Ever since trading his Tottenham Hotspur's whites for Manchester City's blue jersey, Kyle Walker has become a vital cog in Pep Guardiola's world class outfit. Proving his mettle in the flexible right-back position, the England footballer has improved as a player and already boasts of a Premier League title, won through City's historic run last season.
Continuing his fine form, the 28-year-old was among the scorers who recently annihilated Burton Albion in City's merciless 9-0 thrashing in the Carabao Cup. While City's rampant scoreline, in itself, garnered a lot of attention, Walker, too, grabbed the spotlight for his antics after the game.
Elated with his goal and performance of his teammates, the England international produced a tongue-in-cheek moment with a hilarious, but useless, post on Instagram. Sharing a picture of his goal against Burton, Walker claimed that he was better than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on the basis of some light-hearted stats.
The City star captioned the picture, "Goals in 2019: Walker - 1, Ronaldo - 0, Goals in Carabao Cup: Walker - 1, Messi - O, end of discussion?". In what seems to be nothing more than a joke, Walker claimed that since he has scored more goals than Ronaldo (nine days into 2019) and more goals than Messi in the Carabao Cup (a competition that the Argentine can't play in), he has reached a conclusion on who is the best player in the world.View this post on Instagram

Walker was trying to capitalise on the long-running argument among football fans who've been divided over the years on 'who is the best player in the world - Messi or Ronaldo?'. Both the mega stars have won the Ballon d'Or a record five times. But, their dominance at the prestigious honour was finally broken by Real Madrid's Luka Modric who became the first player, other than Ronaldo and Messi, since 2007 to win the Ballon d'Or.
Following his far-fetched comments, Walker will now be hoping to walk the talk when City return to Premier League action when they host resilient Wolves - a side that has held the defending champions to a 1-1 draw earlier this season. In terms of the title race, after losing some ground with back-to-back defeats, City produced a prolific performance to beat arch-rivals Liverpool that allowed them close the gap at the top to four points now.
