What's the main purpose of a signboard, particularly the ones written in different languages and English? To guide people and help them figure their way out and to clear any confusion. At least that's what most signboards across the world ideally do, except the ones in India.
Here, you need to think twice before trusting your eyes each time you see a signboard and in case you're at the Chennai Airport, you need to be careful about your taste buds too. Why, you ask?
Well, because actress Shabana Azmi just came across a signboard at the airport that warned people not to eat the carpet.

Wait! Was eating carpet a thing? Why did nobody tell us? FYI, it's an old picture taken in 2015, depicting hilarious sign board fails where the message got lost in translation.
Azmi posted this picture on her Instagram account, where the sign reads, "Farsh par khaana sakht mana hai" that was translated to "Eating carpet strictly prohibited" in English.

In case you're wondering what's wrong (we know you won't, but to be clear), the correct translation would be, "eating on the floor is strictly prohibited" or "eating on carpet is strictly prohibited".
English truly is a funny language.
