Euphoria Made Some Excellent Indi-Pop Back Then andamp These 10 Songs Will Make You Very Nostalgic

Palash Sen’s Euphoria was a rage back in the nineties and early 2000s. And why not, the band rocked the Indi-pop music scene with its refreshing desi rock, or as the genre came to be called, ‘Hindi rock’. Energetic peppy music, Palash Sen’s powerful vocals and aesthetically shot Bollywood-style videos that told a story of their own – the band was the shizz back in the day.

The fact that it was started by someone who had cleared the dreaded but most coveted AI-PMT (All-India Pre-Medical Test) was enough to send all Sharmaji ka betas into a collective gasp. Probably Sharmaji also pondered about sending his son for music classes instead of pre-medical coaching. Dr Palash Sen was the face of the band and its most valuable member.

But nevertheless, it was the Euphoria team that wove magic with its music and set fire to the music charts. The band had a brilliant lineup of talented musicians like Gussy Rikh, Ashwani Verma, guitarist Kalyan Baruah, keyboardist Vinayak Gupta, Debajyoti Bhaduri on bass, Hitesh Madan (who left the band along with Benjamine Pinto but not before making some excellent music), and many others.

Euphoria broke into the music scene with their hit album titled ‘Dhoom’ in 1998 and there was no looking back after that. One of the most popular bands of the time and the most sought-after for live concerts, Euphoria was the first band (along with Pakistan’s Junoon) to play at the UN headquarters.

One of the most endearing things about the band, besides their music, was their videos. Euphoria was responsible for launching many actress, including Vidya Balan, Rimi Sen, Indrani Dasgupta. ‘Dhoom Pichak Dhoom’, which was directed by filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar of ‘Parineeta’ fame, became a rage.

I could go on and on but I’ll just let the music talk for the band, this once. Here are some of the best songs by Euphoria that formed an indispensible part of our childhood.

There ain’t no one who hasn’t tried to sing along and match Palash Sen’s passionate vocals in this one.

Kabhi Aana Tu Meri Gali

The song that made Vidya Balan a household face. The hesitant love story blossoming in a Bengali neighbourhood hit us right in the feels.

Dhoom Pichak Dhoom  Ab Na Jaa

The most beautiful rendition of finding lost love.

Phir Dhoom

The song that had every neighbourhood Romeo’s singing ‘Kaise bhoolegi mera naam?’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ_nQq-hzec
