Powerful Thappad Trailer Shows Taapsee Saying Even A Single Slap Is Not Okay & Fans Are In Awe

Is violence in any relationship an expression of love? Well, Taapsee Pannu is here to tell us and the society that the answer is a big fat NO.

Taapseeâs upcoming movie Thappad is the story of a woman who decides to divorce her husband after he slaps her once. Focus here is on 'once'.

The makers have finally dropped the trailer and itâs a tight slap on the faces of people who think itâs acceptable if a man slaps his wife. Also a pertinent response to preachers of patriarchy.

The trailer begins with Taapsee in a meeting room with her lawyers who seem to be unable to fathom why she is seeking a divorce from her husband 'just over a single slap', an apparently trivial thing.

Well, it might be trivial for others but the makers of Thappad and Taapsee go on to show how it's not okay, and also how it's not acceptable just because you're 'in love'. Wow. Talk about giving it straight back to Kabir Singh, right?

The powerful trailer also gives us a sneak-peek into the married couple's happier times when all was well between them and they were living in apparent harmony. Taapsee is the perfect wife, taking care of her husband and their home until he loses his temper at a party and slaps her right in front of everyone.

This, eventually, opens her eyes to the unfair things in their relationship that she had been turning a blind eye to and simply sweeping under the rug.

The trailer also raises valid questions of how important a womanâs self-respect is and Taapsee has done a brilliant job in portraying her character, whoâs not ready to give in to age-old practices of giving in to the âadjust karna padta haiâ culture. '

Uss ek thappad se mujhe sab unfair cheeze dikhne lag gayi jisko main andheka karke move on kar rahi thiâ - This dialogue by Taapsee seals the deal.

Hereâs the trailer:

After watching the trailer, a barrage of emotions rushed through me, mostly anger, and I got goosebumps. Pretty sure I was not alone in feeling like that.

Meanwhile, people are flooding social media with praises for Taapsee and director Anubhav Sinha for choosing to raise their voice on such a debatable subject also agree that âeven a slap is not acceptableâ.

Some people were even of the view that itâs a slap on the makers of Shahid Kapoorâs Kabir Singh.

Here are the reactions:

"Thodi bahot maar-peet toh expression of love hi hai na" a slap on Kabir Singh and those who think it is OKAY for a husband to slap his wife. #ThappadTrailer @taapsee you are amazing & proud of you. Thank you @anubhavsinha for highlighting such an important issue.

In an earlier interview, Taapsee had said, âWorking with Anubhav sir is always an enriching experience and he encourages one to push the envelope. When he discussed Thappad, I immediately decided this was a film I had to do. It has a thought-provoking storyline and deals with a subject that must be addressed in our society. To put it in perspective, looking at what we aim to convey with our film, I can say Thappad is this yearâs Pink.â

The cast of Thappad also includes Ratna Pathak Shah, Manav Kaul, Dia Mirza, Tanvi Azmi, and Ram Kapoor.

Thappad, produced by Anubhav Sinha and Bhushan Kumar, and is scheduled to hit the screens on February 28.
