Goa chief minister, Manohar Parrikar, breathed his last on Sunday after a long battle against pancreatic cancer. The former defence minister was 63 and had been getting treatment for the ailment since last year. According to reports, his health deteriorated in the past two days and on Saturday night, he was put on life-support system.

The Central Government even announced national mourning on Monday.

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan was one of the first ones among the fraternity to remember Parrikar, and offer his condolence to the late minister's grieving family. He wrote, "Manohar Parrikar CM of Goa passes away .. a gentle, soft-spoken simple minded person .. respected .. fought his illness with dignity and great spirit .. had on a few occasions spent some time with him .. a soft smile always adorned his face .. sad with the news .."
