Recently, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah talked at length about the ongoing nationwide protests against CAA, NRC and NPR in an interview with The Wire. Expressing his opinion, the actor spoke about the current state of the country, rising communalism, and the dead silence of B-town celebrities over this issue. 

Besides, the 69-year-old actor also particularly mentioned  actor Anupam Kher and his views on social media and called him a âclownâ. He also said he doesnât think âKher needs to be taken seriously.â

In the interview, he said, "I am not on Twitter. These people, the Twitterati, and I really wish they would make up their minds in what they believe in. Someone like Anupam Kher has been very vocal. I don't think, he needs to be taken seriously, he is a clown, any number of his contemporaries from NSD, NFTII can test to his psychopathic nature, it is in his blood, he can't help it.â

âThe others who are opposing it should really decide about what they want to say and don't remind us of our responsibilities, we have known our responsibilities,â he added. 

After the clip of the interview was made available online, it went viral on Twitter and the social media users started to bash Naseeruddin left, right and centre.

The ongoing issue of CAA, NPR and NRC has surely got unrest across several parts of the country and Naseeruddin thinks itâs actually a cause of worry.

In addition to that, he also appreciated actor Deepika Padukoneâs visit to JNU as many celebrities like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan among others chose to keep mum on the entire issue.

âItâs understandable why the established figures of the industry donât speak up. However, one wonders how much do they have to lose? Will it kill you? You have to laud the courage of a girl like Deepika (Padukone), who is at the top and yet takes a step like this,â said the actor.
