This Film Festival Promises 6 Unmissable Screenings & Kicks Off This Weekend In Delhi

If youâre in Delhi and looking to have an unforgettable weekend, thereâs a film festival brewing - with a rich and diverse selection of films from around the world.

Now in season two of its fourth edition, the Navrasa Duende World Movie Festival has focused on revisiting world cinema classics. Several timeless films have been honoured at their screenings, where film-lovers and newcomers have been treated to the very best of cinema alike, in a variety of languages and genres - with more than a few hidden gems to add to your watched-list.

Hereâs what the festival will screen this weekend, at the Siri Fort auditorium.

Day One: 8th February 2020 (Saturday)10:30 A.M. - Lawrence of Arabia (English)

The story of T.E. Lawrence, the English officer who successfully united and led the diverse, often warring, Arab tribes during World War I in order to fight the Turks.

03:30 P.M. - A Separation (Persian)

A married couple are faced with a difficult decision - to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimer's disease.

06:45 P.M. - The Conformist (Italian)

A weak-willed Italian man becomes a fascist flunky who goes abroad to arrange the assassination of his old teacher, now a political dissident.

Day Two: 9th February 2020 (Sunday)10:30 A.M. - 2001: A Space Odyssey (English)

After discovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, mankind sets off on a quest to find its origins with help from intelligent supercomputer H.A.L. 9000.

03:00 P.M. - In The Mood For Love (Cantonese)

Set in 1960âs Hong Kong, two neighbors, a woman and a man, form a strong bond after both suspect extramarital activities of their spouses. However, they agree to keep their bond platonic so as not to commit similar wrongs.

06:00 - Le Mepris (French)

Screenwriter Paul Javal's marriage to his wife Camille disintegrates during movie production as she spends time with the producer. Layered conflicts between art and business ensue.

The films are broadly selected through a surprisingly meticulous process. Divided into three ranges, Navrasa Duende chooses its films based on a scale weighing the artistic commitment of a film alongside its popular appeal - and the balance it strikes between those extremes.

âThe festival is a moment to celebrate art and global community,â shares festival founder Dinesh Singh with The Indian Express. âMore than ever, we need to talk to each other and understand how we see the world, and cinema is the best medium to engage without prejudice.â
