What makes a man different, you ask? The decisions he makes. The hearts he wins. The conventions he shatters. Prashant Mahto, who works as a civil engineer in Chattisgarh, just won hearts all over India with his one-of-its-kind wedding gift request. He requested guests coming to his wedding to get him old books as wedding gift and mentioned it on his invite.

Indian weddings have always been lavish affairs and expensive gifts in the form of cars and gold are showered upon the groom’s family, because that’s expected. Often, it is demanded. But Prashant set a great example when he asked his guests to gift him old books instead of expensive gifts. The old books are for donation to students coming from humble backgrounds. Prashant has been running an organization dedicated to providing education to poor kids for the past two years. With over 550 volunteers, his organization has helped around 850 school kids in Chattisgarh and distributed 50,000 books so far.

The millennial generation thinks differently from the previous one and it has proven so time and again. While weddings still continue to be extravagant, times are changing and the young gen is making it happen, one wedding at a time. Kudos to Prashant Mahto for taking this wonderful decision. We wish more people follow in his footsteps.
