Back in 2013, when Neymar joined Barcelona, the world of football was busy contemplating the attacking threat he'd pose alongside Lionel Messi for the Catalan giants. A year later, the arrival of Luis Suarez at Camp Nou allowed Barcelona to boast of one of the deadliest attacking trios in club football.
What was soon labelled as 'MSN', the partnership between Messi, Neymar and Suarez allowed Barcelona to scale new heights as the Spanish giants went past one opponent after another, adding more silverware to their trophy cabinet. But, the iconic partnership came to an end in 2017 when Neymar decided to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a record 222-million-euro fee.
Since then, there has been a lot of speculation about Neymar's departure from the La Liga club. While some suggested that he was unhappy with the wages, others claimed that Neymar was tired of playing under the shadows of Barca talisman Messi. In fact, a few days ago, Neymar's father had to clarify that Messi had nothing to do with his son's exit from Barcelona.
Following in the footsteps of his father, Neymar, too, has come out praising Messi's influence during his stint at Barcelona. In an emotional interview with publication Globo Esporte, the Brazilian revealed how welcoming the Argentine was when he was finding his footing at Camp Nou.
"It's a story I tell everyone. At the time when I needed the most support, the man on the team, the best in the world, came and gave me love. Leo was a very special guy for me at Barcelona. He talked to me and said: '[When you] come here, you must be yourself, you must be happy and the same as in Santos. Do not be shy, do not be afraid of me or anyone in this club. We are here to help you'," Neymar revealed.
Following his departure from Barcelona, Neymar has gone on to form another deadly partnership with Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani at PSG. While he is currently nursing his injury, Neymar has proved to be a vital cog in the PSG set-up, scoring 48 goals in 53 appearances.
The 27-year-old is expected to make a comeback for PSG in the vital second-leg clash against Manchester United in the Round Of 16 tie of the ongoing Champions League on 7th March.
