the commercially/editorially-hit designer Anita Dongre, Kapoor was clicked in a Bandhgala-Sherwani hybrid by our bugs recently. An appearance, that Dongre poetically described (on Instagram) as "Shahid Kapoor, the Anita Dongre groom singing songs of summer". While we're 100% down for the design maverick's caption game, but men, don't see this tune as a Spring/Summer reservation. It may be a hue that's better for Summer (white), but its neutrality is what makes it a Fall/Winter winner too.

But while Dongre could have dressed Shahid Kapoor in whatever way she pleases, there's something that makes her overall design aesthetic appeal to the masses β her continued forte in making her garments India-specific, styles for one (and all) and keeping things classic, yet very cultured. You may be a businessman from Chennai, a start-up king of Mumbai or even a street hip-hop dancer β if your girlfriend's family is insistent and wants wedlock ASAP, chances are, you'd turn to Anita Dongre's label for your big-day outfit.

But talking about the highlight here is Shahid's pair of brown, plain oxford shoes. Something, that every man who's sartorially-rich, can easily justify in his head. For the less-informed however, let's discuss this detail.
First off, as a pre-requisite, know that a Bandhgala suit is the most formal form of Indian menswear. Hence, as the rules go (how you can't wear leather sandals with a suit), you can't wear open footwear with a Bandhgala suit. It's simple and maintains the monotony of the nature of the outfit. But now, while you may say Mojris will do the trick here, we'd differ. A pair of black or brown dress shoes ideally would look their best in this ensemble.

And while Shahid's sporting a pair of oxfords here, if you wish, you could go for derby shoes or brogues instead. But keep the perforations on check. You don't want a UK 10 ruining your outfit for you.
